http://www.kriskris.com/how-many-calories-should-i-eat-a-day/

It says I need something like 2,000 calories a day! :-O

This goes against my 1200-1500 calories a day (with working out 3-5 times a week).

Should I eat more? The scale IS NOT moving...

I believe you would eventually lose weight, but not at a rate of 1lb - 2lb a week, which I'm assuming is what you've got MFP set to?

    Try this: http://www.health-calc.com/diet/energy-expenditure-advanced
    Then this: http://www.health-calc.com/diet/weight-loss-calculator

It will tell you how much you will lose if you were to eat 2000 cals a day.

If I go to that site, it says I should eat 1750 calories per day after inputting all my info there.

I can state that would make me put weight on because I have tried all that before.

Can't see your diary, so cannot comment. Often weightloss will not happen is an overestimation of calories burned and an underestimation of calories consumed is logged.

Be careful you don't log too many calories for your exercise, do you use a HRM?

Watch your logging for your food and drink too, many people often guess at possible calories in food and can be hundreds and hundreds out. Do you weigh your food?

If 2000 calories is your average calorie requirement from that website, I'm pretty sure that would be to maintain your weight.

Depending on your activity level determines how much you should eat. If you are like me and are doing little to no exercise, I would eat less than my TDEE which is the amount you should eat to maintain your weight.

So MFP I think has it set to your TDEE automatically and you just set the amount you want to lose in a week and it will take off 250 calories per 0.5lb for each day.

So your TDEE is 2000 calories, you would have to eat 1750 calories a day to lose half a pound a week.

Those links were awesome, thank you! It still says I should be eating 1500 calories a day...which I haven't been...I just feel gross when I eat lately. UGH! Time to eat more, I guess. The scale isn't moving one way or the other. I had some health issues a couple months ago (surgery) and it seems like all my systems are effed up.

    But thank you!

Yea, the site said I should be eating 2,500 calories a day to maintain and 2,000 a day to lose! WHAT?! LOL I am not that hungry...

I weigh my meats and have special spoons for serving...I don't over estimate my workouts, as when I plug them into MFP, I take a few calories off. lol.

I dunno,...just getting back into this after some health problems. Sucks.

:) Remember the health calc site includes your exercise, MFP doesn't so expects you to log and eat back your calories. I upped my calories a month after I started and I feel much better. I am still losing by eating more calories, but try (try being the operative word) to avoid too much sugar - that's the killer and it's hidden in everything!

Yes, I've been working on my sugar, now that I can consistently eat about 1,500mg of sodium a day. I am gluten-free for health issues so that makes it crazy too, but it's getting easier.

I'm 5' 6.5" when I hit 145 I decided it was time to learn how to eat for the long-haul and decided to go on maintenance for 140
--1. i figured it'd give me a little wiggle room to figure things out.
--2. If I did lose that last 5 lbs it'd be at the rate of lose .1 lb a week so it would take about 1 year, but I already be eating at maintenance..

MFP gave me 1600 cal to maintain 140lbs, but I was nervous about adding calories back so I set my target for 1550 calories
At 143 I've been hang on to maintenance by my fingernails.

This site tells me I ONLY get 1530 yikes!

  • Oh my goodness, that calculator says I'd need to be consuming 2,650 a day to lose two pounds a week. No way! There's no way I could eat that much! It's typically an effort to even hit 1600... I'm not that hungry of a person.
