I personally think anything can be drunk or eaten as long as it's in moderation. If it's something you crave, drink a glass or two, just not the entire container. As someone else mentioned, try the silk or soy chocolate milks. I personally don't drink milk. I do use almond breeze with 40 calories per 8 oz, or silk almond unweetened with 35 calories per 8 oz. They have chocolate versions of these. I'm not sure about the calorie content. Best of luck to you.0

Chocolate skim milk has been proven in studies to be one of the best recovery drinks after a weight training workout. The sugar is actually sent to the muscles to replenish glycogen after a workout and the protein is needed for repair of muscles. There was a study presented at the ACSM conference a few years ago about it and then one of my professors recreated the study at our school and it showed to be better then energy drinks or sports drinks for recovery. So, I say, go grab your chocolate milk if you enjoy it, but be sure you hit the weights before you drink it.

Just kidding yourself *sigh* I know eh. I love chocolate milk, but I only have it like once a month as a "treat". I treat it like ice cream or something.
Milk isn't really that good for you either. If I wanted "healthier" chocolate milk, I'd have chocolate soy milk.0 -
I chocolate milk. I drink it. I also drink white milk. It has protein. And potassium. Therefor it is good for you LOL.0

I take a half cup of chocolate almond milk & mix it in with a half cup of light vanilla soy. It's yummy!0

Milk is fantastic for you. And chocolate milk is perfectly balanced as a post-workout drink.0 -
One cup of Silk light chocolate soymilk is only 90 calories, has more calcium than milk and is just as good as Nestle's! I love it and plan on making choc soy ice milk with it this summer,, like I used to make with Nestle Quik.0

If you want it, drink it - at least you are getting some calcium with your sugar so it's probably a better choice than juice.
Just make sure you log the calories, but I think that it's probably a better treat than a bar of chocolate or an icecream.0 -
I found a coconut water drink that is chocolate flavored at Trader Joe's, it sound strange but it actually reminds me of chocolate milk and has lots of benefits.
It's an all-natural, premium coconut water loaded with 5 essential electrolytes and more potassium than a banana - with natural dark chocolate flavor for a delicious drink that’ll satisfy a thirst and a sweet craving. ZICO Chocolate contains only 110 calories per 14 oz serving, which is half the amount of your average chocolate bar with one-fourth the fat.
ZICO Chocolate also contains 30% less sugar than most flavored coconut waters and 60% less sugar and calories than leading chocolate milks, making it great for the whole family. Plus, it’s gluten-free, dairy-free and a good source of iron. Enjoy in a 14 oz bottle or mix in smoothies for an added treat.0 -
agree that it's great post-workout...I used to drink it after long runs (8-10 miles) - it does a better job than gatorade as a recovery drink!
I would have it as an occasional treat other than that, though - like eating a half a candy bar (treat) with a glass of milk (healthy!)0 -
There are plenty of websites that applaud the benefits of chocolate milk as a recovery drink. Most say "it has double the carbohydrate and protein content, perfect for replenishing tired muscles. Its high water content replaces fluids lost as sweat, preventing dehydration. Plus it packs a nutritional bonus of calcium, and includes just a little sodium and sugar -- additives that help recovering athletes retain water and regain energy."0

I love Carnation Breakfast Essentials - no sugar added chocolate milk powder. They make it in ready to drink cans and tubs of the powder, but I just buy the individual packets. One of those packets is 60 calories, 60mg sodium, 300mg potassium, 12g carbs, 4g fiber, 7g sugar, 5g protein, and 140% Vitamin C (plus about 25% of everything else). Add that to 1 cup (it still tastes good up to 16oz, though, and I usually do 1 1/2 cup) skim milk and you've got an "anytime" snack for 150 calories and a lot healthier than most chocolate milk.
There is probably something healthier out there, but that's what works for me (without tasting gross or not being chocolate-y enough).0 -
Thanks for all the replies. When I drink it, its usually after a work out. I buy a one cup container of 2%!0

Sometimes when Im at the drugstore, getting what ever we need, TP, coffee cream (for my bf), etc, I will start thinking. "Oh hey, lots of cheap pops/juices here, i should get one!" Then I think chocolate milk! Milks good for you right? Am I doing myself any favors, or just kidding myself?!0
