Regardless of your eating schedule you'll still want to learn to eat sensibly and count cals/macros. They are not mutually exclusive.0 -

The kid here (it's a personal joke between us) and I have had some long discussions about this lol. He's a good guy, and I'm not sure why he hates IF so much. It's clear by his results his methods work for him...but the same can be said of almost every man on this forum (man = apples to apples) who IFs.

I agree...this is a new comment from him. I'm sure he's basing it on self control etc. Everyone seems to think IF is some kind of trigger for eating disorders (whether binging or starving yourself)...when honestly, for everyone I've seen who has tried it, it literally divorces you from emotional eating. Food just doesn't have the control over you that it used to.
Understand, this isn't my personal experience...as I've never had an emotional connection to food, but many people do, and that experience has been relayed by each of them I've talked to about this.0 -
I am a new believer in it. Especially after my results. I wasnt able to get my cals in on the days I work. Now I dont worry about it. I love this. Its so easy and fits into my lifestyle0

Told you it was perfect for you. I don't push this towards people...not without being asked, but when you told me you were worried about how you were eating during work days...I couldn't help it. I work 8-10hrs a day myself, and rarely have time for lunch. With IF...I don't have to worry about it at all. And as you've seen yourself...it's a HUGE relief.
Eating enough, while trying to lose weight...is just as important as not overeating. This can help ease that burden.0 -

I definatelt endorse IF. However there is a psychological aspect associated with ED. Let me give a hypothetical. This does not entail all. Most who suffer from anorexia or bulimia have a difficult time controlling triggers. If someone is anorexic and they go 24 hours without eating then their brains revert back to old tapes. Feelings of worthlessness. Or see how good your doing because you didnt eat. An alcoholic cant just go have 1 beer. It creates the phenomenon of craving. Same thing happens in ED. Its an addiction and they stay away from things that create the phenomenon of craving0 -
The people on here who are telling you not to, or saying it won't help with weight loss, most likely haven't tried it at all. Intermittent fasting seems to be helpful in assisting with weight loss, and the reviews I've seen about it are positive. So if you're thinking about doing it, go for it.0

Not in my opinion...it's the MOST strict of the ones I've used. ESE is simple, you don't eat for a period of time, then eat. What you eat is only moderately relevant to the benefits. Leangains has a whole slew of conditions that you have to meet in order to utilize his protocol as he intended. He's said time and again it's not for weight loss (though it works for that). It's for people who are trying to do something very specific with their bodies, bulk, and cut...simultaneously.0 -

This is NOT starving yourself, anymore than 4-6 meals through the day is gluttony. It's changing how you eat. Not how much.

Interesting. I agree that there are alot of factors to consider and are very deep subjects. I dont think the forum is the place to discuss this however I would love to discuss this matter with you further since I have worked with this vast population and would love to hear your insight.0 -

Definitely, but to get the most out of it...it's a very strict protocol.Well in my mind i am comparing it to the warrior diet, 20hr fast, 4hr eating window. That's why i said that.
I've not looked into them much. I've had great results between leangains and ESE, so I never felt the need.0 -

I just starting doing a 16 hour fast with an 8 hour eating window and I LOVE it. I can't believe how easy it is. I would love to do 24 hour fasts but I am not sure I'm ready yet. I think you should try it out.0

* The majority of your daily calorie intake is consumed in the post-workout period. Depending on setup, this means that approximately 95-99% (fasted training), 80% (one pre-workout meal) or 60% (two pre-workout meals) of your daily calorie intake is consumed after training.
* The feeding window should be kept somewhat constant due to the hormonal entrainment of meal patterns. We tend to get hungry when we're used to eating and maintaining a regular pattern makes diet adherence easier. If you're used to breaking the fast at 12-2 PM and ending it at 8-10 PM, then try to maintain that pattern every day.
* On rest days, meal one should ideally be the largest meal, as opposed to training days where the post-workout meal is the largest meal. A good rule of thumb is to make meal one on rest days at least 35-40% of your daily calorie intake. This meal should be very high in protein; some of my clients consume more than 100 g of protein in this meal.

I am enjoying the results of IF. I am pleasantly surprised how after just the first few days, my hunger was not a problem at all. My fasted workouts are feeling great and I havnt seen any strength loss.
It makes the whole day easier not worrying about getting something ready to eat. Its nice to go out and not having to worry if I will be near a place to get some decent food.
But I agree that you should do your own research before jumping into it. Good luck0 -

i don't agree with the idea of fasting, and neither does my doctor. You need to eat food. Your body requires it. There is a reason why your stomach starts to hurt and grumble after mere hours of not eating. :grumble:0

Fasting isn't for everyone. However people that do IF still maintain a healthy caloric intake. It is another form of calorie cycling.0

I fast a lot for religious reasons. I feel like it is excellent for that purpose, and, as a bonus I have excellent digestion ;-)
BUT as I get older (have been doing this for 15 years) I notice that some fast days are really tough as far as dizziness and mental confusion. And when we do our annual series of multi-day fasts, I find that I actually GAIN weight, even if I eat very little during the eating part of the week. I think it messes up my metabolism. But the spiritual and self control benefits are worth it, so I do it anyway.0
