protein powder in oatmeal?

Why not? I mix mine in yogurt and add fruit, nuts, sometimes chocolate. My mom mixes it in her coffee as a creamer. Mixing it with milk or water? Way to boring.0

Actually, someone gave me the idea of pouring saw raw oatmeal into my protein shake. I do that every morning and blend it up. Sounds strange, but it's good.
I used do that and add some cooled down coffee. So good in the mornings0 -
You can add protein power to anything...it just can't be smoking hot liquid like coffee or it will curdle and turn into rubber....true story. Some are made for higher temps....the Cytosport from Costco does well with heat (I use it in my coffee daily). ON does not work well at all.......I use it as coffee creamer (delish!), I mix it in pancake batter, I add it to oatmeal.....and my very fav is plain greek yogurt. It tastes like cake batter.....add some fresh berries and a little granola and it is heaven. I also make fridge oats with greek yogurt, rolled oats, protein powder and berries....the liquid is soaked up in the oatmeal overnight which softens it.0

I cook plain oats in unsweetened chocolate almond milk, then add a half-scoop of chocolate protein powder once it's cooked. It is DELICIOUS.0

sounds good.0

I eat cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast every morning. I've tried peanut butter in it, that's good. I don't know about the protein powder, never tried it. I wouldn't heat the powder, if you do try it.0

It's a little strange at first but pretty good and definately better stats than the sugary packets of oatmeal! I use old fashioned oats and add a pure protien powder (about 2g of sugar) ...It's a great way to get that extra protein0

I do it when I eat oatmeal It is Vanilla Whey Protein and it is lovely. Makes the plain oatmeal go down easier0

It's one of the recipes for Insanity. so it must be ok0

I've been doing that for the longest time. it's good. I also like to mix canned pumpkin in my oatmeal, add some cinnamon, and it's delish.... along with some vanilla protein powder.0

In oatmeal or in cereal both are very good and a great way to get protein in the morning0
-
I love it! Especially with chocolate protein powder... Yummm! And frozen blueberries.0

I usually use a sugar free oatmeal and mix it with 1 scoop Designer whey french vanilla, and add in walnuts and a couple raisins or some kind of diced up fruit It's actually good.0
-
I do it daily. 1/3 C rolled oats, 2/3 C water, in the microwave for 90 secs, then stir in a scoop of protein powder.0

I cook mine first using almond milk, then add a scoop of vanilla protein powder once its done cooking. A little cinnamon and a touch of brown sugar, and it's great! One of these days,I'll add berries or walnuts.0

I make oat cakes with oatmeal and protein powder all the time. I'm actually planning to try to make some oatmeal protein muffins and freeze them for mornings where I need to grab something and go. I don't really like protein powder mixed in plain oatmeal, but I'm not a big oatmeal as cereal fan in general..0

I think you are not supposed to mix protein power in hot items because it denatures the protein.
While some powders may react poorly to heat, the denaturing of protein isn't a problem. Anytime a protein is exposed to heat, acid, or salt it gets denatured. If this negatively impacted the usefulness of the protein we'd have to eat all of our eggs raw and jerkey would be worthless. Denaturing is just the structure of the protein getting bent out of shape - not a problem since you are breaking it down into AA so that your body can use it.0 -
Good to know about the heat. I saw other people had posted about it and wasn't sure!0

I'm going to try this tomorrow in my oat bran made w/ unsweetened choco almond milk. 1 scoop of my chocolate protein powder and I'll see how it goes )0

I like to add some fruit, my favorite is a little bit of peaches diced up in the pot while its cooking. after it cooks i add 1 scoop vanilla protein. voila, thats all it takes and you wont even need sugar or any other sweetener!0

I have done this often. Well, as often as I have oatmeal for breakfast anyway. I have used both vanilla and strawberry, both turn out fairly good. I have never noticed a different texture as some have said. I also like to mix in a cup of Greek yogurt as well. This kicks up the protein level quite a bit and adds a good double hit of calcium as well. You may want to experiment with flavor combinations as I can see this being a fairly valid point. All flavors do not mix together well.
The worst that could happen is that you tried something new and weren't terribly fond of it. I don't think that will happen, having tried this myself.0 -
i tried this with steel cut oatmeal and it tasted like punishment. the texture was GROSS and i seemed like something some street urchin from a ****ens' novel would eat in an orphanage0

I have done this. I even add it to my homemade waffle/pancake mix. You can do all sorts for things with protein powder.0

So, I tried mixing the protein powder that I was using for shakes in prepared oatmeal and the mixture turned to a soupy liquid. Are some protein powders not suited for this?0

I just had the idea to put some protein powder in my oatmeal to up my protein intake for the day. Does it sound good or gross? Has anyone else done it before?
I make a protein shake with oatmeal.
2 servings Dark Chocolate Almond Milk
2 Servings of Whey
1/2 cup of dry oats
1tbsp Walnut Oil
couple dashes of Cinnamon0 -

The one recipie I have is something like
3 egg whites
2 servings of Whey
1/2 tsp baking powder
flavor with cinnamon and whatever you like.
You can obviously add oatmeal in it if you wanted too.0 -

I add hemp protein powder to my baked oatmeal. The first time, I used too much and it was a little gritty. Then I made it again with less, and it's great! (It does cause them to have a green tinge though!)0
