Thoughts on Soda.

I like an occasional diet Coke as a treat - maybe once a fortnight or so. Pepsi tastes far too sweet to me, and Dr Pepper? Bleurgh! Diet Lilt is good if you can find it.
Like many others I don't want to waste calories drinking them.0 -
It's not soda, it's pop. Y'all must be from the south. We drink our iced tea un-sweetened up here and put oil in our engines, not ole. I haven't been drinking very much pop lately. I used to like coke, but not pepsi.
Psh, you must be from that crazy state, Michigan. Us Wisconsinites call it soda. ; )
As for drinking soda, I don't normally. It just isn't as satisfying as it used to be. That being said, sometimes I do treat myself and get something every once in awhile. Just like any other food (and what someone else said earlier) everything in moderation.
I'm from Wisconsin, Everyone I know calls it Pop!
I quit drinking pop in December. I've had about 3 since then.. They have been Sprite Zero..0 -
Are you in America? Because in England, soda water is purely carbonated water, no sweeteners or other adittives I think, apart maybe from salt! I drink it with orange juice- makes it more refreshing and reduces the calories of the orange juice per quantity.
Sprite in England tastes SOO good (lemonade). Because it has real sugar!0 -
never touch them! do you know what sugar/salt and rubbish they put in there?:mad:0

I used to drink soft drinks all day long. I first switched from regular Coke to Sprite, then later the transition to water was easier. Soft drink free for 3 months now and don't miss them at all. If you give them up altogether, the flatter tummy will be worth it!
Diet soft drinks, flavored bottled water: I can't drink them because of the Phenylketonurics (Phenylalanine), which gives me horrible migraines.
If you can drink coffee but get the jitters from too much caffeine, try Folgers 1/2 Caff. I also drink decaff iced tea during the day. I use Stevia for sweetener. No headaches/migraines!
Sidenote: I have found that since I gave up soft drinks and use Stevia, that we have stopped consuming sugar in our house. I bought 2-4 lb. bags when they were on sale. Finally gave one to my sister and she will probably inherit the other one, too, because it is still sitting in the cabinet unopened.0 -
I definitely still drink a lot of soda (2+ cans a day), though i've slowly been trying to figure out whether i really care enough to cut it out, or if it's one of those things i want to make room for. My motive is mostly the caffeine content- a cup of coffee leaves me a jittery mess, but usually half a can of soda is just enough to perk me up when i get up or when i need a bit of a lift. it's something i'm a bit embarrassed about, and i've heard a million times that my weight loss will go much quicker if i just drop it out, but i like having that option there to perk up when i need to. Diet soda is absolutely no kind of replacement-- it tastes nothing at all like a good glass of HFCS and CO2. It just won't do at all for me. So, i suppose you're not alone at all.
It sounds like youre relying on soda for energy, you really should have a look at where you're getting energy from and why you might feel tired. Sugar gives you peaks and troughs of a boost, and will leave you worse off. Not trying to be preachy, just think if you need it for a boost you might want to consider a better source of energy. You might be deficient in something0 -

I drank A LOT of soda growing up, but my tastes have changed and these days I find it too sweet for my tastes. And the sweetness keeps it from really satisfying my thirst. But I do enjoy the taste once in a while, especially when I'm having it with a strongly flavored food.
I recently tried Zevia, a stevia-flavored, zero-calorie soda that discovered thanks to an ad here on MFP. I only tried the cola, but found it pretty tasty. I'll be trying the others, probably during the summer. Their Web address is http://www.zevia.com/
But, for the most part, I stick to water, a little Mio, and iced tea.0 -
I drink 8+ cups of water a day. I might have a Mexican Coca-Cola 1-2 times a week for a caffeine perk. I don't drink coffee.0
-
I gave up soda when I made this lifestyle change.. I'm going on 4 years soda free..0

Well..I've lived in 2 different states..Massachusetts, we called it Soda.
Now. I live in Michigan. Got used to calling it "Pop" After a while.
I still have both regular & diet..occasionally, I'll take a sip or 2 from Pepsi, whenever offered..and have a full glass/can..maybe every couple of weeks. I cut back on it drastically but have replaced it with coffee..which is just as bad..concidering I'll fill my 15oz mug 3-4 times daily with cream/sweetner. It's not too bad..though.0 -
I love soda, but it's worthless calories. I hate drinking my calories.0
-
I break down and drink regular soda once in a while. Sometimes I just need that to quench my thirst. I am trying to break the habit but it hasn't happened so far.0
-
I'd rather eat my calories than drink them, unless we're talking about beer. I just don't really care for cokes that much, although occasionally a Dr. Pepper hits the spot...and by occasionally I mean maybe once a year.0
-
I usually drink water.....sometimes I have soda.....when I do I log it.0
-
I only drink water.0
-
i don't drink reg soda because its empty calories. i mostly drink water, and one or two cups of coffee per day. about once every two weeks i might have a diet soda.0
-
I do, one coke per day, but I am finding that I want less and less, but I also drink about 12 glasses of water per day0

I first started losing weight when I dropped cokes, so I don't drink them anymore except on rare occasions. I have been enjoying the occasional frufru soda's made from sparkling water/juice/sugar. But not too many, once every week or two.0 -
The pop/soda thing is too funny. I'm in Canada so everyone calls its pop, except my 5 year old, who calls it soda.0
-
Giving up the need to have flavor in my beverages is a huge part of why I lost 40lbs. I drink water and occasionally seltzer pretty exclusively.0
-
i drink reg soda! never diet! diet may be better in cals but NOT on weight loss! diet is even worst. i drink reg in moderation0
-
I drank diet coke for years, and ate anything I wanted. I craved sugary junk.....and when I stopped I have alot less sugar cravings!!0
-
I only drink diet pop, I don't like to drink my calories, I prefer to eat them, plus I have diabetes so regular is off limits, but either way gotta watch the sodium. And pop/soda all the same thing who cares what it's called.0
-
I've been off soda since I was in high school. I worked at a gas station and got free pop whenever I wanted.. Then I heard they yellow your teeth. So I quit them for good LOL0

Search Youtube for - Sugar: The bitter truth.
Watch it.
Then research what the acids do to your digestive system.
Then never drink a soda again.
Definition of a poison in the body- anything that must be passed through the liver for metabolization.
100% of High Fructose Corn must be processed by the liver. 100% of HFCS after metabolized becomes fat cells. HFCS is the main ingredient in soda.
So...Soda = Poison. Pretty much as bad for your liver as alcohol, and even worse for other functions of the body.
I have no idea where you got that definition from as your liver is probably one of the most active organs in your body in respect to oxidizing triglyceride, synthesizing lipoproteins, synthesizing cholesterol and phospholipids and a great many other metabolic functions.
Personally I don't drink soft drinks and try to avoid products containing high fructose corn syrup but your assertion is based on a faulty premise.0 -
In eastern PA I grew up on pop. Now that I live in western PA I drink some diet soda, but try to limit my intake tomostly water with lemon. No reg soda pop or even fruit juice for that matter. I once was borderline diabetic and now keep a close watch on those sugar calories0
-
I have regular pop (usually some kind of cola) about once a week or less. I like it, but I think it's a waste of money and calories, so mainly stick with water and coffee. I will not drink diet... that's some nasty stuff!0
-
I wish I didn't want to drink Pepsi regular lol0
-
Very occasionally I will drink a reg ginger ale or Mountain Dew. Otherwise I totally avoid soda altogether0
