Did you know that i am terrified of mascots? have been since i was a baby..0 -
Did you ever find out why you are?0
-
not a clue.... i think it has to do with not being able to see their reactions.... im usually a pretty good judge of character and can read most people pretty easily... maybe thats why... maybe it stems from my OCD or need to try to control everything....?
who knows.. i just avoid them0 -
Does anyone know what causes claustrophobia?0

Can you believe I used to be one?
The local roller rink always had one of the members of the advanced skating club dress up as "Brown Bear" for the kids on Saturday morning... can't you just imagine me inside the Brown Bear costume? :laugh:0 -
Like Smokey the Bear? I remember someone would dress up like him for fire safety awareness when I was a kid.0

Did you know i was horribly clausterphobic when i was pregnant? remember almost fainting on a bus once.
Now the only time i get clausterphobic is if im cuddling with someone and i cant get "cold air" lol i get a little panicky0 -
Do you know how nice it is to know I'm not alone in this?
I am not fond of crowded elevators, or being on there for very long...
I have to have a little cold air too when cuddling...
I'm not fond of crowds, or lines...
It's not often that I feel like I can't breath, but it has happened. Mostly, I just get extremely anxious....some people are very understanding, others, not so much.0 -
i was told my fear of not having air or what ever it is stems from almost drowning as a child.
Do you have any idea where your fear stems from?0 -
Does anyone know what causes claustrophobia?
e.g people who react to confined spaces and have no history of conditioned response (an event in early life such as being stuck or locked in a constricting space [?as a punishment, for example] or otherwise confined against their will.) have sometimes been found to have a smaller amygdala than average.
or
It is also a potentially useful survival response that may be overdeveloped in some people.
What triggers claustrophobia is an alternative interpretation of your question - a feeling of helplessness, loss of control - it does not have to be in a confined space, it is the anxiety of being unable to escape, so could be a queue for a supermarket check-out or a bank teller.
Could it be a bit like the difference between things getting us down (a bit) and 'clinical depression'?
i.e. Do we all get such feelings from time to time but sometimes people are unable to cope and the feelings get control of the person rather than vice versa?0 -

No, I don't. Have you ever heard of someone being hypnotized to find out?
I've been told that as a small child I was locked in a room, but I do not remember it. A family member told me about it.
It is sad to say, but there are many parts of my childhood that have been "blocked" from my memory. It is quite ironic how some pictures bring some of them back and other pictures just make me angry and I don't even know why.0 -
Can you believe that 20 years ago I went on father-son Scout camp and they had an assault course which included a horizontal plastic drain-pipe one inch wider diameter than me buried in a mound of earth that none of the other fathers would go through - so I crawled through it without it occuring to me that I might get stuck? They all had to do it after that, of course.
I still sometimes wake up in a sweat after dreaming about getting trapped. Can you imagine anyone grown up and apparently intelligent enough to have graduated from university being SO STUPID?0 -
Can you imagine my horror at discovering the prices of book based on Edmund Burke's speeches?
Why don't Kindle have free downloads of these classics?0 -
Do you know that sounds more adventureous than stupid to me?
How much was the book?0 -
I think a big chunk comes from the need to control everything, i feel like i need to have control of everything in my life... im slowly learning to let go, i used to cry everytime i rode my horse because i was terrified of failing and terrified that i couldnt do it.
Seems kinda silly putting it in text though dont you think?
im quite curious on the cost of the book as well..?0 -
MJ, would you believe I was thinking the same thing? I read and reread what he wrote and was seriously putting thought into it. It is not easy to admit having a problem with control. After all, isn't that what brought us here?0

great minds think alike? :laugh:0

How astonished am I to find a whole load of stuff on free download on Amazon.com and the US price is the same in dollars as the UK price in pounds - ranging from the $0.00 to $50 but mostly under $10. Can I emigrate?
Would be interested in Thomas Paine for $0.00 too?
Can you believe that if Edmund Burke had had his way you'd all be drinking tax-free tea and probably still swearing allegiance to The Queen and speaking English as she is spoke ( - or perhaps not?) ?
Good night - thankyou for having me?0 -
Will you have a wonderful night? You're welcome!0
-
Is it a miracle that Amazon.uk seem to have found that free stuff - or at least own up to it now that Amazon.com has snitched on them - but the £:$ differential is still one to one?0
-
Good morning!! How is everyone today?0
-
good morning
im ok, found out my sons daycare (hes 4) taught them where to hide and stuff should a bad guy come into daycare. my son tends to let his imagination run away with the whole bad guy thing and asks a lot of questions and gets a little scared.
I dont know how to feel about it i mean its great that they are teaching it but i think it just bugs me that 4 year olds have to be taught something like that...
Am i crazy? a lady i work with was PUMPED her daughter was taught that....0 -
Can I agree that is it crazy that our babies HAVE to be taught that?
BUT
Wouldn't you rather him know what to do, than to not know?0 -
would you believe thats why im so conflicted?
Im glad he knows... and it should make me feel better that he knows... but hes 4 what happened to not having a care in the world at 4?
