I hate weight watchers for doing this to the planet.

YES. *goes off to shout obscenities*

*Joins in the shouting of obscenities*

I don't think that WW's method of not counting fruit is necessarily optimal, but when you consider that most people who are taking full advantage of that "loophole" are replacing things that are even MORE calorie-dense and nutritionally-scant with fruit, it's actually not a completely horrible tactic.

Personally, I prefer the demystified math of counting calories combined with learning about the advantages of the various macros and why I need a certain amount of each.

But for someone who can't stay away from the sugars, switching some of them over to fruit sugars isn't a horrible thing. Fruits usually come with a nutrition load, some fiber to temper the impact of the sugars on the bloodstream, satisfy a sweet tooth for fewer calories than most products that contain more processed sugars, and by and large satisfy hunger quickly in proportion to their calories.

Is going gung-ho on sugary fruit a great idea? Hell, no.

Is it a good way to discourage someone from having an apple turnover and instead eating a couple of apples? Hells to the YES.
