Wow! What great information on this post! I've always had issues with trying to figure out what I should eat at as well. MFP has me at 1200.

So from what I gather, if my BMR is 1574 (sedentary, thru fat2fit) and my TDEE is 1593 I should be eating between 1574 and 1593? Plus eat back my workout calories? The TDEE is what MFP has me.

    Thanks!
Your TDEE has to be higher than that if your BMR is 1574 - the smallest common multiplier is 1.2, so at least 1888.

Interesting. I just used fitness frog and my TDEE there is 1595 and you are correct my BMR is at 1329 on fitness frog. So still eat at 1888 and do I eat back my workouts? I should mention that I also use fitbit and it's linked to MFP. There is always an adjustment at the end of the day. Thanks for the info! Really appreciate it. :flowerforyou:

Glad I'm not the only one confused. Every darn website will give you different amounts. Some eat back the calories and some don't...

All of these TDEE calculators account for exercise in their calculations so you don't eat the calories back. On MFP the system is different - they have you eating less to start with, but you're supposed to eat back the exercise calories (which is why it's a calorie GOAL and not a calore MAXIMUM).

OK so here goes...My Fitness Pal has me at 1200 calories. even with exercising 5 days a week. 3 days are circuit training with weights on my home gym. The other 2 are usually walking, bike rides, or running. Currently 34, 158 pounds and goal weight is 130 pounds.

    My BMR is 1483.
TDE for normal exercise is x1.2=1779
TDE for heavy exercise is x1.9=2817

It was suggested to eat 30% below my TDE for losing weight. This would make my numbers now:
    normal exercise=1533
    heavy exercise 1972

    Does this sound right now?

People, there is an easier way.

    1. Ignore online calculators.
    2. Eat normally for two weeks, but diligently track your calorie intake and body weight.
    3. Total up all your calories during that time period.
    4. If you lost weight, add pounds lost x 3500 to the calorie total. If you gain weight subtract pounds lost x3500 from the total.
    5. Divide the total by the number of days (14 in this case).
    6. The resulting number is your TDEE. Eat 500 calories less than your TDEE everyday to lose 1lb per week.

MFP has me at 1510 but my TDEE worked out at 2219 a day. I eat between 1450-1600 a day and that works well for me at the minute.

How much exercise are you doing weekly? Roughly in hours. You should have a consistent amount. Also I would not do a 30% cut; that's drastic and most do a 15-20%. Start with 15% and if not happy there increase to 20%.

I exercise about 5 days a week usually. 35 minutes of circuit training on my home gym for 3 days. The other 2 days might be jogging, walking, or swimming for an hour.

    I'm pretty consistent with this.

UGH...I totally screwed up. The top number 1533 is with NO exercise.
The bottom number of 1972 is with exercise. 1972 sounds like a lot to me, but it is a 30% cut.

Have you checked out the Eat More to Weigh Less group here on MFP? This is also a good calculator. http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

Scooby Calculator is great! I agree with this.
