I used to make the oat part (Oats, greek yogurt and almond milk) and then use it as the base of my smoothie each morning. Made it nice and thick and healthy!
What portions of each please! This sounds delish!

Cold oatmeal... sounds interesting; maybe I'll try it some day.

For those who prefer hot oatmeal...

Another great way to prepare your breakfast in advance is to put one part old-fashioned oats (1/3 cup) and any dry add-ins you like into a wide-mouthed vacuum jar (e.g. Thermos), then when ready, add 2 parts (2/3 cup) boiling water, close tightly and shake vigorously a few times. After 20 minutes, the oatmeal is ready to eat. I have tried steel cut oats, but you really have to shake it for a much longer time to prevent clumping.

I prepare the dry ingredients the night before, add the boiling water while getting ready for work in the morning, and let it "cook" during my commute; then I have a nice hearty breakfast all ready to eat when I get into the office.

For add-ins, I like dried cranberries, whatever chopped nuts I have on hand, cinnamon, nutmeg, and even a little allspice or ginger, if I feel so inclined that day. I also like to add a teaspoon of vanilla when I add the boiling water (that is if I remember; my mind isn't always so sharp in the morning). I also like to mix in some ground flax seed, but when I do, I either increase the water a bit or decrease the oatmeal to maintain the right consistency.
    SO SMART!!!

I saw the skinnytaste recipe on Monday and had to try it out. It's really good, and I've been eating it all week. I'll have to try the pina colada recipe. That looks really good!

    My variation:
    1/4 cup quick oats
    1/2 cup almond milks
    1/2 tbsp chia seeds
    1/4 chopped banana
1/8 cup nuts (pecans or walnuts)
    1/8 cup dates

  • Raspberry Vanilla Refrigerator Oatmeal (Found on Pintrest)
    Ingredients
    • 1/4 cup uncooked old fashioned oats
    • 1/3 cup skim milk
    • 1/4 cup low-fat Greek yogurt
    • 1-1/2 teaspoons dried chia seeds
    • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 tablespoon raspberry jam, preserves, or spread
    • 1/4 to 1/3 cup raspberries (cut each berry in half), or enough to fill jar

    Directions
In a half pint (1 cup) jar, add oats, milk, yogurt, chia seeds, and raspberry jam. Put lid on jar and shake until well combined. Remove lid, add raspberries and stir until mixed throughout. Return lid to jar and refrigerate overnight or as long as 2-3 days. Eat chilled.

I love these!! I've made so many combos of these it would be too much to list. Some of my favorites are (using base of oats Greek yogurt and milk , I like almond milk). Peaches and blueberries w/vanilla and agave, love banana and you name it blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, peaches, nuts, peanut butter the list could keep going. Anyway I usually put a little applesauce(seems to take the bitter from yogurt.). I found 1 mason jar really keeps me full for a ong time. Would love to hear if anyone has done a savory version?
  • Has anyone tried adding these ingredients to a protein shake? Just curious if not I will be the test subject???

I love putting oats into my protein shakes, it adds a great flavor and makes it really filling. I just put it in dry.

Peaches in it sounds soooo good! Unfortunately I'm allergic to raw ones :( Maybe I'll try canned....
