Can sushi be included in a healthy diet?

I don't get anything fried or with cream cheese.
Sometimes If they aren't in a bad mood they'll make me brown rice sushi ( lol )
I usually get shrimp and avocado
and crab and avocado
It usually come's to 300 calories with a pretty good amount of protein and fat.
I don't add soy sauce or anything.
Sometimes wasabi though.
Is it ok to indulge in sushi once and awhile? ( usually 3 time's a month )

Unless you have an aversion, try sashimi.
Otherwise yes, sushi is fine, though the white rice is meh; its a simple carb and a waste of calories.
Start eating salmon, tuna, yellowtail, snapper etc
Tuna and Salmon specifically are considered super foods; they are protein rich, packed with omega 3s, salmon gives you *kitten* loads of potassium etc. You should be getting most of your fat intake from things like the aforementioned fish, along with avocado, almonds, cashews etc.0 -
Sure, why not? I love salmon rolls and tuna rolls, regular or spicy. I always use soy sauce, and ginger, and wasabi.

I'm always surprised at how low calorie sushi is - you can eat a bunch of tuna sashimi and egg nigiri and only come to about 300-400 calories for lunch, it's awesome. I don't see why you can't consider it healthy eating?0

I ended up getting 10 pieces of avocado and crab sushi for 280 calories0

If I could afford it and avoid huge levels of mercury in my body, I would eat it five times a week!0

I love sushi, which is a good thing since I'm currently living in Japan. They aren't big on the brown rice but make up for it by super fresh fish and eel. The chefs cut up an entire Hamachi as you sit and watch and pick rolls from the conveyor belt. So much variety, all yummy!0

Is is actually really good for you and is loaded with protein. ITs too bad I hate it. Dam0

YOU HATE SUSHI :noway:0 -
I love sushi, but in rural southern Minnesota it's impossible to find.
My hubby travels for IBM to Japan several times per year and hates sushi. I don't understand it. He's even taken to the sushi train by his male IBM coworkers. The sushi train is a strip joint in Tokyo that serves sushi on a conveyor belt while the dancers "dance". LOL I was actually hoping he'd take me there when I went to Tokyo with him because I was dying of curiosity how it's done. He didn't take me. His coworkers took him after work, but I was left to fend for myself in the hotel dining room (( Hmphf!0 -

You'd have to have access to really fresh seafood, which I doubt is available in rural southern MN.0 -
Sushi is great, fish is one of the best things for you. If you are eating sushi you should always include at least a small amount of wasabi especially with anything raw as it helps kill any parasites that could be in the fish.0

I eat sushi at least once a week.......................................for the past 35 years. Healthier than many 20 year olds.

LOL. Nope. Lutefisk is actually cooked and it's gross. My dad eats it on Syttende Mai and my grandparents used to eat it often. I could only stomach it when it was soaked in butter or raspberry jelly. LOL0 -
Yes!!! And it's so delicious. Eat up!!0

I need to know, because I'd rather eat healthier. How on -earth- do you make brown rice taste good? I also have a hard time cooking it! It comes out weird. :P0 -
I love sushi ( no soy sauce or wasabi), but I can't take the sodium anymore so I don't have it anymore.0

I love sushi. I don't think there's anything wrong with eating a rainbow roll (my fav)! Who CARES about the rice! You're getting seaweed, tuna, salmon, snapper, and usually some other sort of fish, avocado, crab, and cucumber.
YUM!0 -

except that most average places don't serve real wasabi. its horseradish ground and flavored and colored. whatevs, love it!!0 -

Buy a rice cooker and set it to "brown rice." It takes longer to cook and cooks better under the pressure of a real rice cooker. Also, you can cook it in other liquids like low sodium chicken broth and teas like barley tea which give it a slightly sweeter flavor.0 -
Teehee you've just reminded me I have a sushi kit in my cupboard. Hmmm that may be a weekend task0
-
I eat sushi 2-3 (or more) times a month. They usually run me less than 500 calories for a full sushi combo.0
-
i eat it prolly once a month. love it. i usually get the smoked salmon roll (with cream cheese and avocado) and its not that bad for you. i dont have any trouble fitting it into my 1300 cal goal. if im having a really good day i will get some with the sauce and chrunchies. i can still make that fit in my cal range if im having a really good day. i see no reason why you shouldnt have it.0
