I eat more than most men on here! Sheesh! LOL!

This isn't really a complaint, a rant, or anything... it's an eye-opening observation for me, really. I've friended a few males on here and when I look through their diaries, they're set to a calorie intake that is MUCH lower than mine! And I'm not exactly the biggest person on earth! LOL! Am I just a pig, or is it just easier for men to eat at such a huge deficit? I set myself to 1600 since I'm really just trying to stay on maintenance, but even guys twice my size set theirs to even lower (like 1400 or so!)

Any other ladies outeat guys on here? What about you gentleman, anyone eating more than 2000 calories to lose weight? I thought that was normal for men!?

LOL ... let me go oink now.... :drinker:

My MFP settings is 1600 calories a day & I'm only 5'2, 120lbs & a size 2. On workout days, I eat close or more than 2,000 calories depending on days because I do calorie cycling.

    When I don't workout, I eat 1700 atleast.

On weeks when I know i'll be training hard, I up my calories to upto 2500.

Some men might be reducing their calories to 1400 because they want to lose weight a bit fast. Hopefully they eat better once they're at maintenance

MFP set my default to 1200... I'm 5"2 and started @ 140 lbs, I found it too low, so I regularly go over (with 7 lbs lost so far :)))). I'm thinkin' the guys you've friended are not logging things, or are just under eating :P

1600 is incredibly low for a man but maybe they are really big and depending mostly on fat stores? I was eating really low calories at first even though I'm taller and larger than most men but since I've gotten close to normal weight range, I just can't eat like that any more.

    I need food!

My MFP is set to 1580 and i'm 5'1'' and a size 4. I work out a lot, so today for instance i ran, strength trained and did yoga and consumed 1987 calories. I've been able to maintain my weight for over a year now with a minor slip up over christmas, but i was back to normal in 4 weeks.

I eat more than my hubby... from what I know... Of course, he eats a lot of junk, candy, high fatty foods, so his calorie intake is usually higher than mine. But the amount of food taken in is less...

Unfortunately, I think there are far too many people on here that are not eating enough.

Before exercise, with breastfeeding, I'm at 2370 calories a day, and exercise usually bumps that up to around 3000+.

Ahhhh, it's nice knowing you ladies are out there. For men, I thought it is easier to lose weight since men just naturally don't have as much body fat as women do, so it makes me wonder why such a huge deficit? No, I'm no expert, but, just sayin'

My base to maintain is at just under 1700, and with the exercise I do each day, I end up eating anything up to 2600 calories. I am 5'10, 125/126Ibs and a size 2. I also come across guys who seem to drink most of their calories in the form of shakes and alcohol, rather than getting them from actual food.

2300 is my recommended calories here, and dropping about 3-5 lbs a week on average. I don't track my exercise calories since I only do 10 minutes of trackable warm up and then go for the heavy metal.

It's nothing for me to hit up Wendy's for a spicy chicken sandwich and chili cheese fries for lunch, and I usually am under my limit for the day.

I eat 1500 cals a day and I don't eat back my exercise calories. I lose about 4 lbs a week. Yes it is hard to have that much of a deficit.

Lol love this post. Ate over 2000 today and can usually manage that maintaining when I move allot. I have seen full grown men eating under 1200. The thought is terrifying. My bf keeps mentioning how I keep out eating him, and he is much taller and larger then me.

Im at 1750 and I never eat that many I usually workout hard and it allows nets me 3000 or so. It doesnt matter how little the number is if you workout hard. Only eat when hungry though. Dont rely so much on this counter. It will frustrate you.

I have been as low as 1600, but now at 2200 a day. When I was keeping my diet tight I could survive on as low as 1200 per day (LOTS of salad & veg, lean meats and not a lot else), but over 2000 is way more fun and a lot more sustainable.

No the counter frustrated YOU. I don't find it frustrating at all. I find it informative and empowering.

Im so confused about this...my nutritionist said my limit was 1450 EVEN when working out. I'm not a marathon runner but I usually work out doing elliptical or walking/jogging for at least 30-40 mins. Maybe i'm just not working out enough...but i notice when I do eat 1600 I am gaining (like i have been) I only lost when I was working out and eating under 1400 ..what do you all think?

I've set mine to 2300. If I were to stick with this, and eat back exercise calories, I'd gradually lose weight ... about a pound every 2 weeks or so. But I don't stick to it simply because I don't want to lose weight. So I cheat on Saturdays! When I was losing weight, I had set my calories to 1900 (plus exercise). Though the math doesn't add up, I was losing over a pound each week this way.
