I eat 1700 base calories a day and up to another 300 exercise calories unless I've gone nuts on the treadmill that day. So I have a pretty good number of days between 1,700 and 2,000 calories, and a few 2,200s, and a few less than 1700 (but not too many). My Dr. approves, and the weight is coming off, so I'm sticking with it until it stops working.0

I'm a woman. My average TDEE is 2600. I'm set to 1800 to lose weight but generally eat around 2000. Lost at 2000 net last summer.
Yes, I agree that it's weird to see men trying for so low. Muscle loss should be more of a concern...0 -
I try to stick to my 1200 a day plus exercise calories and when I was using the calories from the database I was eating a lot more. since getting a HRM I found I am onlu burning half what the database said so I get to eat a lot less. That being said, without that I would be eating more than all the men. I am a hungry girl :huh:0

MFP tells me to eat 2000 a day but I am 6'40
-
I have my goal set at 1800 net. MFP has me at 1460 calories for maintenance, but I was very slowly losing weight. I upped it first to 1600, then 1800.0

I eat more than my husband. He probably eats under 1000 calories a day. He looks like a cotton swab. Big head, little body...too skinny if you ask me, but he won't up his calories to fit his demanding physical job. I do find that I have more energy than he does though. He lies around watching tv and reading everyday and I find myself non-stop until its time for bed.0

I'm not a guy - and I'm eating a bit over 2000 cals/day and still losing weight!
I lost lots of weight last year eating 1500 - 1600 NET calories (ie. 1500 or 1600 plus exercise cals so that was anywhere between 1500 - 2300 total, average probably about 1800).
Now I'm working on losing the last few kgs very slowly, really more maintenance so I'm eating a flat 2000- 2100 or so each day (exercise already included) and have surprised myself by dropping weight faster that I thought I would at this amount.
1200 calories is for the birds!0 -
I have been eating any where over 2500 to as high as 5000 calories a day (depending on my work out days and I work out a lot). so yeah try eating 5000 calories in a day, and not junk food either its a challenge.0

I tried to lose at 1800/day but never did. I eat 1550/day, and try not to go over that even when I exercise. It's the only way I can drop. Everyone is different, but my body loves to keep the weight on.
I'm 5`10" and at 195lb right now.0 -
It looks like everybody has a different metabolism. Mine is set at 1200 and I am definitely not fit like you are. I think that since you are a runner you are able to eat that much. Anyone who does lots of cardio can have a higher amount of calorie intake. When I was in good shape I was able to eat more and burn it off. Running in my opinion is that fastest way to lose weight. I use to be a runner but after getting tendonitis I stopped.0

Im at 1750 and I never eat that many I usually workout hard and it allows nets me 3000 or so. It doesnt matter how little the number is if you workout hard. Only eat when hungry though. Dont rely so much on this counter. It will frustrate you.
No the counter frustrated YOU. I don't find it frustrating at all. I find it informative and empowering.0 -
I eat more than my hubby... from what I know... Of course, he eats a lot of junk, candy, high fatty foods, so his calorie intake is usually higher than mine. But the amount of food taken in is less... :happy:0

Im so confused about this...my nutritionist said my limit was 1450 EVEN when working out. I'm not a marathon runner but I usually work out doing elliptical or walking/jogging for at least 30-40 mins. Maybe i'm just not working out enough...but i notice when I do eat 1600 I am gaining (like i have been) I only lost when I was working out and eating under 1400 ..what do you all think?0

I NET like 1450, but I eat like 2000-2300 total per day and I am losing weight. I food. On rest days, I calorie spike and eat over NET so I still eat like 1900 calories.0

I don't usually run. I just circuit train with weights and use a heart rate monitor to make sure my calorie counts are accurate.0 -
This isn't really a complaint, a rant, or anything... it's an eye-opening observation for me, really. I've friended a few males on here and when I look through their diaries, they're set to a calorie intake that is MUCH lower than mine! And I'm not exactly the biggest person on earth! LOL! Am I just a pig, or is it just easier for men to eat at such a huge deficit? I set myself to 1600 since I'm really just trying to stay on maintenance, but even guys twice my size set theirs to even lower (like 1400 or so!)
Any other ladies outeat guys on here? What about you gentleman, anyone eating more than 2000 calories to lose weight? I thought that was normal for men!?
LOL ... let me go oink now.... :drinker:
It's because you're on maintenance and they're losing, so they're subtracting 1000 calories or more per day from their maintenance amount. If you were to do that, you'd be at 600 calories. They'll be eating you under the table at goal.0 -

I know, but I've been losing while staying at 1600. I created a small food deficit (100 to 200 cals less), or a bigger one through exercise. I would never eat 600 cals a day. I'm only 4'10" 103 pounds, so I am in no rush to lose tons of weight each week. Slow and steady fat loss is my goal, really.
Anyway, I am just in awe that guys can sustain on such HUGE deficits!0
