FORGET counting calories!

I think that as long as you are eating the right foods, you don't need to count calories. Humans, like all animals, wont overeat, or undereat, in their natural environments. As long as you are eating the whole natural foods that humans have been eating for thousands of years, your body will count calories naturally. The only reason people need to consciously count is when they eat artificially concentrated foods not found in our natural environment.

We don't live in our natural environment.
The urban areas of the United States for the 2010 Census contain 249,253,271 people, representing 80.7% of the population, and rural areas contain 59,492,276 people, or 19.3% of the population.
Our natural environment would be considered the wild, not in cities.0 -

Totally this.
Its not normal to have to count calories to lose or maintain weight and you won't put on weight if you eat a healthy balanced diet, excersise and don't overeat. Yes, it certainly does work for people who need to lose weight but many people have an unhealthy relationship with food which leads to overeating in the first place. Avoid using processed foods as a crutch and you won't need to count calories.
P.S - I count myself as one of the people with an unhealthy relationship with food by the way. Calorie counting helps me learn the energy value of food and the importance of keeping my diet healthy and full of whole foods. It is definately helping me not think about chocolate as much as I used to.0 -

Is it "normal" to live in concrete buildings? Drive cars and fly in airplanes? Cook food? Build and launch space probes? Exchange goods and services through a monetary system? Use a computer? Cure diseases and treat sicknesses?
It's also not "normal" (whatever that even means) to use science to determine what's best for us, so I guess we should ditch that too.0 -

It sounds like you are using calorie tracking as an excuse for binge eating. I suspect you have probable had issues with binge eating long before you ever found this site or tracked one ounce of food. I would recommend you find out what is actually triggering it and try to work on that. And keep tracking your food.0

Also interested in learning what these unprocessed foods you are speaking of are... I would bet it would be very difficult to eat them in the amount needed to gain weight on but happy to be proven wrong.0 -

Very difficult to eat grapes, tasty ripe bananas, avocados and nuts? These items are specifically recommended to people who wish to increase their calorie intake "healthily" without necessarily chowing down a ton of food.0 -

Coconuts, potato, avocado, almonds, peanuts,
OK, hands up those of you who got fat by eating coconuts, potatos, avocados, almonds, peanuts, bananas, grapes, steak, nuts and seeds or any other unprocessed food alone?
Be honest now. No eating of cake, ice cream, bread, McDonalds etc etc at the same time of course.0 -
