Honestly I have to do abs almost every day to get a 6-pack and keep it. Your abs (I swear) are one of the hardest muscles to maintain let alone get. Patience is the key to getting and maintaining your 6-pack. It took me about a solid 2 months to get them. ( Don't have them anymore right now because I slacked) :(

2 months? That's fast. I thought it would take at least a year.

Mine took about 2-3 months. You can see them in my pics. They aren't 100% defined, but they're there.

Just a couple months after I got serious.. but you have to be "close" because of course I had to lose my fat first.. which took about 2 years. This year, I kicked into high gear and really focused on what I put in my body.. I work abs 1-2 a week but still "tighten" em almost every workout.. by that I try and do some plank movements while "resting" between sets...

Depends on how much fat one has on one's mid-section. Some people, even though at a relatively low weight have more fat stored there naturally, so it takes extra-strict dietary measures(very low carb and fat) and bumping up the cardio to get it off. Then other people have a relatively lean waist but store their weight on their hips and thighs - they're the ones who often say they don't do all that much for their tummy(because it's already close to six-pack)but bemoan the fact that their lower half is not budging. That said, when I was at a low weight and getting ready for a small bodybuilding competition, 2 weeks. But that was with being wa-ay stricter with diet than for regular weight loss. It would take longer now for sure because I'm 10 pounds heavier than I was then and 2" bigger around the waist. It would take losing at least 2" or more around the waist to get that six-pack back. However, even with extra weight on me that I mentioned, my waist is tighter than it was a couple of years ago due to the fact that I do Pilates mat class and hoop dance.

    A six-pack of milk bottles?

Sorry lol. I have no hope of ever getting a six-pack, but I enjoy everyone else's. :D

Totally agree with this statement. I spent a year dropping body fat. I didn't really focus on much else besides trumming down my fat. Once I hit that, I started lifting hard and working abs. I also only do abs 1-2 times per week, but incorporate them often in my workouts.

I have to agree with body fat statements by everyone. I have ways to go still since I'm one of the unlucky people that gains weight in the waist first lol.

Reducing carbs and fat is the best way to cut down on fat or calories in general?

When I trimmed down my body fat, I ate low cal, low fat, and high protein. I also did loads of cardio. Some people have trouble with carbs, my hubs being one. For me, I need my carbs. Lots of steamed veggies, chicken, and fish was pretty much what is on my menus (not as of the past 2 weeks! Vacation!! )

As far as I know.. your six pack is not so much based on excercise but on the fat in your body...
So it is mostly diet related.. the time it would take it would vary for everyone...

So I agree about the fork comment.. is all about eating/not eating..

I used to have trouble with carbs until I trained my body to feel full on protein (I still have some carbs daily from grains or bread). Problem with that meats usually come with fat lol

So, based on all the comments this hold true: at least 80% of your fitness is diet!

That's what my husband says too. And what a lot of others day, you have to lose that fat. Sure, I'm where I want to be weight wise, but still need to burn some more fat off the belly. It's really my only main problem area. It's going to take me a long time. I will admit, I'm not as committed to getting them as I could be. My diet isn't exactly perfect to get a six pack! Maybe one day, right now, just working on the jiggly in my belly. :-)

    LMAO.

Still working on the 6 pack. But it took about 1.5 months for me to start from no definition to some definitions on my abs.

Carbs don't only come from grains!

I tend to stay away from "proccessed" foods.. At least limit them.

I eat a lot of chicken and veggies (carbs!) and eggs.. staples of my diet.. but I do lots of different things with em. Veggies are the best thing to help fill you up and help you stay full especially paired with protein..

When I was really cutting, and I felt hungry, I would heat up or stir-fry a cup or two of veggies and I was satisfied. (best part it was under 100 cals!)

    This,

But I am starting to see a real difference. I am trying to limit my "grain" carbs as much as possible, but let me tell you veggies and starches have alot of carbs too! Lots of fiber to...ahem.." clean you out" is helpful cause I gotta say its WAY worse when I am bloated. Sugar is a culprit too.

Getting a six pack is a huge challenge, but it isn't impossible. Just gotta work hard and be patient...then once you have them... well don't slow down because as hard as it is to get them, it's even harder to keep em.
