    In no certain order:

    Shawshank Redemption
    Garden State
    Anchorman

But I have to tell you, it's hard to pick just three.

    1. Dirty Dancing
    2. Death Proof
    3. The Sixth Sense (I like movies with that surreal, sad, almost hopeless feeling mixed with a bit of social commentary...Signs, Blindness, and I love horror films even though I can't sleep alone for a week after I watch a really scary one)

The Shining would probably have a top spot on my list, but it's so scary I can't even watch promos for it if I'm alone even though I've seen it several times in the past.

Loved Click. It has all the qualities of my fave movies...sad, surreal, social commentary...all that's missing is the horror.
  • That's what I like about it, too, brendalee. I liked how the consequences of his choices were so immediate. It reminded me how easy it is for life to pass us by and twenty years later, we wonder "how did I get here?" Plus, I think too many Hollywood movies have no real moral, and this one definitely did: the choices you make today effect who you will be tomorrow.

#3 makes me sad for my childhood- Watching NL Christmas Vacation was the last time my whole family sat down together and had a truly carefree laugh all together....

    1. The Count of Monte Cristo (the remake)
    2. The Green Mile
    3. Moulin Rouge

I love movies that elicit a lot of emotion, but not the chick flick type. I always cry for the entire last third of The Green Mile.
  • Queen of the Damned
    The 13th Warrior
    Boondock Saints

Not sure if these are my top three favorites. You know how there are some movies that if you're flipping through the channels, no matter where the movie is, you'll stop on that channel and finish watching the movie? That would be these 3.

Fav snack which I'm no longer allowed to have: Peanut Butter M&Ms

I always had issues with the blanket party part of FMJ.

what, you felt left outta the party?

p.s. the Vietnam half of FMJ is way under-rated. Its got some funny stuff. Its even more funny when you've actually been to combat.

lol... you don't feel sorry for him? I mean he's crying... he's a grown man and he's crying.

Maybe the first time. Well nah...not really. But now whenI watch it...I know what he becomes and thats the CLIMAX of the movie! What he eats a jelly donut and then blows away Drill Instructor Hartman? That'd be f'n lame.

    plus Vincent D'Onofrio...awesome

um, grown men do cry...not like a bunch of girls, but it happens. if something comes close enough to their heart, anyone will break down and cry.

    just sayin...

FMJ - I CANT HEAR YOU!

i'm not gonna lie, on my 2nd day at basic training I practically broke down on my "one phonecall home" when my parents answered.. I hadn't slept in 72 hours. I got smoked so bad I couldn't even knock out another push up. And somehow I got dimed out as the platoon "thief". It was a bad week, hahahaha.
But I never got a blanket party, thankfully.

    There's Something About Mary
Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail
    Ella Enchanted

    "Bring out your dead"

I loved this movie. My Western Civilization professor in college would bring up this movie often but I was the only one in the class that had seen it.

    1. The Lord of the RIngs Trilogy

Beyond that I would have to break them up by genre.

Well, I just had to chime in to bring some sanity to this thread.

I didn't see ANY of the Godfather films on this list, which makes me sad, but I'll put up

The Godfather part 2 ("I knew it was you Fredo!")

Dune (the original, uncut version, OUTSTANDING screenplay, followed the book almost to a T, and Sting as the Harkonnen Fayde Rautha, just perfect! Gotta read the book first though, or you'll be lost.)

This was a tough one, there are so many, but I wanted to put in a comedy, and of course my favorite comedy of all time, some of the best lines anywhere was...of course...

Spaceballs! (ok ok, Life of Bryan came close, as did Monte Python's The Holy Grail and Shawn of the Dead, but you gotta give it to Mel Brooks, he kicks *kitten* with his one liners).

    favorite Spaceballs quotes:
"She's gone from suck to blow!"
    "Funny, she doesn't look druish!"
    "They've gone plaid!"
"I bet she gives great helmet"
"I'm a Mog. Half man, half dog, I'm my own best friend!"

    Also ran movies:

    The usual suspects
    The 300
    The Program
    Jurassic Park
    The Dark Knight
Major League (back when Charlie Sheen was cool!)
    Hot Shots (see Major League)
The Breakfast Club (Before Jud Nelson became a douche!)
    Ben Hur
