I'm almost always well over on protein but under on carbs using MFPs default settings which are fine for me. My doctor (who uses MFP as well) told me to treat the protein "goal" as a minimum (so it's fine to go over - within reason) and treat the others as maximums (stay under on carbs and fat).

You are absoltuely fine. a 57g protein goal is not that much. I average about 130g/day. If you were up in the mid to high 100's, then maybe I'd say cut it back. But only 57g, you are golden.

according to your home page you lost 51 pounds which I am sure took some time and by looking at your diary you are over on protein almost everyday. Why are you asking this question now?

I typically consume at least 1g of protein per lb of body weight. So I average about 130-150g per day. The default settings on MFP have protein set way too low and carbs set way too high, IMO.

I have found that MFP sets the protein way low for people who work out a lot! I don't even bother to watch my protein anymore! I have done research and there really is no down fall of having "too much protein" as long as its lean protein!

I am diabetic, and have had metabolic consulting with an MD specialist in weight loss for people with metabolic syndrome. I also see a registered nutritionist and am under a doctor's care. Based on this and with the blessings of all three professionals, I adjusted my targets to 35 % carbs and 30 % protein. For diabetics, it's very important to have protein every time we consume food, to slow digestion and improve sugar metabolism.

This is a very personal issue, and the specific target amounts need to be adjusted for each person, but you may find that you need more or less protein or carbohydrate to lose weight and/or support your muscles. Lean protein like some of the enriched eggs (Eggland's Best, for instance), low sodium turkey breast, fish, beans and nuts are REALLY good for you and will not torpedo your weight loss. Just stay within your calorie target.

What are you eating, do tell! I would love to get even close to my protein goal, this is something I really struggle with.

Today is just 2 egg whites, 1 egg, string cheese and yogurt. Oh and also having some turkey on my sandwich for lunch!

??? I am so puzzled, how does that make you over your protein for the day? Did you change your protein settings to be at like 10% protein or something? Please understand, I'm not trying to be snarky or rude, it's just that I eat way more protein than that every day (you can check my diary) and I still never hit my protein goal...

Wow!! Thank you so much for your responses, they are so helpful and def makes sense!!

I'm thinking I'm going to raise it to 100 and see how that goes, I just didn't know if that was "bad" or not!!
I've been trying to pay attention to sodium and carb intake but just happened to notice my protein today!!

    Thanks again :)

2.Intestinal irritation. Too much protein has been linked to constipation, diarrhea and/or excessive gas.

This is what I was going to say, but that's only for some people and only if you are eating a lot of protein...like at least 100g per day. Sounds like you are using MFP standard guidelines, which are quite low for protein.

my weight loss was at a stand still and i didnt know why, i was under calories. turns out i was consuming huge amounts of protein. I wasnt loosing due to my excess protein consumption, and i know this because as soon as i lessened my protein i started losing again.

Thank you for your opinion... I've kind of thought so!

Honestly... I just recently started to pay attention to any of the numbers besides the cals! lol

I'm a simple person, being under cals was hard enough!! I'm starting to consider all things now, hoping this will continue to help me learn more about how different foods affect my body and my weight loss. Does that make sense??

Is this enough?? Too little?? Too much?? That was basically my question :)
    Thanks!!

If you workout frequently then its nearly impossible to go over your protein I am a 5'1" 134 lb female and try to eat at least 130g of protein a day. many people make the mistake of not eating enough protein. Protein is key when you are trying to lose weight. Of course you have to stay in your calorie range but fresh healthy cooked meat should not jack your calorie intake up that much. Its the sugars and the carbs that you need to keep an eye on. fats as well.

in addition you should be eating a little more then your goal weight in grams of protein per day so say 140lb then at least 140g of protein a day.
