If a bear squats in the woods, does his spotter wear hotpants?
If it's Bear Grylls? I would totally spot him in hotpants. Rawr.

    Suede hotpants, actually.

I'm sorry, they're velour actually. Please get your facts straight.

The bear won't let me get close enough to touch 'em. Bast*rd

I used to hate squats, body weight ones as well. Now I merely tolerate them, but I am putting a lot of weight onto them now. What I find amazing is how far I have come in a short period of time in terms of what I can do. It keeps me motivated to do more and keep improving.

Sometimes Deadlifts are the answer. But usually it's squats.

lmfao, when I read the title I was gonna come in and post "No, but DEADLIFTS are!".

If you arent deadlifting OR squatting, you're not lifting. Especially you guys out there, get on it.
love squats and the results

    lovin those results too!

    I did deadlift squats today.
  • Squats are my favorite. :D Well, I would much rather do dead lifts but I won't complain about either.

I'm really proud of my ability to go ATG with squats.
  • Squats below parallel is the answer. I'm sick of seeing people not even getting parallel at all.

Hoping I could get my squat to 315lbs for 5 reps, which would be really awesome!
    Currently at 275lbs for 5 reps @ 150lbs bdwt

There is simply no other exercise, and certainly no machine, that produces the level of central nervous system activity, improved balance and coordination, skeletal loading and bone density enhancement, muscular stimulation and growth, connective tissue stress and strength, psychological demand and toughness, and overall systemic conditioning than the correctly performed full squat. --Mark Rippetoe

This is what sold me on them. Seriously.

    But...
    Deadlifts > squats ;)

I'm sorry Taso. She's substantially hotter than you are, and so must know something you don't.

    That means she wins.

Why on earth does what anyone else does sicken you? My injury convalescence involves squats down to as far as does not aggravate my abductor. I still get SOME squat benefits so if we're ever in the same gym you will just have to look away or prepare to be sickened!

having the bar across my shoulders like that, even nif it's padded HURT. I do not squat. My legs are strong...so if I use dumbells to squat I practically pull my arms out their sockets!! I"m a lunge/deadlift girl.

Try hold the dumbbells at your side and squatting.. it helps.

    To OP:
Yea deadlifts are fine.. except for when I do them and then subsequently have creepy *kitten* meatheads staring at me as I do them.

Squats get me noticed less... which is fine by me!

I quite like Bulgarian squats. Adds a little something else to challenging your balance.

Squats, lunges and deadlifts are best.

I'd be much more comfortable with squats if not for creepo's looking at me in the gym.

If the bar hurts, there is a form issue. http://stronglifts.com/squat-bar-position/

    Lol, true.

I think this was more a question on form because said meathead was then discussing my form with his buddy... but nothing was being said to me about it, so I assume I was doing them right. I also saw said meathead do it the way I was doing it, instead of his way which was just bending at the waist with the bar down to about his knees and then coming back up.
