Good morning, my friends!
Hope you all had a good weekend!
Today I am super busy (I always say that, but today I am really going to try to accomplish all I mean to). I was suppose to go walking with a friend this morning but she got sick. I still plan to walk because it's going to be gorgeous (windy though) today.
Here are my goals:
log food
go for a walk (aiming for 3.5 miles)
push ups (week 3 again. not ready to move on)
clean clean clean (you'd think my house would be spotless by now)
work/play with Alex
I guess that's it for now. I need to get to work, so I can have more play time later!
Happy Monday!

Busy day here, for all the bad reasons.

I have to sing at a funeral this am, for half of a couple that just celebrated it 60th wedding anniversary.:brokenheart: I made the comment last night that if you get to your 60th wedding anniversary, your reward should be that you get to die together in your sleep. sigh.

After that, it's probably lunch, followed by either the gym for one of my new "hot bod in a box" :noway: circuits and working on my project or vice versa. It's a dreadful autumn storm dreary day, complete with gale force wind predictions.

Boxing update: my abs and arms are sore. I can't remember getting this deep, "I did something" soreness for a while without having to be bored to death with weight training.

    That's sad, V.

One weather place says next weekend will have highs in the low 80s, the other says high 80s. Hope the first one is correct. I get tired of being hot all the time. I even considered pushing the a/c lower (it's at 78) at night because I usually have two hot water bottles (cats). It will be here soon enough, I'm sure. We are getting into the good bike riding weather though. As long as the wind doesn't go crazy, long bike rides are fun.

Today, I may give the bike legs a break and primarily walk on the treadmill. I do need to drop some stuff at the post office (so bike) and will bike to yoga.

Just off hand - for those with kittehs, which is all of you, try the pledge pet hair pick up thing. I used it on all my curtains, and it worked great.

the good weather begins and the good weather ends, boogaloo!

ps. Nestle had a great blog on calories on Sept 25, entitled Should recipes include nutrition info?: http://www.foodpolitics.com/

Sorry about the sad news, V. At least they had 60 years together - that's awesome.

Interesting blog, Mary. I will definitely try the pledge pet hair thingy - I was wondering if it would work better than the annoying yellow sponge-thing I have. And WOOO-HOOOO about your kitty eating!

I did not work out at all this weekend. Ugh. Way to go on getting back to week 3, MM - I am thinking I may take the week off from pushups because my chest is still bothering me. It's annoying because I will probably lose ground, but I think I keep re-injuring myself.

Tonight is belly dance with my new hip wrap (V, do you know what those are called? the ones covered in little coins?). I really need a new plan (I know, you've heard me say that five times over the last few months and I still haven't done it).

    Monday boogaloo.

all I ever heard them called was "hip scarves". Enjoy it, it will make shimmying way more fun. I have one a friend brought me from Cairo that was the loudest one in the room. It was awesome. Word of advice: odds are your cat (s) will fear it. My cats despise both hip scarves and finger cymbals.

Off to do a circuit boogaloo!:flowerforyou:

I actually wore it once over the weekend - it woke up one of my cats, but she was very interested and followed me down the stairs while I was wearing it. I have a feeling she wants to bat at all the little coins. It was fun to wear it while dancing, although we had a substitute teacher so class overall wasn't quite as fun. And now I am afraid that it is something I am doing in belly dancing that is making my chest sore, rather than (or in addition to) pushups. Probably chest circles. I definitely feel more sore this morning!

It's a stormy fall day. I kind of enjoy it. I even wore a sweater! Which was nice outside, but now I am regretting it a little - my office is hot today. I haven't been running in over a week, so that is the plan for tonight. And I need to have a productive day at work - I feel like I didn't do anything that I really needed to yesterday. Sigh! Project management and time management are not my strengths.

I hope you all are doing well. Boogaloo off to work...

Quick post! I'm about to head out the door.
We're going to tumbling this morning, and then we are going to walk at the park close to there. I will try to walk it three times which is three miles (or 2.7 to be exact so I might walk a little extra). I already got a lot of cleaning done this morning. I still have some more chores to do when we get back.
Then I will have time to goof off this afternoon.
Had dessert last night and DH is not feeling so good now. Too much whipped cream for him (he ate his and then mine). So we didn't sleep that great last night.
Okay, I'm outta here. Have a great day!

The rain got in my way yesterday and took away some biking. Looks like it might do the same today. So either gym or walking today.

Went in for blood work this morning (for a physical, I don't think anything has changed, but they called me and said it was time). I hate fasting. Throws off my day, and I get a slight caffeine headache from not having coffee right away. Pretty pathetic actually - I think about people who don't have enough to eat and I get bent out of shape from fasting for a couple hours.

    Coffee is a comin', boogaloo!

So, I've discovered the cruelest words in the English language (for today) are "work to failure". I did one of the JM circuits from my new flashcards and I did tricep dips, followed by tricep overhead extensions to failure. Also, pushups to failure. I have the jelly arms typing right now.

But, working out this hard is a total stress reducer. What I realized about a lot of what I do (ie: autopilot on the elliptical) is "thinking time". . .I work out my to-do lists, my meal plans, my problems, etc, instead of emptying my brain and giving it a rest. The thinking time has its uses, but I need less of it, not more.

Today, I have actual thinking time scheduled (writing an appendix for my paper and marking essay drafts for my students) some shopping and some other errands. Then, it's my evening spin class.

    Work to failure boogaloo:flowerforyou:

So I typed out my vent, and I felt a little tiny bit better (Okay not really) so I decided to erase it. It's not relevant to exercise or healthy eating. Although, now I want to mope and eat chocolate. lol
Alex had a "traumatic" experience in tumbling, so our walk didn't happen and he's in his room screaming now. It wasn't even a big deal! No other child would have gotten upset over it! UGH!
I think he stressed out the cat because she just puked on the floor. It wasn't over anything, so that must be it.
I am going to get a lunch together and go to the park. It is a gorgeous day, so that's what we're going to do. Alex can just deal with it. I'll get my walk in that way.
Then he can nap and I can enjoy the silence.

One of the things I really like about those long bike rides - complete freedom to eat and eat and eat. And I get to eat things I really like - granola & trail mix during the ride and pasta before and after. It's not that I don't allow myself those things normally, but I get to eat them in total excess. Another thing I like, about both yoga and biking, is the sense of freedom that comes - especially on the long rides.

Yesterday had the most beautiful weather in the afternoon - it really was spectacular - the kind of day your sorry to go back in the house. So I put in an extra bike ride. One hour at gym, one hour bike ride.

    Today - bike and yoga.

    Find your freedom, boogaloo!

I have not been as excited about a scheduled day off in a long time!

I have DOMS pretty much everywhere in my chest, back, arms and legs. That circuit workout on Monday (maybe on top of the boxing) really worked me out. What's weird is that only toward the end of the 30 minute circuit did I really feel the "I can't go on. . ." moment. So, that's good.

Spinning was tough last night. Just the tiny amount of work that it gives my arms (we spent a lot of time of the seat in a flat back over the handlebars position) was torture.

So, today is a day off. I'm going to the opera tonight! I'm going by myself (this is cooler than it sounds) so I'm hoping that I get swept up and forget all my troubles. I woke up early (for me) so I've already put in time on my project. Next up: meal planning and a mani/pedi. I broke one of my big toenails really far down last night in spinning (I seem to do this all the time. . .it gets caught in the shoe, and it's already pretty beat up from all the walking/jogging/jumping around it does) so I have to see what is salvageable there. Two summers ago, I lost it completely.

    Whoops. Novella boogaloo!:flowerforyou:

Mary, yesterday was one of those "sorry to go back in the house" days for us too. It was gorgeous! We had a good lunch at the park, and I got my walk in!
Today is a day off, though I need to get my push ups in. The house is clean for the mot part. I still have a few areas I need to work on that are catch alls. It's been really nice to get all my cleaning done in the first part of the morning (with the exception of a few things) and have the rest of the day to do fun stuff! Why didn't I do this a long time ago?
Horse riding today, visiting with my friend, and then my sister in law is coming to pick up her computer and I hope bring some clothes for Alex. He only has a couple pairs of pants, some shirts and a light jacket.
    Yee-haw boogaloo!

My jeans, which were just washed and dried, are gaping about an extra inch around the waist. Which supports the inch loss from my measurements earlier this week.

    My joy, it is enormous.

    That is all.

Congrats, V, on the jeans. I think I will be there with you on DOMS tomorrow - I had a great workout yesterday. I decided to try out a boot camp class at the gym. But I had time to kill before it started, so I went up to the treadmill to see if I could still run an 8 minute mile (7.5 mph). And I did!!!!! With a 1/4 mile walking and 1/4 mile jogging (5.5mph) on either side. I was proud that I could do it (and do it without feeling nauseous by the end). And, the boot camp class was pretty good - a full body circuit with some cardio thrown in. Like a 30-minute shred over 60 minutes, I guess. It felt good to be able to do full pushups when most of the class was on their knees, but I definitely was feeling weaker on some of the leg and shoulder exercises. I think I will go again.

Today I worked late and didn't get much done. Then I came home and watched SYTYCD and Glee - what can I say? So, tomorrow, barring too much soreness (I know it's coming), probably Zumba. Now off to try and get some more work-related thinking in (sigh) before I crash. I think I'll feel a lot more free once I get this project off my back...

    Visualize success boogaloo. :flowerforyou:

    Enormous joy should be shared.

I finally get to clean kitty's room while she's at the vet today. Haven't vacuumed in there in a month (did sweep, but didn't want to stress her with the vacuum).

I thought this was strange: when we had to tube feed Janis, we somehow came up with the 2.5 hours a day to do it. Now that she's eating on her own, that time has vanished - though I still spend time with her.
I think time and money are pliable that way - you live within your means - whether you make 25,000 or 90,000 - and you can't think how you did it before. Harder to go down, but you adjust. Same with time. I don't see how people have children and hold down a job - I only work part-time, no kids, and I feel like there aren't enough hours.

So, we have rain predicted all weekend - normally ok, but this disturbs the biking thing, so hopefully we'll have a few hour break in the rain - though they mentioned that some spots could get 10 inches. Fall monsoon. Also, it's ACL (Austin City Limits music festival) - which is infamous for bad weather - I think one year it hit 105, one year was a dust bowl, looks like this one may be an electrical hazard. I've never been, but it's a huge event here, second only to SXSW.

oh, today: hard yoga and treadmill?

    Chatty today, boogaloo.

I don't see how people have children and hold down a job - I only work part-time, no kids, and I feel like there aren't enough hours.

I hear you on both of those. The most valuable thing I've ever done is figure out how many hours I actually have in a day and what I accomplish during them, after sleeping, eating and exercising. Still, I don't know how the full time job/parent people do it. Although, in undergrad, I held down three jobs and went to school full time. I think I've spent my thirties catching up on naps from that.

Today was supposed to be noon Bikram, but I've slept too late for that. So, I'm planning an elliptical trip later in the day, followed by some time on the mat for stretching. Still a bit sore from Monday's adventure. . .apparently I don't use my pectoral muscles for anything else. (or they're so strong that I can push them pretty hard). Then, I have some drafts to evaluate for my students, and depending on how long that takes, work on my own project.

    Hello.
V, congrats on your success! I need something like that to happen for me. I think we all do. So I will share in your celebration.
Sorry if I'm not making sense. lol. AF came 4 days early! Maybe that means my body is finally starting to regulate again? The only other time she came on day 28 of my cycle was during the five months between my first miscarriage and getting pregnant with Alex. Every month, on the 28th day, at 10am. I wish it was like that all the time. Maybe now it will be? She's still beating me up though. :grumble: Day 2 is a laying around-watching movies kind of day.
I didn't get my push ups done yesterday. Don't know if I will make it today either. I'll see if I'm feeling better later.
So another unplanned day off for me.
    Resting up boogaloo.

Weird, MM - mine came about 6 days early. :noway: I was shocked.

Well, I stayed up late to work, then got up early to go to work, and am still at work now (although I'm about to leave). I didn't bring my workout clothes, so no Zumba for me. I did get a walk in, and I'll do some DDR at home. Chest is STILL sore, so I am holding off from any more pushups. My massage therapist gave me some pectoral muscle stretches to do so I am trying to remember to do those at least once a day. Apparently, when you spend a lot of time at a desk (particularly at the computer), you tend to slump your shoulders forward - which everybody knows. But, what I didn't know is that this causes your back muscles to get overextended or overstretched, and, conversely, your pectoral muscles get shortened. So then you slouch more, etc. Frequent stretching of the pecs can supposedly help to counter this (along with sitting up straight, of course). But, most people don't really use their pectoral muscles very much, so they're easy to overlook.

    The more you know...

Mary, it's true - somehow having "extra" time never quite turns into "free" time for me. My husband always accuses me of allowing any project to expand to occupy the number of hours available until it absolutely, positively has to be done - I never get anything done early, because if I still have time, I'll find a way to keep tweaking or researching or perfecting until I run out of time.

    Extra chatty boogaloo! :embarassed:

I guess I am falling behind...what is DDR?

I've been a total lay butt today. I haven't felt horrible, just gross. DH said he wants to go for a walk tonight so that will help. Farm town is working again so I've been busy.
I will at least put laundry away and do the dishes.

I ended up hiding in the house and doing my new JM dvd today. Oh my. . .I was dying. Sweating (dripping into a puddle on my mat) and praying for plank position to end. The calorie burn was pretty good (350 in 45 minutes) but not crazy high. But, muscle-wise. . .very challenging workout.

Mostly I liked it because it's almost no jumping around, so I can do it while the shop is open downstairs (during the day, when I'm most likely to work out).

Hi MM! DDR is Dance Dance Revolution - a dance video game that you play with a floor mat that has arrows that you step on. It has a "workout mode" where it will just play one song right after another. Some songs are way too hard for me, others are a little easier. I don't burn as many calories doing as I do running, but it is more fun - I figured if I am drenched after 30 minutes, it's at least worth something! I was really tired last night (because I only slept about 4 hours), so I only promised myself to do 25 minutes - but then I ended up doing 45 instead.

350 calories in 45 minutes is pretty good! Especially if there's a lot of a strength work.

Other than a walk, I'm not sure if I'm going to get in a workout. I'll bring my clothes with me and will go to the gym if I'm not stuck too late at work. It seems like 3 cardio workouts per week plus belly dancing should be doable.

    Gotta go boogaloo!

Thanks for clearing that up for me CP. I think my brothers may have that. Maybe if I get brave enough I'll try it some time.
Still not feeling the best today. I am getting ready to head to the store. I'm not impressed with my grocery list but I am trying to keep it cheap and I'm also in a comfort food mood. It's not unhealthy really, but it's not the best. Nothing sounds good anymore (except fried chicken for some reason and when I really think about it, it just sounds gross:tongue: ).
I'm going to try to get some cleaning done today. I didn't do anything yesterday except laundry. Alex's OT is coming out tonight. I'm glad. He needs some attention. I laid around yesterday and didn't play with him. :ohwell:
A nap may be in my future too. I didn't sleep worth a hoot last night.
I need to get out of my slump. Going to see the doc on Tuesday. I hope she can help with maybe why I am feeling so run down during my girly time.
can't think of a boogaloo. lol

Today is my big teaching day, so no logging or scheduled exercise today. It's hard not to log, but I think it's a good mental break from worrying about "did I log that?" every time I want to eat something.

My goal is to not overeat tonight, and pack lots of quick snacks for the day. It's both really cool that I get all my job stuff done in one day and overwhelming.

I find the most exhausting part of the day is the commute, especially if the buses are crowded, it's very draining.

    Public transport boogaloo!:flowerforyou:

People who take public transport are healthier than those that don't  . Not that I do, just saying. The bus doesn't go to either of my work places and it's not safe to ride a bike - someday it will be - finger's crossed. I did figure out how to bike to my hard yoga class - safely and enjoyably - now if I could just get myself to do it - before daylight savings ends.

Yesterday - a walk and hard yoga.

Today- two teaching yogas, one hard, one easy, and a bike ride tonight.

Trying to think of something new for dinner. This week we had: ww pasta with arugula, bean soup, salad and baked potato (roasted in the oven with fresh mozzarella, yum) , asparagus omelette with fried potatoes, and grilled veggies and ww couscous. Oh, and husband doesn't like tofu, so that's limiting too. Suggestions?

Hi Mary! My husband does most of the cooking, and it's vegetarian (he doesn't really like tofu either). Here's what he came up with off the top of his head - if you want more details on anything, just let me know.

broccoli makhani - crushed tomatoes, broccoli, chickpeas, coconut milk, indian spices
hummus - lots of varieties, with veggies and pita
french onion soup - lots of onions and veggie broth, topped w/toasted baguette and cheese
warm chickpea/onion/feta salad w/toasted pita - this is a Gordon Ramsay recipe he adopted
    ginger carrot soup
pasta and roasted red pepper pesto (or any pesto) w/asparagus
mushroom risotto (lots of mushrooms in a food processor)
    huevos rancheros
sweet potato "fries" (sliced and baked w/taco seasoning)
bruschetta (usually w/mushrooms, roasted red peppers and mozzarella)

OK, that's enough for now!
  • yoginimary
    yoginimary Posts: 6,789 Member
He makes risotto? I've never had the patience. Never could find brown risotto either, though I do have a recipe that uses barley instead. Thanks for the ideas.

Today we are going to try to get a long bike ride in before the rain comes. This week looks like a choice between hot or rainy. Fingers crossed that next weekend is cool and dry - even more fingers for the 17th (the day of the ride). Also might get a little yoga in - just some stretchy stuff. We are going to the gym of the hard yoga class to see when I need to leave if I ride there. Should be a great ride - some of Austin's best neighborhoods are on the way. Lots of hills though :ohwell:

Oh, forgot to share. I have an egg-sized bruise from standing on my arm. It was in hard yoga and I was so sweaty I slipped and bruised myself. I just love that though: standing on my arm.

    Weird images, boogaloo!

Good morning! We are on our way to watch a friend jump out of a plane!
Had swim class this morning. May work on cars this afternoon.
I think I may be losing weight. I'm not convinced but when I showered I thought I could tell a difference.
Better get off here so I don't get car sick! Lol.

Today is Bikram at 3. . .it's been a whole week since I've been, due to schedule disruptions earlier in my week.

I always get nervous when it's been a while. . .I'm trying to concentrate on "every class is different and new" and let that go. Hard for me.

Then, it's stay indoors and out of the rain boogaloo.
