Am I Exercising Enough?

If you are working out that much and not losing weight, are you eating cosnistently your body will go into starvation mode if you work out without replacing andy of the calories. so eat good food, small meals inbetween your routine.0
-
I just noticed too that you are doing BodyPump everyday. You should be doing weights/strength every other day, unless you do legs one day and arms the next, etc. With this routine you should be eating a whole lot in order to have a small calorie deficit (500-750 calories).0
-
Is this a JOKE?!?!?!?0
-
Seriously!0
-
If you're dedicating that much time to working out with no results. I'd stick to 60-75 mins per day (5-6 days) and up the intensity!!0
-
Thank you all for your opinions and comments! I know people my age who run a lot more and bike a lot more, so honestly I wasn't sure if classes are enough.
I'm not trying to brag at all. I'm concerned i'm not getting enough variety, as I am not losing weight, i'm eating clean and watch my carbs. I'm actually very frustrated!
Are you eating enough? You must be burning quite a lot with all those workouts. Are you shrinking at all...have you done measurements?0 -
If you're doing THAT MUCH and not losing any weight, perhaps your body is already at a happy weight right now. Maybe if you switch out some cardio for some weight-lifting that might help give you some variety and a metabolism boost by building muscle. But I don't really know. All I know is I wish I had time for all of that....0
-
You don't have a lot to lose, so that can make for very slow going. I'm guessing you're not eating all those exercise calories back and your metabolism is slowing down. I do three Pump classes a week (love 'em!) plus lots of cardio, and I started losing more weight when I ate more. A note on Pump/weight training -- knowing the classes well, I would really suggest skipping a day in between them. There's no recovery time there, which is critical.0
-
Sounds great, its a lot of cardio with a mix of strength training. Everyone's idea of too much or too little is different. What works for one person isnt always the same for someone else.
If you feel you can push yourself like you are, more power to you honey. Bravo for staying active. You are sure to see results as long as your food intake matches with healthy choices.
DO YOUR EXERCISE THINGS, there is no such thing as TOO much exercise as long as your doing it safely!0 -
I would drop half those group classes and focus on stationary strength training plus intense cardio. That's just me.0
-
I would say, if you're not losing weight right now that you need to do less actually, if you're able to do this much that might mean you're not pushing yourself as much as you could be. I would decrease it down to 3-4 days a week for about an hour and switch it up after each week. I'm doing JM ripped in 30 and that's what she does...after a while your body does get used to what you're doing and you'll stop seeing changes. Just mix it up, add more weights and less time/less repetitions) possibly get the new rules of lifting for women book...it's very helpful with this kind of thing and has a 6 month exercise plan that constantly increases weights but lowers the reps which increases muscle mass which will give you more definition.0

While I do not endorse the term "starvation mode", I think we have hit on something here.
You are not eating enough.
That's the problem.0 -
You're doing a great job with the workouts. Don't let others discourage you. You know what they say.. Ignorance is bliss. Keep going. You're wonderful!0
-
Sorry, I just think you're bragging.
Agree. And possibly lying. Seems like you'd be burning at least 1500 calories per day with all that but you say you can't lose weight even though you're eating clean. I call BS0 -
all the people who are saying she is bragging are probably jealous that they dont have half the work ethic she has.0
-
I agree.. Sorry. Unless you are being sarcastic this is clearly an attention post.0

That can stifle progress.
MFP suggests a daily net calorie intake to result in 1 lb of weight loss per week.
1 pound equals 3500 calories.
3500 divided by 7 days equals 500 calories per day. Our MFP daily number already has that 500 calories subtracted.
When we exercise, that green number goes up, because MFP expects us to eat back your exercise calories to keep your net daily calorie intake steady; that's how MFP works. Read this to learn more.

Just follow the MFP recommendations for healthy, steady and lasting results.
You could reduce quicker, but what would be the quality of that weight loss?
It could lead to increased muscle loss, and that stifles metabolism.
No, eat right, exercise - both cardio and resistance, lose weight in such a way that maintains health and preserves lean body mass which burns more calories at rest.
Good luck to you.:flowerforyou:

Yeah, but you don't look like you need to lose 40lbs. And 3 hours a day is friggin' excessive. So I'd either say you're a little bit of a show-off for some reason, or you're a bit delusional about your body image.0 -
I'd say you should do at least another 3 hours a day :-)
....
Medical advice in the UK according to Radio 4 this morning is 1/2 hr a day for 5 days a week . You are getting more exercise than 95% of the population I'd guess so I think you are fine.0 -

hahhahaha
my thoughts exactly...
if you arent exercising enough, then me exercising one hour 4-5x week is lazy :P0 -

It seems that you are doing too much cardio! Read this article...4 Indicators you are doing too much cardio & number 2 is, You aren't seeing results!!
Take a look: http://sheerbalance.com/brettsblog/4-indicators-you-do-too-much-cardio/0 -
My 2 penny's or cents for you cousins over the pond.
Looks like you are doing A LOT of exercise and ignoring REST...others have a similar problem on here, so you're not alone.
Maybe introduce some sort of interval training to mix things up.
Having said that there are a lot of classes in there, which can help motivation in a group environment.
Maybe take a break on Wednesday to give your body a break.
Regarding the whole "showing off" / "bragging" remarks, my take on that is:
If you are, and it makes you feel good and will help you reach your goal - keep doing it !
Wishing you every success in your endeavour.

You know what, friends? If you were working as hard as she is and not seeing results, you'd ask yourself the same damn question, wouldn't you...
Bragging?? I bust my *kitten* at least 5 times a week and with the work I'm doing, if I wasn't seeing results, I'd be wondering if it wasn't enough too.
Give constructive feedback. Not putdowns because someone else is kicking your *kitten* with respect to putting in the "work".0 -

I weigh 176 currently, i'm apparently obese according to the BMI and need to weigh 140. 3 days a week is 2 hours, 1 day is 3 including yoga. 3 days i do nothing. i'm not delusional i'm frustrated.0 -

Double amen! Thanks for all of the helpful links!0 -
Yes it's excessive. And could eventually become counterproductive...especially if you're not seeing results already. You could be putting too much stress on your body, not nourishing it with enough calories or giving yourself enough rest. Serious overkill in my opinion.0
-
Its obvious you're bragging (am I doing enough? ^.^ *works out for hours 5+ days a week) but regardless its a solid routine if you stick to it.0
-
I would like to see at least two days of weight training. An upper body day and a lower body day. Even if you lift for only 30 minutes on each of those days it'll make your routine more complete. AND, a rest day. At least one rest day!0
-
Ummm....
You are exercising way too much.0
