this happens to me all the time and I work in a male dominated industry. I immediately lose respect for the person if they give me the dead-fish.

The worst is when you go into a job interview and you have a firmer handshake then the person giving the interview. Throws me off for the whole thing considering in HS they tell you over and over again to not do the dead fish hand shake. lol.

for real they TEACH this in high school ....?

    BTW hate flimsy handshakes too
  • I find it nearly impossible not to shudder when I get a dead fish handshake. I've already taught my son how to shake properly - and yes, this is important for both men and women. It's so cool to shake hands with a woman who has a nice technique and hand strength.

a handshake should be firm and delivered with eye contact. a handshake is a handshake. this "dainty" up-turning of the palm men are referring to... WTH!? Isn't THAT the approach when you are going to kiss a ladies hand?

I only grab the fingers and turn their backhand up so they have the opportunity to curtsey. Its more proper and less likely to inflict injury.

I hate when guys do this. Seriously, I'm a professional. Address me with the same courtesy you would a guy in the same position.

That means shake my hand properly. Because it just makes you look like an a$$hat when my handshake is more manly than yours.

Huh. Didn't realize this was that big of a deal. I always shake hands dainty. No reason to get all up and firm with someone I don't know. Now I'm worried I've offended someone...

I totally get you on this one. When a guy shakes my hand like that I seriously walk away thinking... 'puss'. I mean, I get that a guy doesn't want to crush my hand with his manly-hulk-powers (haha), I can even understand a respectful I'm-shaking-a-ladies-hand thing. But the dead fish, just leaves me feeling creeped out.

I have a very strong grip and like to watch them wince in pain as I squeeze, male or female! LOL!
