I admit I am not one to be picky. I actually love trying weird/new things. BUT something about all CANNED meats (besides tuna) creeps me out. Spam and things like that, omg. It makes me sick to my stomach!

That looks like something my grandma would keep in her pantry. Gross!

I honest to god auto-completed that post in my head and thought it said 'panties'.

    My head hit the desk.
  • That's just put me off chicken....

Canned whole chicken. BLECK! The Sweet Sue trademark is by Bumble Bee Foods; (I guess they thought, "canned tuna, why not canned chicken?").

Any idea of the sodium/calorie count?

I remember reading somewhere that they actually cook the chicken after it has been put in the can...

At least it's not called "chicken product." That's what it's called when it's not legally allowed to be called chicken. It's rather disturbing, though not as much as "food product"...

While I think that looks completely vile (then again, I think all chicken, except those still running around look vile), this sort of product might be ideal for someone who lives in a remote location, or a location prone to losing power (you could always BBQ it I guess).

Just for fun, I'm going to buy some of this, make a fake label saying it's chocolate icing, and put in the pantry and wait for my husband to find it.

A lot of very ridiculous replies on this thread. Have you ever heard the phrase 'first world problems'? There are a lot of people in this world that would be overjoyed to have a shelf stable fully cooked protein available like this.

It's chicken, cooked in a can. Not a lot different from chicken cooked in a pot. They put the chicken in there, close it and heat it up to cook the chicken. The 'slime' is actually just chicken stock that is created as the bird cooks.

If you were going to boil a chicken to make chicken soup, but cooled the chicken down in the cooking liquid before taking the meat off the bones, it would look remarkably like the chicken in the photo.

I'd be willing to bet I could take this can of chicken and make a dish that would cause you to drool...

This would be the case of not knowing what it is before you eat it...logically I KNOW that the goo is normal, I've cooked whole chickens before and put them in the fridge to pull the meat off later...but that still doesn't stop my brain from saying "F THAT!"

I use canned chicken in casseroles and stuff and its not bad.

However... this just LOOKS nasty and I dont think I would be able to get over that long enough to eat it.

Was planning on making chicken sometime this week...

...I'm not sure I can do it without thinking about this though...

    ...maybe scallops instead...

Now I have to go out and buy one. I have to show my wife and see if the chicken slowly oozes out. It does look like a can giving birth.
