Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) is a colorless and odorless chemical compound, also referred to by some as Dihydrogen Oxide, Hydrogen Hydroxide, Hydronium Hydroxide, or simply Hydric acid. Its basis is the highly reactive hydroxyl radical, a species shown to mutate DNA, denature proteins, disrupt cell membranes, and chemically alter critical neurotransmitters. The atomic components of DHMO are found in a number of caustic, explosive and poisonous compounds such as Sulfuric Acid, Nitroglycerine and Ethyl Alcohol.

Each year, Dihydrogen Monoxide is a known causative component in many thousands of deaths and is a major contributor to millions upon millions of dollars in damage to property and the environment. Some of the known perils of Dihydrogen Monoxide are:

- Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
- Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
- Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
- DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
- Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
- Contributes to soil erosion.
- Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.

It is a dangerous chemical. Can you believe it's still legal in all 50 states?

Is this found in food, exercise equipment, beer or pornography? ... if not, I think I'm safe.

    Food, yes.
    Exercise equipment, yes when dirty.
    Beer, yes.
    Porn, maybe.

No place is safe any more. There is a swell of it in my back yard. My daughter and our dogs were doused in when she gave them a bath recently. There needs to be a government commitee on how to control, tax and ban the hell out of this. I think rml_16 should be the chair person.

Well damn...I used to just drink one beer a day or every other day due to the calories and swelling it can cause me once in a while. But if its in beer and its going to kill me, I might as well swig the stuff like I really want to and just drink all my cals.

this is a much bigger deal than people realize.

this is often found in canned foods, as well as in most animal products.
it can be found at playgrounds, swimming pools and even day-care centers. :frown:

i can't believe that the proper governing agencies are not dealing with this.
thank you for shedding some light, i hope that with some grass-roots initiative we can make some headway.
