It's funny, I don't get hungry right after a workout, it's the next morning! I'm transitioning to a vegetarian lifestyle and I swear I would rush tackle a cow for some beef the morning after a workout, I'm so hungry HAHA.

I drink a protein shake after a workout to regain some calories and protein, though.

You are supposed to eat after working out.
Just keep fats low since it doesnt help with recovery.

High protein and starchy carbs go a long way after a workout.

Protein for me. Shakes are a quick way to get something after your workout. But for me the protein helps keep me from getting hungry for a while
  • bump, for later. would like to keep up with this one

I allocate a decent amount of Calories for my after work out meal, which also happens to be Dinner, I don't suppress it but I also don't over do it... usually consume around 500 cals after a workout at least 30 grams of protein. and another protein shake before sleep. so I usually have about 700 calories waiting for me in the evening

I have the opposite problem, after exercising, I just simply am not hungry at all and have a hard time even swallowing food. But, I try to ensure I make a few egg whites to eat after a work out so I have something.

MY brain is what makes the choices, not my feelings. So, I know it needs fuel and I tell the body to obey!

I take on fluid, usually water, as I train. And I usually plan my exercise to be before a meal so that I can eat after. Almonds are a real good way to stave off hunger pains and I use the Danno Danimal Smoothies on the days where my meal is still a couple of hours away. Feed your hunger otherwise you teach your body to horde fat, but just have your snacks planned out before hand. MFP has taught me to be wiser about my food choices.

A post workout really thick protein shake is my favorite for satisfying me, plus it's cold so it cools me down and energizes me :)
Go for something low cal and bulky like shakes, egg white omlets, veggies, etc. Also drinking a couple iced coffees with a splash of almond of skim milk and some sugar free syrup afterwards should really help to satisfy any emotional "I need a reward" cravings. :P

Post workout is the BEST time to eat. Just eat slowly to prevent overeating.

I suppress mine with food! If I'm hungry I eat. But something healthy. It'll keep that ole metabolism up.

I usually have a protein shake with fruits inside. This is very fullfilling, tasty and good for my muscles.

This drives me insane, I get a awesome work out in, feel amazing, come home and am starving!!! What has helped me is eating half my breakfast before my work out and the other half when I get home.... kind of crazy I know but it's worked for me:)
  • drink a tall glass of water post work out.. and eat slowly. after a few days of this habbit your body will be able to tell you when your no longer hungry.

i often eat a 250-300 calorie chocolate bar after going to the gym. some people tell me it defeats the purpose of working out, but i disagree because i eat 1600 calories a day whether i work out or not. what difference does it make if i use 300 of those calories on a post-workout chocolate bar so long as i stay within the numbers?

it deals with the post-workout craving, and frankly i look forward to the treat after being in the gym. i guess if you're trying to be more healthy you go for something healthier, but right now i'm just trying to lose weight and the post-workout chocolate bar certainly isn't hurting that!

I get those mostly with cycling or after only doing elliptical, but if I do any running, I seem to have the opposite and don't get hungry for an hour or more. I go for a bag of roasted chickpeas and a raw nut and fruit bar usually, or some chocolate coated rice cakes if I am badly craving sugar.

Plan your meals so that most of your calories are post workout. Then you can eat a ton without issue!

It's strange, when I was really active and in really good shape (ages 13-21) after a workout I wasn't hungry, didn't matter. If I'd just played a 90 minute soccer game I could not eat. Now I'm almost 30, extremely out of shape (and about 50 pounds heavier) and I'm ravenous when I get home. I'm not sure I'm really hungry though, I just want FOOD, all of it. It's taking every ounce of my will-power right now not to eat 3 more english muffins and half a block of cheese.
  • I usually have a protein shake right after my workout, usually includes 1 scoop of Ultimate Nutrition Gold Standard protein, 1 cup of soy milk or almond milk, 1 tbsp peanut butter sometimes I'll substitute water for the milk or flax seed oil for the peanut butter and sometimes I 'll throw in some fruit :)
