Any LOTR geeks here?

I've been trying to get my roommates to marathon through LOTR extended blu-rays with me. (Along with copious amounts of 420) But even that wouldn't convince them to watch it with me. Need to find some geekier friends apparently. Love the movies though, and the books even though I have not read them in full since high school.0

me! me! *waves*
started on the books when i was 9. own them all, and the movies, and regularly re-watch them.
extra geek points: i've even read a great deal of Tolkien's studies on medieval literature and philology.0 -
LOTR geek? I don't know...Does owning action figures, posters, goblets, a snow globe, all the soundtracks, two set of the books, and the extended versions of the movies classify me as a geek?
Probably a little :P I just recently watched the extended ones (alone of course, for some reason no one can sit through the extended ones...) I love LOTR!0 -
 LOVE LOTR!!!!!! Cant wait for new movie from the same director and basically same story, I just cant remember the exact name of themovie right now but I CANT WAIt!!!!
*WOULDNT CONSIDER MYSELF A LOTR geek though because I dont really obsess over it*0 -
I have read the books once a year for awhile now and I have seen the movies just as often since they came out. Sometimes more. lol. I am a full fledged LotR geek with no shame. I plan to watch a marathon of them before going to see the Hobbit.0

Never read the books, but I loved the movies, bought the trilogy and cry at the end every single time when Frodo leaves. If they're on TNT, Starz or any other channel I will rewatch them.
Sometimes my son will watch the marathon with me.
Luv LOTR!!!0 -
love the movies, love the books (favs are the Hobbit and the Two Towers esp the part where Gimli and Legolas count their Orc kills-much better in the book). I also have the Simillarion, which kind of gives you a background and a look at the future of the LOTR world. The end of Return of the King the movie and book make me cry. Frodo forever!0

So psyched for The Hobbit.
Totally making my 2 year old a Hobbit costume for Halloween this year!
EDIT: I have read all the books, including The Silmarillion. I love the elves. I wish I could be one. Is that lame? A little, but I have no shame!
And of course I've seen the movies.0 -
So I'm wondering if Peter Jackson will do a Silmarilon movie in 10 parts?
So want to see Beren and Luthien, the fall of Gondolin, Feanor and the Balrogs....
I'd be orgasming the entire movie if that happened. But it never will, that book is impossible to film0 -
HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! I have "hope" in Elvish tattooed on my wrist, and I used to be able to read and write Dwarvish fluently (being a fan wasn't the reason for learning it...writing "coded" notes with a friend was...but still, lol!)0

I'd love a Silmarillion movie... But it would be very difficult to translate from a book to a (let's be honest) three hour movie. Silmarillion is more of a history book.0

LOVE Lord of the RIngs!!! looking forward to the Hobbit!!0

I *LOVE* LOTR. My family does too- we redecorated our basement with a bunch of posters from our favorite movies and my dad let each kid pick out a few...guess which I picked? We also had a pet turtle that we named Haldir of the Golden Wood. And I used to fall asleep with the soundtrack on every night.0

My husband and I have a LOTR (extended versions) marathon every fall, usually between Thanksgiving or Christmas, and I look forward to it every year. Can't wait until the Hobbit comes out and we can make it an entire weekend of marathoning!
ETA: I wanted to add that I have read the books and love them. I tried to read the Silmarillion back in high school but couldn't get through it. I'll have to give it another try now that I'm older and (supposedly) wiser.0 -

Should I mention that I spent a good part of my early 20s on theonering.net, became friends with a couple of the moderators and spent 75% of every day in the Barliman's chat room? Or that I buy every copy of LotR I see... along with The Hobbit and The Silmarillion.... or that I printed off the Sindarin dictionary that I keep in a special folder... or that I have a crap ton of the action figures from the films... along with an Arwen doll and a talking Treebeard? Or should I just keep all that in the closet? Haha0

LOVE them, I want to be an elf!0

At risk of getting mauled to death by a mob of angry geeks I'll say I prefer the movies over the books.
Don't get me wrong, I comprehend the zeitgeist-changing innovations the books brought to fantasy literature, but personally, I can only read a limited number of awfully written hobbit poems in one sitting...
come to think of it, I should read the trilogy again. I try to get my wife to watch all the movies in one sitting, but she can't sit still for that long...0 -

LOTR marathon planned with my friends on sunday. Can't wait0

I love LOTR. Read the books 8 times, seen the movies more times than I can count, own the extended editions, etc, etc.
I can't wait for the Hobbit, either! Did anyone else hear about how it MIGHT be a trilogy instead of just two movies??? *fangirls* I think we should know for sure by the end of this week or so.0 -
huge LOTR fan.. and i cant wait for the new hobbit movies.. im gonna be as giddy as a school girl.. erm.. boy..
I am comfortable enough to say that I am giddy as a schoolgirl who just had her first kiss. That, or a fat man eating a twinkie... In any event, suffice it to say that I love Tolkien's work. I cannot tell you how many times I have read them, listened to the old BBC dramatizations watched the cartoons, the movies.
Also, have you guys seen that they are contemplating making The Hobbit into a trilogy instead of just the two movies we were promised?0 -
I am a HUGE LOTR geek and I nearly fell over with excitement when I saw this post lol. Has anyone done an extended edition marathon?0
-
i have never read the books or watched the movies.
i fail.0 -

REALLY?! what are they going to use content wise to fill it all? The unfinished tales and letters?0 -

Best line of the movies??
My friends, you bow to no one.
Very dignified and sad, if you realize how little anyone in the shire knew of their true deeds. I wish Jackson would have done the scouring of the shire....0
