Just signed up for another ride - Saturday, 45 miles. I really enjoy them; it's nice to ride without too many stops and have someone else tell you where to go. The getting up early doesn't suit me completely though. yawn Luckily this one starts at 9am rather than 8.

Today is, let's see, um... yoga and bike ride. Ended up riding to yoga yesterday and skipping the walk. Only did 30 min of yoga, but dang, we were busy yesterday.

I just found a downside to teaching yoga - I have to find a sub for the Friday after Thanksgiving - hopefully, I can get someone as we should be in Dallas and I would hate to rush home.

Goal for the week? No desserts until Saturday, when I'm allowed 1 dessert - that's it. I'm allowed a taste during the cooking class I'm taking on Friday though - just a taste!

    New week, boogaloo!

I hope no one else was starting this at the same time!

This week my goals are to get back into eating healthy and to add exercise at least 3x this week. I'd like to do 5x but I don't know if that's going to happen. Everyday this week I will be going somewhere, and most of the things will take all morning.
I really like junk food but I am learning a lot about it, like it makes it makes me feel like crap. lol I know I crave a lot of different kinds of junk food but I am hoping to get to the point that I just really don't want it anymore.
    Goals for today:
go for a walk pulling Alex in the stroller
finish cleaning up my messes around the house
catch up on Bible study reading
get my push ups in (I have not done them in weeks)
    crunches
    drink lots of water
get DH to hide the scale for a month
Let's see if I actually get them all done.
    Busy day boogaloo!

I like your pic, Mary - you look great!

Mary - I'll join you on the "one dessert" challenge for the week, too. I haven't decided yet what it will be, but I want to make sure it is something I will really enjoy. I did pretty well last week avoiding sugar (except for a stupid donut that I didn't want), so I want to keep that up. I'll still allow myself honey in my tea if I want it - so far, I haven't.
MM - I'll be with you getting back to pushups this week. And drinking lots of water; I haven't been doing that lately because I get tired of running to the bathroom all the time... :ohwell: But I want to get an official weigh-in and measurements on Wednesday, so at least for the next couple of days I will be trying to focus on that. I was still down this morning, weight-wise, so I am hopeful.

So, to sum up, my goals for the week are:
    - avoid sugar, only one dessert
    - pushups 3x
    - drink my water
    - Jillian Michaels' "Back" workout 2x
    - belly dance and running (1x each), plus 1-2 other cardio workouts
    - weigh & measure on Wed

    Goal-setting, boogaloo!

I'm up for the no sugar business as well. . .but I have to start tomorrow. . .my goal is to make it (after lunch today, date day) to next Tuesday.

I just ordered a bunch of new workout DVDs from Amazon. I'm embarking on a "winter is no excuse" plan. I've drawn up a flowchart/calendar/schedule plan. Something like "workout at the gym: weights class 9:15, or
    >DVD at home, 1 pm, or
    >spin class, 6pm. In other words, I'm giving myself three chances on my scheduled workout days. I need a schedule, but I like options. (I am officially what we call "eccentric". . .or would be if I was rich. Since I am poor, I have to be merely strange.)

Also, I really need to concentrate on my vit. taking. I bought Vitamin D yesterday, which I'm told might help with my SAD, I hope it works! (I refuse to go back on antidepressants because the sun isn't shine-y enough)

Today is a scheduled day off, but there will be lots of walking. Managed Bikram yesterday, and was pretty proud of myself. A bit sore from it today, evidence of how immobile I've been the past week or so.

    Reboot Boogaloo!

Joining the "1 dessert challenge" as well.

    Love the picture Mary!

I'm OBSESSED with poached eggs lately. I started eating them in Australia, and have had them every day since I've been home. Two poached eggs on a bed of warm spinach with just a shaving of romano cheese and some salt and pepper. YUM. The jetlag has been playing tricks on me! For the past three days I've been up until 4 or 5am. Making dinner at 3am, then sleeping til 12pm and basically not eating during the day because I just haven't been hungry.

That will stop this week -- I got up at 8:30am so I'd be tired enough to go to bed earlier tonight.

    Okay, goals:
~ Start with a bigger breakfast to see if it will help with late-night eating
    ~ Get to bed earlier
    ~ One dessert this week
~ Work out 5 days this week
~ Yoga 1 day this week

Hey V - if it's really SAD, have you thought about light therapy? You can get a light box and sit in front of it for a while every morning. I think you can even read or do other things during the therapy. Not sure if you could exercise, though.

I just finished my pushups - yay. They are still hard - boo. Belly dance was fun tonight. The session is almost over, so I am going to have to decide if I want to do another beginner session or move on to intermediate.

    Night night! (you too, WL)

    Up too early.

But, this means I'm up in plenty of time to try the new group weight training class at my gym at 9:15. I'll report back.

Yeah, CP I do have a light box. It helps, but only some. I think it's just some weird reptile brain cold climate thing. Winter comes, and somewhere from my Norse heritage, the wiring says "fatten up and stay inside! The crops might not last the winter!". When I moved North from Florida to Ohio, I thought I was dying the first November. I'm just trying this winter to see if I can flip my schedule, and get everything I need to get done by sundown. I'm like a reverse vampire.

Today: weights, hydrating, vits and work, work, work. My husband is playing on the road for a few days, so I'm using it as sort of a retreat to finish up the latest draft and the huge pile of marking.

V, I also shut down when it gets dark out, especially during the winter, but all year long really. Actually for me I prefer to get all my outdoorsy stuff done in the morning, or at the latest early afternoon. If I don't, I put it off.
CP, I did my push ups yesterday also. I went back to week 2 but I'm not sure that was necessary. My son was doing them with me so I keep giggling and it was messing me up.
Well, the moldy wall thing is turning out to be a huge project. There are ventilation holes in brick houses that, in case water gets in, they allow air in to help the water evaporate. Well, the holes are too big and water is just pouring in. So they have to tear out some of the mortar and repack it and reseal it and test again. There's 80% chance of rain tomorrow. I'm kind of doubting they will get it done. I wonder what they will do to keep water from pouring into the house?
Anyway, having them here has thrown me off my routine and cleaning schedule. I don't know why. I guess they are an excuse.
Today is: tumbling class, and if not too windy and cool, I will go walking or roller blading.
Then I have to get some cleaning done too.
    More craziness boogaloo!

Day light savings time ends in a couple of weeks, so that will throw all of us off again or help us out. Right now, the sun rises around 7, which is perfect for me - I don't see how y'all northerners can get out of bed in the winter - dark and cold.

My lunch was so beautiful yesterday I almost took a picture of it: strawberries, blackberries, banana, orange, red grapes, and kiwi (also had some cheese and bread, but it didn't add to the color).

Today bike and yoga - I could do the whole week, let's see: Wed: bike and yoga, Thurs: bike, Fri: yoga. I need to add a walk in there or my feet may forget what they're there for.

Dessert challenge successful day 1, boogaloo!

Just got back from the gym and well, Ouch. That was a challenging class. My only complaint with it was that she didn't tell us the move she was about to do just said "pick up your heaviest dumbell." For me, I have neck and (for right now) middle back issues, so I needed to know what muscle group we were doing before I chose a weight that was appropriate. I told her about it (I'm working on voicing issues of any sort immediately, sort of a zero tolerance policy at my gym. . .I'm not sure I'm thrilled with it right now, but that's another story.)

Tomorrow I had scheduled a day off in case the class was hard. It was.

Exercise is done for the day boogaloo!:flowerforyou:

I find it really hard to get up in the dark, although I managed this morning. If it is too cold in the bedroom, though, it is almost impossible. I have to set the thermostat to a higher temp 15-30 minutes before I need to get up, or else I will hibernate under the covers until mid-morning. So I like the 'fall back' for that reason... but I hate the fact that it will be completely dark when I get out of work then.

Anyway, I got up and did my JM "Backside" DVD. I cheated a little and used my lighter weights; when I do it again on Thursday, I will use the heavier ones. I need to get a cardio session in tonight, but my knee has been bothering me a little since my last run, so I think it will be elliptical. I am sore from last night's pushups, but as of yet no sign of the chest strain I was having before (yay!).

I want your lunch, Mary. MM, I hope they get your wall fixed!

    Lunchtime already? boogaloo :flowerforyou:

The house situation just gets better and better. lol. I got Alex's stroller out of the hall closet and realized it smelled like dead something. Now it seems to be permeating the downstairs. Lovely. Have I mentioned to you ladies how badly I want to move? :grumble:
On a good note, I got a walk in. I even jogged a little.
Alex did great in tumbling. If you care to, you'll have to look at his videos on FB. WL, are you on FB so I can add you?
I'm going to see if I can open some more windows to air out the house. It's a gorgeous day...high of 80. Perfect for me!

Alright, I took measurements and weighed myself this morning. I am officially down 3.5lbs since August! The measurement differences were slight enough that I don't know whether they are real or not - it looked like I was down 1/4-1/2" at the waist and 1/2" at the hip. It makes sense because I haven't noticed much difference in my clothes. And my knee is finally smaller than my calf (I have weirdly big knees) - yay.

I worked late last night, but forced myself to go use the elliptical for 30 minutes in the workout room when I was done. It's a different model than the one I'm used to - I put it on "random", and found that a level of 8 was so high in resistance that I couldn't move it without using my arms as well as my legs (which was kind of annoying when I went to take a drink). But it was a tough workout for 30 minutes - the HRM said I burned 365 calories, which is pretty high for me.

Tonight is pushups, and DDR if my knee feels up to it. Sorry about your stinky house, MM.

    Congrats CP!
I stepped on the scale. Hubby still has not hidden it from me. I am still the same weight. I know I need to give it more time but it's a little frustrating. I've been struggling for the last week with cravings. I am going to try harder this coming week. I have been getting more exercise so that's bound to make a difference...right? :ohwell:
I have spent the last 20 minutes looking at Chick-fil-a's website to see what I can have that will fit in my budget and that I will like. I think I managed to figure it out. I will need to get some kind of exercise in if I can to up my calories though. I don't know when I will be able to do it. We will be gone all morning, and then the guy is coming to paint the wall at 2 and will be here till DH comes home. And it's raining today. See all my excuses?
Did not sleep last night. It was hot and it smelled like dead rodent, so hubby and I are dragging today.
We have church tonight too, if we are awake enough to go.

Congrats CP, that must feel really good. I'm working on feeling that by Christmas.

Another near perfect biking weekend ahead in Central Texas - high in the mid 70s with little wind. I really like October and November in Texas - except when the allergies knock me out, but hardly anything survived this summer. A friend of ours was talking about shoveling snow - something we have never done. I decided I'll take the heat - now that it's over and forgotten.
Oh, it's 45 miles on the ride this weekend.

Yesterday I mostly walked and didn't get yoga in. No bike today because of the rain. Maybe a trip to the gym and yoga.

    3.5 lbs boogaloo, indeed!

    Morning pebbs,

So, I'm pretty sore today from the weights class yesterday, mostly my legs and butt. I only can sort of feel like I did something in my upper body, which is interesting because there were some "can't possibly do another rep ever" moments during the class (bicep curls or chest presses). I'll go back for sure.

Today I'm going to try to get some housework done with my day off from working out extra energy:laugh: . Also, I've already slogged through five pages of editing and hope to do three more today. I actually broke down and hired a copy editor who works at a local press, and it's been amazingly helpful. She's brutal, but helpful. I hope to have it in show-it-to-my-supervisor shape by next week. (it's a lot of "why is there no citation here? you need a quote to back this up?". . .so a lot of re-researching. . .very slow work) Oh, and today I start marking/grading again. I'm really trying not to put that off until the last minute. I hate grading, or I should say I hate grading to someone else's format and standards.:grumble:

So, my plan for the rest of the day is to clean for an hour and then go get a mani/pedi as a treat. I will then start grading, and grade at least five assignments (they go slow. . .probably 15-20 minutes per). Oh, and take my vitamins and hydrate and not eat a sweet. I really wanted a sweet yesterday, but made it all day.

    That's awesome, CP!

MM, here's a gross smell trick I know: take a box of baking soda, put it in a bowl and add enough hot water to make a thick paste. Put the bowl in the stinky land (best if you can close the closet door). It works pretty well, as the paste absorbs the bad funk.

I'm envious of your biking, Mary. I have spent the past week looking at weird corners in my apartment, and wondering if I could fit a bike in them. I think sometimes with a helmet and a steely resolve I could bike in the city (I used to do it) but then I lose my nerve. And, really, there's not a lot of room in the apartment for a bike. I did find a place in town that rents bikes by the day (within easy distance of my place) so at least I know that for next spring.

    whoops. Novella boogaloo!:flowerforyou:

Thanks V, for the stinky tip. That sounds funny.

I had a small (seems big to me!) victory today! Yesterday when I planned my Chick-fil-a lunch I originally put the kids meals 6 piece nuggets. I looked at it again this morning and realized I just couldn't do that. So I changed it to the 8 piece nuggets and a side salad, with buttermilk ranch dressing and barbecue sauce, and a diet coke. Still sounds not so great because of the dressing and sauce. But that's what I like. Well, I forgot to ask for bbq sauce so I did without. I only used about 3/4 serving of the dressing, and on top of that I only ate half of it! I did eat all my chicken and one piece of Alex's and one of his fries. I got out of CFA eating 500 cals and only 24g of carbs! I know the cals are a little high for a meal, but I usually eat over a 1000 when I go.
DH told me last night that he thinks it takes a mindset to eat right and I don't have the mind set yet, so he doesn't know how it's going to work. Well, at least I am trying! It doesn't kill me to go without the fries! I sure like them but I can live without them! So I am pleased!
Now I just gotta figure out how to get a work out in today!
    Hooray for small victories boogaloo!

    Good morning,
It seems the baking soda trick might be working! I haven't opened the closet door but I don't smell it in the house anymore! Thanks V! :smooched:
I forgot to do my push ups yesterday, so I will try to get them done today. For some reason my whole routine is off with the guys here working on the wall. He's painting today and putting the trim on tomorrow and will be all done.
    Today's goals:
grocery shopping (looked at my list and :noway: too many carbs. Gotta work on that this morning!)
laundry, sweep and vacuum (a note to myself that I have to do this today!)
spraying trees for bugs(I don't want webworms this year)
and maybe a walk at some point.
    Oh and push ups!
    Have a good Thursday!
    Adding fruit back boogaloo!

    Morning, pebbs.

I am still very, very, very, very sore from the weights class on Tuesday. I think my weights were too heavy on the squats and lunges, which for some reason always make me sore (even with very light or no weights). Also, anytime I bend over to pick something up off of the floor, I think maybe I did too many deadlifts. Next week, I'll have to not let my ego pick the heaviness of my weights.

Today, I'm going for a walk in a little while if it's not raining, and if it is, I'm going to do elliptical at the gym. I was pondering a spin class, but don't think it's a good idea to push the legs too much, as I want to be able to go to Bikram tomorrow and a new Boxing class at my gym on Saturday. I feel like moving the legs will help with the soreness, but man are they sore.:grumble:

Also, more work on the paper (only 14 pages of editing left to go!) and more marking. It's really amazing the difference that good grammar makes on being able to read/grade a paper. I had one yesterday that took me an hour to grade (they are 3-4 pages long), because it was so bad in the grammar/syntax department. I just try to do little bits at a time and then take breaks.

    Baby steps boogaloo!:flowerforyou:

edited to add: MM, in a day or so, you'll want to get the baking soda out of your house, as it becomes the stink. (you'll be able to smell the funk on the baking soda. . .it's actually kind of cool.)

MM - why are you spraying your trees now? Web worms eat leaves, which will soon fall off anyway. I have two pecan trees - all I do is get after them in the spring (I cut off the worm infested branches) and have yet to have a problem. When you have the money, buy the $30 tree trimmer pole thingy - I never thought they were so affordable and kept borrowing my parents'. My other great $30 purchase was a staple gun - never have to replace a cat tree - just redo. I even learned how to make my own cat tree - I wasn't very good at it, but there's some serious cash to be made with scrap wood, carpet, and sisal rope. I digress.

I saw that there's a tv show with your name on it "V". Not sure what's it's about though (sound is off the tvs at the gym). Got an hour at the gym yesterday 1/2 walk 1/2 elliptical. Today - maybe a bike ride this afternoon. Going to see Evil Dead the Musical tonight - will report back. Also seeing Spring Awakening on Sunday - incredibly busy week!

It's about aliens living among us. There was an 80s TV series of the same name, and it was not kind to me in Jr. high/high school to have a "V" name. Nowadays, I'm much thicker-skinned. It was a pretty cool show, if I remember. I've noticed lately that "V" is everywhere "v-cast", "v-chip", etc. . .

We ended up going over to help some friends last night, so I didn't do any DDR. I did do my pushups right before bed, though. Tonight is running on the treadmill, and my Jillian "Back" DVD tomorrow morning (I had to get to work early today, and getting up early to do the DVD was just too much for me). Also, I need to go shopping for healthy food - I ran out of lunches, so I will be trying to make good choices at either Panera or Subway today.
Going to see Evil Dead the Musical tonight - will report back.
 Awesome. Evil Dead 2 is my favorite - the first one was actually trying a little too hard to be scary, and Army of Darkness was trying a little too hard to be funny. ED2 was the perfect tongue-in-cheek balance.
We went to see "Bat Boy: The Musical" a couple years ago. Sadly, it wasn't very good. :ohwell:

MM - why are you spraying your trees now?
I'm spraying now because I forgot to in the spring. Last year around this time the webworms got really bad in our cypress tree in the front, so I thought maybe this would help. It's a spray from Cutter that has to be used between 50-75 degrees. The warm weather snuck up on me in the spring so that's why I didn't get it done. Also the mosquitoes are absolutely horrible in our backyard (especially after the rain) and I'd really like to enjoy the fall weather out there. We have a lot of trees so it's nice, but the bugs are unbearable.
The rain is gone and the sun has come out again! Yay! Maybe I will try to go for a walk a little later.

Hi everyone! V, I want to thank you for your blog - I think I have a new mantra to help me fight the "don't-wannas". It worked last night, when I was late leaving work and tired. (I ran 4.5 miles, and did the first 1.75mi at a blistering speed of 7mph.) And it worked this morning, when I really just wanted to sleep in and rest my knee, which was a little sore from running. (I did my JM "Backside" DVD - and I used my heavier weights this time.)
Also, the part about the squirrels made me laugh.

So, I have already met my goals for the day. Woo-hoo! Now I just have to get through work. Oh wait, and do pushups.

Evil Dead the Musical was very silly. I enjoyed it, but I think fans will enjoy it a lot more. Oh, if you go, don't sit in the blood spatter zone unless you want to get really wet (we didn't, but we saw some people shivering who got splattered).

Got a short walk and bike ride in yesterday. Today: yoga and maybe a short walk if I get everything else done. Good weather for the bike ride tomorrow (45 miles). Already I want to do one Halloween weekend - it's a little far away though (over an hour) and it starts at 8  ooh, just realized we get an extra hour that night from Daylight savings time ending. hmmm, more attractive now. We'll see how husband does tomorrow...

You're so welcome! It felt a little Johnny Cochrane, but I keep thinking it, so it must be catchy.

and, Holy crap that is fast!

and, I am still laughing about the squirrels. Squirrels crack me up in general, but any really, really busy animal is funny to me.

Today, for me I actually wrote "write brilliant conclusion" on my to do list. That's "conclusion", ladies! The light at the tunnel may actually not be an oncoming train.

Other than that, it's using my own mantra to either drag myself to Bikram or do my Yoga Burn DVD at home. (special lady time has arrived, which makes all that sweating tricky. . .I'll spare you the details).

Also, continuing with the marking. I graded one yesterday in which the student just copied massive portions out of the book he was supposed to be summarizing without citing these portions. The larger problem is, that at the age/knowledge level of freshmen, this is a life lesson I need to teach him in case he didn't know. I docked his mark but didn't fail him, and have to convince him that that was merciful. Teaching is fun!

    Workout even if it's plan B boogaloo!:flowerforyou:

Hooray for V! Good job on getting your conclusion done! I have yet to read your blog but I want to.
CP, that's awesome running. I've been thinking about trying it again, but right now I have to jog with a bulky stroller plus 33 pound child so it's not that much fun. Or is it fun anyway?
Mary, Hope the ride goes well tomorrow! It seems like perfect weather!

Well, I think the guy is suppose to finish up the wall today. That's what he's been saying for the last two days. It really has set my routine off. I can't work out when he's here. I could go for a walk, but that's at Alex's nap time, and nap times are precious! I need to go for a walk later between Alex's nap and his OT coming. Doesn't leave a lot of time but I'm going to try.
Yesterday's perfect meal planned was derailed when friends invited us to dinner with them....
Oh wow. My day just changed! I have time to work out! It's a long story so I will spare you the details. The maintenance guy won't be back out to finish the wall until Wednesday. Kind of frustrating, but that's okay. Wednesdays I don't have time to work out anyway.
Now, what DVD do I want to do? Hmmm. Nothing sounds fun. :ohwell: It'll be taebo or Shred. Probably shred.
    Finally get to exercise boogaloo!

    Confession....
I'm going over my carbs today. :ohwell: I have been really hungry today. I also am really struggling with cravings. I hope it's just a day and I'm feeling stronger tomorrow. I think girly time is getting close so that may be why. I noticed a shift downward after eating Mexican last night. My body is wanting to go back to it's old ways. Die, old habits!
