30 Day Shred. Calories burned in level 1??? :)

Do you think level 1 of the Shred burns as many calories as MFP estimates? I am supposed to burn 168 cals in 20 mins, but I think that seems a little bit too much. (I'm 5ft 2 and 138.6lbs). The database says that Curves circuit training burns 103 cals in 20 mins. Should I split the difference between the two and say the Shred burns 135 cals in 20?
Also, has anyone used a HRM while "shredding"? How many cals did you burn? :)

MFP calculates me at 202 cals, I'm 167 lbs. I log it as 150 tho as I think MFP is way too high. I'll probably get a HRM soon tho to be sure. But for now I take off about 25% of what MFP gives me and only eat back half of what's left.
  • I've often wondered this myself. I'm 128lbs and I've always logged it as burning 160 cals but that seems a little high. I researched it online though and everything seems to say thats accurate. I think thats if you're just starting out and you're out of shape though. If you're used to it, its probably a lot less.
  • Ok I just saw a post from a girl with a HRM who weighs 130lbs. She wrote that she burned 138 cals on level 1, and around 170 on level 2. That sounds pretty accurate. Hope that helps

Do you guys just log it in as generic circuit training? or is there a special category for this program (if there is, I couldn't find one)

Thank you! I think that sounds about right. I'll log level 1 at 130 cals, level 2 at 150 cals and level 3 at 168 cals. :)

I usually log it as Circuit training - general as there isn't a specific category for it. :)
  • Thanks for your help everyone! x ;)

I log it as general circuit training, it estimates I burn 174 calories. I'm 5'10", 145 lbs. I don't know if it's accurate or not, but I don't always eat back all of my exercise calories so it shouldn't be a big deal. Plus if I continue to log similarly for levels 2 and 3, it'll even out in the end.

I'm curious if anyone has gotten (great) results on the 30 Day Shred? I'm headed on vacation in 28 days, been doing this for 2... I'm 5'3, 135 lbs, hoping to see the results she promises! What have you all experienced so far? Thanks!

it all depends on your fitness level as well. You could be 130 lbs, but totally unfit and burn more as its a harder work out for you.

I did the level 1 today for the first time and wore my Polar HRM - 170 calories burned. I thought it was low, but maybe that's normal?

    I'm an inch shorter & 10lbs heavier...think I would burn around 270??

I'm a 260 pound male, just looked and it would have me at 314 calories burned for 20 minutes of general circuit training, does that sound right? Or maybe a little high?

20 minutes of running (12 min mile) is also 314 for me right now.

I generally log it as 20 minutes of vigorous calithenics- it says 155 calories. This seems accurate which the research I've seen online- I'm 5"5 and 129lbs, but was extremely out of shape- I could barely get through the first few workouts! I imagine it's in the right ballpark, I am usually sweating and grunting and putting forth all my effort the entire way through. Sometimes I eat back my calories, sometimes I don't, but I am on day 7 today and seeing significant changes in my body for only having been doing it for a week. Loving it, and excited for Level 2... even more excited for day 30 when I get to see if my measurements have changed?

Im currently on level 2 of the shred day 9 i use an hrm. It depends on how much effort you put down and who you follow, i follow natalie so i burn 245 for level 2 usually in 20minutes level 1 was about 175. Im 5'0 im 122 pounds.

From my understanding, one may not lose a significant amount of weight doing this, BUT they WILL lose a significant amount of inches. So be sure to be measuring while doing this. I know I will!

I'm in the 160's and with a HRM I burn between 150 and 180 depending on the day, level and effort. I think that's about right for 20 minutes.

ditto. it isn't only about WHAT exercise but also your effort. this range ^^ is where my HRM lands me each time.

I use a HRM and typically burn between 120 and 140 per shred. I am 5'2" and weigh 131 pounds. Hope this helps
  • I have a Timex HRM and from start to finish (Ive done the work out roughly 3 times now) it says I burn about 240-260 each time. Im 5'5" and weigh 140 pounds. I really think it depends how much youre putting in and how hard youre working. I know my heart rate was at 150 whenever I was doing cardio, about 70 on the downtime.

Honestly Im confused by HRMs - I dont know how accurate it really is but thats what Im going with. I know people say to knock off 20% of the calories burned because sometimes its so much higher.
