MFP is NOT the holy grail

I'm constantly seeing people becoming discouraged on here because, quite simply, they are getting WAY TOO TECHNICAL with their weight loss!
STOP beating yourselves up and remember that MFP is to be used as a tool to aid in your weight loss but it is by no means the holy grail of fitness and dieting! And stressing out over the numbers is pretty counterproductive for weight loss if I do say so myself.
There are some, myself included, that get so hung up on the macro goals and net cals and eating back your exercise calories and BLAH BLAH BLAH that they lose focus of what is really important and what they really should be focusing on.
It’s really quite simple: EAT HEALTHY & EXERCISE
Set your calorie goal and so research into what YOUR PERSONAL calorie goal should be. Eat a balanced diet of vegetables, fruit, lean proteins, whole grains, etc and get your *kitten* off the couch daily and MOVE.
And for heaven's sake STOP WHINING about how hard it is! JUST DO IT! Obviously if you’re here, the way you have been living your life has left you feeling like there is something missing or something that needs to be changed so stop your b!tching about how hard it is. Do you want a better future than past or not?
EDIT: It was better said by another member and I would like to rephrase my previous paragraph a little....venting b/c you're sore, totally fine....what I mean is when I see people just STOP trying all together. How are you going to get better if you stop? I see it more on Facebook than on here but I got a lil type happy

I don't have a promblem with people stating how hard it is for them, as long as they're actually doing something about it. Venting can be therapeutic.0 -

This true. It is going to be hard for those of us who have never really taken fitness seriously. But if we're doing something about it, then at least let us have our little rants, and just feel free not to read them!0 -

Very well said! I am so tired of seeing people post "Been at this for 2 weeks and havent lost a pound!!" or the "I worked out last week and I am still sore so I have to stop" You obviously dont want to do the work that it requires to change your life. There is no miracle drug of machine that will do all the work for you and give you over night results, hard work and determination is what it takes and if your not willing to do it then stop complaining that nothing works! ::Sorry done ranting now:: :happy:0 -

I like that btw hahaha
@Michelle: When my sister first started working out last year at 230lbs doing her Jillian Michaels....she hurt...EVERYWHERE hahaha but she refused to stop. "If I stop I won't restart" She lost 80-90lbs b/c even though she was sore, she kept moving0 -
Well said.0

Shut your pie hole! It IS the Holy Grail! SideSteal told me so!!!

I am so tired of the...."okay...I quit. This is not working. I have been doing this for a week....lost .8 pounds and just gained it back." I see that and I go to a different post...I can't keep on reading those. It is so irritating.0

so... does it weigh more or less than a duck?0

i get annoyed at the people who think they are going to lose a ton of weight all at once. I have been on MFP since february and lost 11 pounds. It has been a slow journey but i'm doing it the RIGHT way with eating right and working out a LOT. i didnt want to just lose the weight, i wanted to lose the weight in a way that i could maintain. So crazy diets, not eating, etc were NOT an option. i want to live a healthier life, weight loss is a great side effect of that i think.0

But haven't most of us been at that place where we just want to give up? Haven't most of us given up a few times along the way? If we hadn't, we probably wouldn't be here.
I think most people who post about wanting to give up are probably just looking for others to say to them " no, don't give up this time. You can do it."0 -
JUST DO IT!
Nike0 -
Its because you are using the regular mpf site.
As part of the holy order of my fitness pal HOMFP you are able to move up in levels and obtain your higher level goals
I hope to get to black-watch plaid by next year!

Reaching out for help before quitting....definitely!
I'm referring to that....well, I'm sore - this is taking too long - I'm just gonna take a week break ....lol that turns into a month, 2 months lol etc0 -

Are you sure it's not made of wood?0 -

If someone just stops because they get discouraged, they aren't ready to lose weight. They didn't hit bottom. You have to or you wont take it seriously. They have to understand that its a forever thing....not a get the weight off fast and then go back to being what they were before thing. I know because I was one of those people....and I failed over and over again. But not THIS time.
I should add that I don't do the tech stuff either....don't follow BMR or TDEE or worry about any of it. I just do what works for me and I am doing ok.0 -
Totally agree that people need to stop focusing on the minutiae. It drives me crazy, all the little calorie tweaks and all the "IS THIS OKAY?!??!" posts.
This does not require difficult formulas or much thought at all. Here, this is how it works for diet: Eat less. Losing weight yet? If not, eat a little less. Are you losing weight? Great. Do you feel good? No? Okay, maybe eat a little more.
It is that simple. If it works, do it. If it doesn't work, change it. Any freakouts about the details are largely unnecessary.0 -

doesnt matter.....she turned me into a newt!0 -
Of course it's not the holy grail. It's merely a grail-shaped beacon.0

Some people are unsure and may need/want constant reassurance. Perhaps even why they joined a fitness site- to get advice from others.0 -

For me I won't complain about being sore because I figure if I'm sore I'm doing it the right way. Yes, somedays really suck but remember YOU ARE NOT A NUMBER!!!! is one thing you forgot to mention....lol. Here's to all you believe in hardwork, set backs and challenges make life interesting. I believe if you are challenged you savor the success more.0

So I can stop avoiding looking directly at it so as not to have my face melted off?
