OP, to be honest it seems like you had a half-formed idea and posted it because you were bored, and now you're defending your nebulous point for entertainment.
bored yes totally agree. I still stand by my opinion...no study on people can be a fact to all based on the common knowledge we are all different and do not operate all the same or respond the same.
FALSE
eating healthy and exercising and water and sleep is good for ALL THE HUMANS.0 -
Wow someone would argue that I am saying a study is a study not fact no matter what is on, about, or who does it? Oh and say I am coming across as unintelligent but if I said someone who takes studies literally is coming off as unintelligent I would be chopped into pieces.
What do you think a 'fact' is? And what do you imagine 'studies' do?
As one of those pesky scientists, I'd suggest you're not entirely clear on the nature of the research process. You might want to quit this thread while you're behind.
This. Maybe you should do some research into the world of research and clinical trials before you start making these statements.
Also, if research is a bunch of BS as you are implying, then why is so much based on evidence based research? EVERYTHING is based off of research, companies aren't just ran the way they're ran because someone thought it was a good idea, medicines aren't just a bunch of random chemicals thrown together in hopes it'll work, psychotherapy isn't just "talking it out", advertisments aren't just randomly designed in hopes they'll work. EVERYTHING is based off of research and what research has shown to work, or be best practice.
Now, with that being said, just because the matrix model of treatment is considered best practice for addiction, does that mean it works for everyone? No it doesn't, but there are guidelines out there for a reason. Everything you are doing as far a diet and weight loss is based off of some research study, why do you think you eat fruits and vegetables and protein and do a balance of macros? Its ALL RESEARCH.
Also, learn the difference between correlation and causation and what environmental and extraneous variables are. Just because there are more churches in a city that has more crime doesn't mean churches cause crime, there's the 3rd variable...called population, shocker.0 -
You may notice that there are no "laws" in biology, as there are in physics. Scientists recognize that their knowledge is not absolute, this is why science is ever changing. For a study to be taken seriously in the scientific community it must be performed to a certain standard and have reproducible results. This is how we figure *kitten* out. You may be interested in googling something called the "scientific method", it may give you some insight into how proper studies are performed. But you are correct that just because Joe Shmoe calls something a "study" does not mean that it is scientifically sound. A certain amount of scepticism is healthy.
I'm not sure that what the OP wrote can sensibly be described as 'scepticism', though... :-)0 -
I read a "study" that Native Americans and Russians have the biggest wangs in the world. Does this prove that this is "factually" the cause of the cold war?0

This is true. I was trying to be nice, it was better than the alternative which involved being utterly offended and *FACEPALM* .

Ummm seems a nerve was hit...NOT what I was going for just giving my personal opinion. If it is not yours I can
obviously see that/ Nothing said changes my mind. And if I am a troll because I am not in agreement with the general populations that is silly.
When a study is done the info they give is only 100% known FACT on the people they studied onl?
AM I the only one having trouble with this? oh well. LOL
A small point in the way I think is:
Just like a study says Susie at the same height, weight, and lets throw in body fat will burn fat at the same rate if running the same distance and time as me? Not fact because if Susie does the exact same physical activity as me the same duration but I am more advanced and it is easier for me surely she should be burning MORE because she has to work harder to do it? That is the kind of things I am talking about.
Now say I am not smart or making an ignorant statement but it makes since to me more then the study.0 -
So because my opinion is not the general population I am a troll? Wow I feel like I just stepped back into 1st grade. Sad.0 -
The studies MFP uses are pretty general. And are able to be customized to you. There are some studies I believe are complete crap, but to say they all are? No. I'm sure these 'authors' aren't just Joe Shmoe off the street, they kind of know what they're talking about, at least I'd like to think so.0

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[4]"

I say that in response to you saying

bored yes totally agree. I still stand by my opinion...no study on people can be a fact to all based on the common knowledge we are all different and do not operate all the same or respond the same.
You were bored, so you felt like throwing something up here that you knew would raise controversy.0 -

Not all but some possibly shady. LOL I see your point.0 -

Aspirin doesn't kill blood platelets then?

and ya screw wales, and Russians.0 -
and... viruses don't replicate in the human body?
and... bacteria don't invade cells?
Oh my gosh.

No, I was given advice based on studies for years and nothing I was told worked for me. (me personally) When I started listening to only my body and its needs only I was successful. So I gave my opinion on this advice from studies. That is all. If that does not set well with others it does not mean I intentionally started an argument or I am a troll I am not that person! Yes I was bored but that is half of my work day and not the reason.0 -
You're not a troll...
Trolls do stuff like this on purpose.0 -
So I gave my opinion on this advice from studies.
You know what they say about opinions.0 -
I put this in chic chat for a reason. It is chit chat not smear the OP's opinion and call her toll! Some of you are ruthless.
I don't even know why everyone got so mad at my opinion. geeee0 -
and ya screw wales, and Russians.
I wouldn't want to...because of the aforementioned endowment... :laugh:0 -

YES! I totally get it now and since I gave mine I guess I will bare the beating of others. It could be nicer though.0 -

Clearly, one person's opinion trumps scientific studies any day of the week...
Except Sunday. Because that's football day. And that wouldn't be prudent...0 -

Reference to Firefly = WIN! And such a perfect clip :laugh:0 -
So you plan to stop using MFP?
All the info this site is based on comes from studies. You are not all unique, special snowflakes. The human body is remarkably similar across the board. If it weren't medicine would be rather tricky.
*doctor cuts a person open* "Oh my god this one is made completely of jam! If only people weren't all so unique!"
Actually, I am rather unique. I have an oversized heart and liver (congenital from birth, not from any health-related issues), a faulty valve in one of my kidneys (also congenital), and a lipoma in my brain that makes it look like I have a hole in the middle of it on an MRI, along with mild hydrocephaly that thankfully didn't cause any cognitive issues (or maybe that's why I am insane).
I am a SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE, damn you!!!!!
hehehehehehe
(no this post did NOT have a point, I just wanted to INSIST that I am special)
But really, as similar as the human body may be, the MINDS are what is different, and this makes the similar things needed to lose weight VERY different for each individual person. What one person finds easy, another finds impossible...just a thought.0 -

Clearly my opinion is based on my own study of my own body so no matter who or what intelligence who studies Joe Blow their findings on what worked was not fact for me. Would be nice if it did.
so is not fact for me.0 -
