Skinny fat? How about Chubby Fit!!

You've heard of people who are considered "Skinny fat"? That means they are thin but they really aren't in very good shape when it comes to strength, cardio and general fitness. They look nice in tight jeans but probably couldnt do a push up to save their life!

Well I think there should be another term out there for people like me! I consider myself "Chubby fit"! I am still a bigger girl, whittling down my last 25 extra lbs, but I am strong, fit and can probably out run, out squat and out push up alot of girls half my size!

Any other Chubby fitters out there with me?

    hear, hear! I've always thought this. But, what could I know, I'm just a chubber! I've still got (at least) 40lb to go, but I'm down 80lb overall from where I started.

    Not a rarity. There are lots of pro athletes who fit this category.

    The whole "skinny-fat" thing is so ridiculous. They're out of shape! fat is....fat. out of shape and just weak is not fat!

    people with excess weight typically have more muscle in there because they're constantly carrying around said weight.

    Yep, NFL lineman fall in this category. Overall health markers are still bad though.

    Yup, that's the only reason heavier people have muscle. It has nothing to do with them also...I don't know...lifting weights and exercising.

    Skinny-fat is not weak and not fat. It's low absolute weight with a high body fat percentage by comparison.

    Actually skinny fat means they are thin or "normal" by BMI standards, or look thin with cloths on but have a relatively high body fat %. It has very little to do with their strength, cardio or general fitness. That being said, most of those that are skinny fat are typically not strong or fit, but being one does not make you the other, they are not mutually exclusive.

    I am definetly chubby fit! LOL I am still 200lbs, but I lift heavy 3 times a week and workout a total of 6 days a week. I still need to lose weight, but not a big priority at the moment, I look and feel good where I am!

    Thank you! I am 'skinny fat' - a UK size 6 and appear skinny in my clothes but it's all wobbly and flabby looking when naked! However I can run 10k quite easily, squat over half my bodyweight and kickbox you into the next century!

    THANK YOU! I was considering making a post on this same subject. I am totally CHUBBY FIT! I have lost about 45lbs, but I'm still about 8 lbs away from what is considered a normal BMI for my height (I am 6'0, 188lbs, female, large frame). However, in the process of losing those 45lbs I have become an obsessive runner and exerciser. I definitely have gained a lot of muscle as well from doing circuit training, but I still have a big ole' tummy and probably will until I lose 20lbs more.

    Hopefully I will rid myself completely of the "chubby" part and just be fit! But let's celebrate where we are right?!?!?!

    This is me too. Always been active. I can do an hour of cardio at 150-170 bpm without difficulty - strong heart and lungs. I can kickbox like a mofo too. I lift heavy weights twice a week. My cholesterol is about 160. My BP and labs are all excellent. But, I NEED to lose this extra weight -it's unnecessary, and I don't wanna be chubby fit. I'd rather be, say...curvy fit - anyway, I don't really love labels. If you are working on changing and being a healthier person, it doesn't matter what you call it. :)

    Totally chubby fit right here.

    It's so annoying when people at the gym think because I'm working out on a certain machine or at a certain level it must be easy.
    So they hop next to me and try to start some sort of competition (what is with that?) and do the exact same thing.
    I'll have to admit, it is a bit rewarding when I see them get tuckered out and realize it's not quite that easy.

    Well if you look online there are MANY different definitions of skinny fat.

    From: with skinny or normal-sized arms and legs, but with a large stomach and possibly (for men only) fatty breasts.

    To: An ectomorph who needs a good workout routine. LOL

    For the purposes of THIS thread, we will use the definition as follows:

    Skinny fat is a self induced syndrome where an individual is fairly close to their healthy weight, or even at their healthy weight, but they have little if any muscle definition. The sufferer generally doesn’t exercise regularly or is a habitual on and off again exerciser. The sufferer also generally doesn’t follow any type of healthy nutrition plan, rather they eat anything and everything they want. The skinny fat syndrome can and does lead to the sufferer becoming overweight and even obese if the condition is not dealt with. Also, even if the skinny fat sufferer never becomes overweight or obese they ARE at a high risk for obesity related diseases and illnesses.

    Cuz I said so and I am the OP :laugh:

    I am definitely fat now. But in my late teens early 20's I weighed about 210-215 which was at that time 30lbs more than what the army allowed. But I could still go out and run 5 miles at a 5 min pace. So I was definitely chubby fit then because I wasn't muscular at all and My body fat was at 22%-24% always.

    No...I mean they have more muscle than an out of shape skinny person. fat is fat, muscle (or lack there of) is muscle. Over weight people have muscle in there to carry the weight. You can't be a weakling and carry around an extra 100+ pounds on your body. Skinny people need much less muscle mass to get around.

    Sorry but this is so not true. My friend who's about 75 lbs overweight cannot even do a push up. Explain that one.
