That was me! I always said that I was fit but fat! I've since met and exceeded my goal so now I guess I'm just fit:)0

I like my men "chubby fit".. well, fit with a higher body fat percentage.
So does my wife! :drinker:
So why am I trying so hard to be Skinny?
This is for me!! It's my body and I will not rest until I feel comfortable at a healthy weight. My detirmination will get me skinny again. Plus I am setting a healthy example for my kids. They need to see how to live healthy even when life gets complicated!0 -
Not a rarity. There are lots of pro athletes who fit this category.

Yup! Got to meet a couple of pro athletes who fit this description at the Carolina Panthers training camp the last few weeks. The guys who had a higher bodyfat % were pushing just as hard as the super fit guys.0 -
Yeah. I actually mentioned this to my buddy the other day lol. I'm like "You know how there is skinny fat?, Well I am muscle-fat."
I attribute it to the fact i've always played sports and loved them. Such as football and basketball. I run a decent mile for a 300+ pounder, and I am steadily improving my upper body strength each week. I do legs too, but there is little room for improvement. They are pretty jacked from carrying so much weight for so long lol.0 -
The whole "skinny-fat" thing is so ridiculous. They're out of shape! fat is....fat. out of shape and just weak is not fat!
people with excess weight typically have more muscle and fat in there because they're constantly carrying around said weight.
No...I mean they have more muscle than an out of shape skinny person. fat is fat, muscle (or lack there of) is muscle. Over weight people have muscle in there to carry the weight. You can't be a weakling and carry around an extra 100+ pounds on your body. Skinny people need much less muscle mass to get around.
Sorry but this is so not true. My friend who's about 75 lbs overweight cannot even do a push up. Explain that one.
Where did I say they can be able to do a push up? right. Nowhere. How can a person with an extra 75lbs NOT have more muscle mass than someone who is out of shape and only has to carry around 110lbs?
Lets look at this just a little more.
same body frame.
110 lbs.
310 lbs.
Don't you think the person with 310 lbs will have to have MORE muscles JUST to move all that weight? Yeah, I'd think so. at 110lbs, your body doesn't need much muscle mass to simply walk around. Do you really think a 310 lb person can simply stand with low muscle mass?0 -

You said they "can't be a weakling and carry around a 100+ pounds", meaning they're strong. Which is not necessarily true.0 -
According to the all seeing all knowing internet:
Grossly obese individuals (FORBES, 1987; JAMES et al., 1978) may have over 30% more fat-free mass than lean individuals of the same height. In the example shown in Figure 3, the obese individual weighting 140 kg has a fat-free mass that is 29% greater than the 70 kg man. Obese individuals appear to have more muscle and bone than lean individuals, and these help support and move the excess body weight. Obese subjects have large vascular volumes and larger hearts, which are necessary to pump more blood around larger bodies, especially during weight-bearing activities. Obese individuals may also have visceromegaly (NAEYE and ROODE, 1970). Finally, adipose tissue contains about 15% water and 5% protein (SNYDER et al., 1975), so that the presence of excess adipose tissue is associated with excess fat-free tissue (although in obese individuals adipose tissue has a smaller fat-free component than in lean individuals).0 -
I have 26 lbs to go and I am also fit and very strong, in fact stronger than any other women I know that is thin. I had a body scan done and the doctor told me that I have more muscle than most women and some men. I am ok with my size (size 16) but would like to trim my waist of course.0

You physically must have more muscle mass to move a 310 lb body as apposed to a 110 lb body. if you take the basic muscle mass to simply move (nothing else, JUST STAND UP) you *must* have more muscle mass.
the basic muscle mass for daily living is much different when comparing a 110 lb person vrs a 310 lb person. unless the 310lb person is simply sitting and that's it. even if you compare to a 310lb person vs. 110 lb person who simply sit and do absolutely nothing, the 310 lb person STILL must have more muscle mass. simply to breath and support the upper body in a sitting motion.
Go get yourself 2 20lb weight, hold them to your chest and just sit there. see how your fare. it takes muscle. You do realize it takes muscle to breath, right? and if your chest and lungs are fighting against 40 lbs of weight to expand the lungs, it creates enough muscle mass for the body to allow that. It takes more muscle mass to move 40 lbs as apposed to 15 -20 lbs.
If someone has the basic muscle mass to just do the daily routine, neither the 310 person or the 110lb person can do a push up.0 -

You've heard of people who are considered "Skinny fat"? That means they are thin but they really aren't in very good shape when it comes to strength, cardio and general fitness. They look nice in tight jeans but probably couldnt do a push up to save their life!
Well I think there should be another term out there for people like me! I consider myself "Chubby fit"! I am still a bigger girl, whittling down my last 25 extra lbs, but I am strong, fit and can probably out run, out squat and out push up alot of girls half my size!
Any other Chubby fitters out there with me?
Powerlifters?
Strong =/= Fit. Fit people can be strong, and strong people can be fit, but you can be fit and weak, (cardio fitness) or strong and unfit (no cardio conditioning). A lot of super heavy weight power-lifters fit this bill.0 -
Chubby fit indeed!
(UFC fighter Roy Nelson for those who aren't aware)0 -

yeah, now...
he used to gas out after 1 round. he packs power, just like every other fighter in the higher weight classes (though few of them have as much chub as him lol).
Now the newer lighter Big Country... definitely a good example.
edit to add: i'm not disagreeing with you, but i wanted to point out that he had to do a lot of conditioning to get to where he is now and he's still considered chubby fit lol0 -

But he is neither chubby fit, or skinny fat, as BMI has nothing to do with body fat level.0 -
"... BMI has nothing to do with body fat level."
Uh, yeah: it was an appeal to irony, not unlike the thread. Thanks for belaboring the obvious, though.0
