I would like to exchange my father for for a pair of running shoes.
    The shoes sound more supportive.
It would be schadenfreude to laugh about this, but I thought that this was rather clever.

He's a real jerk without any trace of a conscience. I'm glad charges were pressed against him. The judge should order the same punishment for the guy--cut up his feet and hands til they're raw, bang up the rest of him, and leave him for a week on top of that very same mountain with no food, water, or shelter.

Seriously, what kind of god awful individual is willing to trade their pet for a phone??
people who treat their pets as things. people who don't understand that a living creature is LIVING, and that they have assumed responsibility for it until it dies. Basically, people who don't have much of a conscience.

Yup. I can't wrap my mind around treating my pet as a "thing". People who do that make me sick to my stomach.

or the award could go to the POS who left his pit bull on interstate 275 today with only a t-shirt and a bag of food. rescuers from dearborn county (indiana) animal shelter tried to catch and rescue the poor animal, but it was terrified and ran off. they tried to find the poor dog, but they weren't able to. i only hope the owner is punished in a terrible and untimely way.... no one should ever treat an animal like that.

    OMG :(

From the way the ad reads, this ferret comes with a posh ferret hotel. People don't spend that kind of money on their pets, and then mistreat them.

    Actually, they often do.

Honestly, though, I just don't see living creatures as commodities or disposable. This person may not be the worst person in the world, but I don't approve of this at all. And Craig's List is about the worst place to go to find a home for an animal.

    This.

I do foster & rescue and yes, people constantly spend $$$$$$ on animals and then get bored with them and dump them or try to sell them to recoup their costs. I can't even wrap my mind around "trading" a pet for a material object.

It is sad that this seems tame compared to the stories about pit bulls posted on my facebook every day :-(

How dare people accuse pit bulls of being the mean ones.

    I agree.

Reminds me of my old neighbors. They used to have a big dog. It was a Mastiff and it was deaf and blind and they used to keep him tied to a chain in the yard all day and night. No shelter from the heat or the cold or rain. A lot of the time I would bring him water because he didn't have any or he had knocked his bowl over. :(

On another note, why is every British man I know deathly afraid of ferrets biting their, uh, ferret?

Two reasons, one being that in Europe, ferrets are often bred as hunters and not as the cuddly housepets that we breed them for here in the US. The other being that some really...special... guys in the UK play a game that involves putting one of these bred for hunting ferrets down their pants and seeing who can last the longest without screaming.... This is a real thing. I think it's called ferret legging.

IS THAT A FERRET in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?

    lol...........................

    Reminds me of a Shel Silverstein poem;

    One sister for sale!

    One sister for sale!

One crying and spying young sister for sale!

    I’m really not kidding,

    So who’ll start the bidding?

    Do I hear the dollar?

    A nickel?

    A penny?

Oh, isn’t there, isn’t there, isn’t there any

One kid that will buy this old sister for sale,

This crying and spying young sister for sale?

We obtained our dog because some a-hole decided to drop him off at the end of our road the day before a big snow storm was about to hit back in March. Almost every day my husband and I wonder how someone could do something like that to an animal (or child. Doesn't matter which). He's the most sweetest, spastic, loving dog. He's got so much energy and all he wants is to play, be petted and loved. That's it. I swear the only reason he sleeps at night is because he has to LOL.

I know I posted that it was probably a joke but with all the jerks out there I'm sure it's not.

Someone tied a small dog with a jumprope to my old roommate's front porch during a snowstorm a few years ago. He took him in and found him a permanent home. I used to work in an exotic pet store and I left my car unlocked one night and someone left a full grown iguana in my car with a note saying they couldn't keep him anymore. It was freezing and they are cold blooded animals that require heat. People are idiots.

I love me some Shel Silverstein.............................

And, to comment on the subject......not all of us a 'pet people.' I don't want pets, like them, need them, nor have time for them. However, I don't agree with anyone treating them badly..................that's just wrong.

And sorry, people who have pets are not PET PARENTS.........gadz, that's just stupid :noway:

I don't see why this trade is so bad. If someone has an iPhone and wants a ferret in exchange, win win.

Now child sex trafficking and pornography, that I get absolutely livid about.

Ok. I get facing a left or death situation and having to leave your dog. I would be in tears and hysterical as I walked away. I love my dogs more than most people and probably boardline too much in comparison with my hsuband and daughter. However, there would be nothing on this Earth that could stop me from going back to rescue her/them. It really makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about it now.
