It is my understanding that your period can stop or be irregular if you are exercising very heavily. It can also stop if you are not getting enough to eat. Are you netting at least 1200 calories at the end of the day. If I were in your situation, I'd just go buy a test kit and put my mind at ease. If the same thing happens next month--I'd give a call to my doc.

I went on a heavy exercise program last Spring and the next month I had off and on spotting with cramping for 19 days that started around mid-cycle, something that had never happened to me before. I eventually went to my gyno convinced something was seriously wrong and he gave me a very thorough checkup and found I was not pregnant and perfectly totally normal. He said it probably was the exercise, nothing more. Everything went back to normal the next month.

I would take a home test. If you are worried it can keep you from getting it. Make sure you are eating enough and getting all your nutrients in Fat, Crabs and protein. I would see a Dr if it happens next month. If you are doing crazy diets and cutting out all fat and your body shuts down the first to go is the reproductive system because your body dose not need it to live.

Take a test just so you know right away if that's the problem. If it isn't that, your body definitely could be responding to a lot of exercise all of a sudden.

Heavy exercise especially combined with diet could cause your period to be late. I have had that happen before. The only thing you can do is wait hun. I know, the waiting game sucks! Good luck to you

I would take a test. I got pregnant while using birth control, super sperm! And light spotting can be implantation bleeding. Just get an early detection test and to be safe, get a two pack and test again if you go more than a week or two late.

When I suffered from anorexia in HS (not saying you are) and was exercising all the time I never had my period... if you have a negative preggers test I'd recommend going to the doctor.

I have been working out and eating right for aout 4 months. For the past three months I havent had a period and I know Im not pregnant. This happened to me to a lesser degree the last time I changed diet and exercise. I too am also on birth control. The longer you are on the bc the lighter your periods get anyway.....Ive been on it over 5 years...plus the diet and exercise change have caused it to go adios.....nothing to worry about, but if you are sexually active, cant hurt to take a test.

However, any amount of bleeding, be it spotting, heaving bleeding, or even dead old brown blood junk (ladies you know what Im talking about), counts as a period....so said my doctor anyway thelast time I consulted with her on this problem.

I have the same problem at the moment! Well actually... mine was lost for about 5 months, completely, no spotting or anything. Just came back last week. The condensed version of what my doctors told me is that "hormones are fat soluble, so once your body hits a fat percentage lower than it has ever had, the hormones need time to catch back up." It's not normal in everybody, but it is fairly common among professional athletes and people losing weight. They recommend you get a healthy dose of iron and calcium (as not having your period can cause calcium to not be absorbed as well) and usually just wait it out. HOWEVER I would see a doctor, because if you don't have what I have, there may be an underlying condition causing this. Look up secondary amenorrhea. That's what it's called. (I think it's funny that it's called AMENorrhea). Anyways, add me and PM me if you would like to talk more. This freaked me out to no end, so I have seen 2 specialists, a gyno, and my primary care physician all about this problem. :]

Again, let me make this clear, GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR. This is just my case, and I wanted you to know that you are not alone in this problem.

**Edit to add that they also recommend that I up my calories and exercise one less day per week to give my body a little more time to catch up with itself**

I don't think 30 DS is enough to cause a missed period, by itself. But if you're eating at a very large deficit, that (along with the exercise) might. But I wouldn't just pass it off on that until you've ruled out everything else.

What kind of birth control are you on? Some of them can lead to missed periods (Mirena did that for me).

If there is any chance you are pregnant (you had sex this cycle, whether or not you used the birth control perfectly), I would test. You can get a cheap test at Wal-Mart, or even the dollar store, and they will work pretty well. Light spotting can actually be caused by implantation, and depending on the type of birth control, there could be increased risks of problems if you do get pregnant.

Once you rule out pregnancy, I would give it another month. If you still don't get a period, I would say it's time to call your doctor and rule out other causes (PCOS, hormone imbalance, poor nutrition, etc … there's a lot of things that could cause this)

If you're over training and not eating enough it most certainly can stop or knock you off of your cycle. I would see a doc, esp if you suspect pregnancy b/c I'm not sure how accurate a drugstore test would be if you're on the pill
  • Sweety take the test cause it could be your going to have a baby and I could be wrong but see your doctor and see what he or she tells you I was having my periods and I was with child course I told my doctor he waas dumb cause I was having my periods course I was very much pregant with my son....Later while talking to my Mama I found out that she as well was having her periods while pregrant with me.....So just go and see your doctor not everybody is the same our body systems are differant.....

My doctor told me that exercise can cause missed or irregular periods, but that has to be pretty extreme exercise, which I don't think 30DS is. Not eating enough can cause it too - or stress...there are a lot of things.

    Take the test!

Eating under 1200 calories and exercising could mean that your body isn't getting enough nutrients (not just calories, but vitamins, calcium, iron, and all the other good things that are in food that you can't get in a vitamin pill). This could definitely be the culprit.

Most tests, even the cheap ones, are at least 95% accurate on the first day of a missed (late) period. So since you're already late, it's not too early to test!

I bet shes underweight and has lower fat than necessary.

OP can you give us some stats?

    Age
    Height
    weight
    body fat%
    occupation
    workout routine
How long you have dieted for

I'm guessing that her hormonal response is due to lower fat% and excessively low dieting.

You need to eat more! At the VERY LEAST you should have 1200 calories a day!

I started a new program which was more intense that what I had previously been doing - my body was pissed off, and I missed it for 2 months (first time was non-existent, second was spotty but nothing to write home about). Third month , back to normal. it was kind of like my body had to get used to what I was doing to it, and it "re-booted".

If you think you might be pregnant, definitely get to a doctor and/or take a test to be sure. if there's no way you could be, then I'd give it a few months to see how your body reacts. Anything longer than that though, and I'd check with a doctor. :-)

    According to the info provided:

BMR 1622 so if you are eating below this and not eating back calories you are under eating.
TDEE 2514 is how much you burn in a day appx. Anything eaten below this will result in fat loss to an extent.
If you cut too low youll burn lean mass as well.
Sometimes this can cause issues such as toxicity from EFAs or FFA that cause the body to harbor fat.
You are in the Obese 1 category.
This means that you wont build any lean mass by working out so you should do everything in your power to maintain what you have.
30DS is probably not the proper workout for you.
Suggesting weight training or body weight workouts at home.
    http://jasonferruggia.com/top-20-bodyweight-exercises-for-building-muscle-strength/

If you have access to a gym I suggest www.stronglifts.com.
Dont worry about cardio because SL5x5 will get the heart pumping and the fat melting in no time.

Suggested NET calories per day: 2000
Protein and fat set to 30% each for help with fat metabolism.

So if you decide to use this number you wont have to eat back any calories.
If you decide to do it MFPs way you should shoot for 2k every day you workout.

This number at your size should produce between 1-2lb a week lost to fat and water.
LBM would be retained so long as you lift heavy ****.

PM me if you have any Qs.

    =D

Generally, you have to have your body fat % drop quite low to have periods stop. But diet and exercise does have some effect on hormones, so it is possible that the sudden changes has caused it. But the advice you have gotten is solid. First rule out pregnancy and then go from there.

I know everyone's body is different, but I have never, ever had an issue with my period due to exercise. At one point I was working out two times a day, doing Insanity and lifting weights. BUT I have missed it due to pregnancy.

If you have been sexually active, take a pregnancy test once your period is officially late. It will put your mind at ease. You don't need to go to the doctor really. You can buy one from the dollar store. They work just fine, trust me.

I've really been ramping up my exercise, and last month my period was about a week late and SO light. Honestly, it was great- my periods are really heavy for the first 3 days so it was a nice change. I'm wondering how it will be this month though.
