Howdy!
You know way back when, those yoga poses with my kitties? Now it's developing into a short youtube type film. I better get in shape before January. I'll be working on my hamstrings so I can do the cat licking butt pose.
Rode my bike and did some yoga yesterday. Today is more yoga and a walk on the treadmill.
I went all last week without dessert. I also had some maybe good news today, though I shouldn't say it like that. The organizer at the gym where I teach yoga is leaving. I really hope she's replaced by someone better. It's funny to read all the "reply all" emails that the teachers are circulating "oh, we are so sorry you're leaving" etc. - was I the only one that felt she was inept? I'm mean, I know.
Thanksgiving is a comin', boogaloo!

Just a quick check-in so I can find the post later.
(as my goals this week include not checking in here until I have actual reporting of working out)0 -

Well, I am still down on the scale so I guess it's official! I did have dessert last night. We went to Rita's again. We had a coupon and it had been a week since I ate all that junk.
Oh, Alex dropped a toy down the stairs on accident. Now he's not talking because it upset him. Poor kid.
Anyway, today's goals are: to log my food, taebo or Shred, clean and do laundry.
Either today or tomorrow I have to go to the library and the store. I am avoiding the stores if possible on Wednesday!
I'd better get busy. I've been a lazy bum so far.
How about every day this week we list something we are thankful for? I am thankful for my pebbles!
Being thankful boogaloo!
MM0 -
Hmm, Mary - not sure I need to see that pose!
V - an apple too sweet? Amazing! I am definitely thankful for you guys.
Successful weekend in terms of cleaning and babysitting. And I did reward myself with a cupcake for my dessert. The house is pretty much clean except for our bedroom.I was adding it up while I drove in this morning, and I think I did about 16 hours of cleaning over the weekend. :noway: I am sore, so maybe it counts for something. The girls had fun coming over, and the older one didn't want to leave (she said to her parents when they came to pick them up, "No, you have to leave! I want to sleep here!" ). I managed to get one box of books together for donation (where did you sell yours, Mary?), and three huge bags of clothes. Two will be dropped off for donation, and one I will try to consign (nicer work-type attire that is just way too big now). It's a start! (considering I really haven't thrown out anything for about 10 years ). I also had my husband take the classic "look how big my old pants were!" picture, which I while try to upload tonight.
My parents just called and said they won't be here until tomorrow, and my MIL doesn't arrive until late, so I have time to stay a bit late at work (so hopefully I won't have to the rest of the week while they are visiting), do a workout, and do some more laundry. The goals for the week are:
* Sane food intake - moderate portion sizes, and focus on fruits/veggies
* 2 workouts - I don't think I can manage much more with company and having to go to work
* Pushups 3x - hopefully I can do these in the bedroom without an audience
I met all my goals last week except for the last day of pushups - I was so worn out on Saturday and Sunday that I just didn't get them in. I'm ready for my weekend now! :ohwell:
Still thankful boogaloo! :flowerforyou:0 -
The pose I'm talking about is Sundial. A version is pictured on my avatar.
I sold my books at Half Price Books. Many used bookstores buy books though.0 -
I am grateful for my pebbs!
Goals for the week: 1. no dessert, alcohol, or wheat until my dinner party on Saturday. Actually am not craving these things, but I am looking forward to a butter laced nightmare called "gooey cake" I'm going to make for the party, as well as a turducken I've ordered from the butcher, and the copious amount of green bean casserole (with my own homemade mushroom soup I have in the freezer for the occassion) I intend to eat.
2. Sticking to one meal a day that is only fruits and vegetables (I like this because it gives me some calorie leeway and it's just plain good for me)
3. Sticking to the workouts on workout days, no matter what (even if it feels sissified to me, like "only" a long walk)
Just got back from the WOTD: a totally new thing for me: sprints. The idea is, you run flat out as fast as you can for twenty-thirty seconds at a time, then rest for 2 min. Repeat until 2 mins is no longer enough recovery time. I managed 8. After the 8th one I thought to myself "when will I know that 2 min. is not enough recovery time?" Then I tried the 9th time and my legs went "uh-uh. no way. not gonna happen."
I walked to the park and back (about 20 minutes each way), too. While at the park, I noticed that this is how dogs and children exercise. Whenever a dog or a child was let off the leash (so to speak. . .the children weren't actually on leashes:laugh: ) the first thing they did was run flat out.
Reliving my childhood boogaloo.:flowerforyou:
Oh, and I have a big pile of DVDs and books I've been meaning to take to the re-sale store. I think I'll add actually getting them out of the house as goal #4. I'm inspired by you guys.0 -
Howdy!
- was I the only one that felt she was inept? I'm mean, I know.
You're not mean, you're honest. I would be willing to bet that all the "we'll miss you!" stuff is either just being nice to be nice, or she was a "play favourites" kind of individual, and they'll miss her because she was always not inept in their direction.0 -
Just an update. Cleaned the bathrooms, kitchen, and the living room (though you can't really tell since I have a child.
). I also did the Tae bo rocking buns and OW! I am in really bad shape. But I did it. All 45 minutes. I may not have gotten as low on the squats but I made it through. My upper body has been sore so I am giving it a break. I'll work on it tomorrow when I can't move my lower half.
Have y'all checked out the new design? What do you think? It's not a big deal but it will take a few days to get used to it.
Polar Express scared Alex like the day after he got the video, so he hasn't wanted to watch it, even though he's watched it at least 15 times. So I am sitting here "watching" it with him to help him get over it. He's a tender little guy.
MM0 -
I prefer the old design (the new one seems... big), but, c'est la vie. I don't log my food much anymore, so I really only need the forums.
Mary, I liked your cat pictures before - you'll have to share when the video is done! We just donated our books to the library - a bunch of them were rather obscure books I had from college classes (books on the KGB or Soviet gender politics, anyone? ) that probably would have been tough (or, time-consuming) to sell.
Good job on the workouts, MM and V. Is that a good video, MM? I need something for my buns - my co-workers keep telling me that my pants are too baggy. I am heading home and will probably do some DDR and pushups when I get there. And laundry!0 -
I'm adding scrubbing the kitchen (including the floors in a weird squat crab walk fashion) to my workout of the day.
Time for some sofa time boogaloo!0 -
CP, the video is pretty good. It's a lot of variations on squats and lunges as well as other exercises like kicking and floor exercises for the behind. I wonder if you could find parts of it on Youtube so you can see if you like it or not. I hadn't done it in forever, so it was a good work out for me.
MM0 -
Cool, maybe I will put it on a wishlist or something. I have some problems with lunges, though - hard on my knees. :ohwell:
I did a 50 minute DDR workout on 'heavy', which is the hardest level (I normally only do 'standard', which is in the middle). Wow! I missed a lot of the steps, but the nice thing about workout mode is that it just keeps going - you can't lose. I didn't wear my HRM, but the calorie counter on the game said 800! It was probably more like 500, but I sure was dripping by the end of it. And I just did my pushups, and hubby should be on the way back from the airport now with my mother-in-law (who I get along well with). Let Thanksgiving week begin! :bigsmile:0 -
I am grateful for the feeling of having my workout (a yoga for strength DVD) finished before 9 am.
Today, I have lots to do (more dinner party prep). I realized that I have get-togethers so that I'll clean. (really clean, not just surface clean). Today is more cat hair hunting (a.k.a. vacuuming) and general scrubbing. If the weather clears, I may also try to get a commuter walk in, rather than take the bus. I also intend to go to the kitchen supply store, which is conveniently located next door to the used book/DVD store. Before I moved up here, I seriously reduced my amount of books, and now wish I had more bookshelf walls (my apartment is weird in that it doesn't have a lot of wall space for this sort of thing). I reduced WAY down, and really feel like a lot of these books are important to own for my future as a prof (positivity!), but I'm sure there's a few that could go today. . .
Getting rid of all that is not me boogaloo!:flowerforyou:
p.s. Mary, I have a downward dog question. My inner elbows feel wobbly during this pose, and I'm not sure if I should concentrate on facing the inner elbows forward or rotating them inward. . .not sure that that makes sense, but maybe you can help? I have an old repetitive stress injury (that seems to be mostly healed) in my right shoulder, if that makes any difference. Thanks for any help you can offer.0 -
I. am. so. sore. today. lol. And for that I am thankful today. That buns DVD works the right areas, that's for sure!
CP, I have a hard time with lunges bothering my knees too, but I noticed that the more I do (squats too) the stronger my knees seem to be getting. I have read that strong quads help support the knees. ? Not many people can say they get along with the MIL, so that is a blessing. I get along with mine (for the most part), and that was one of things I prayed about before marrying: that I would get along with in-laws!
V, I'm the same way about needing get-togethers to get the house clean. Good for you getting your work out done early. Wish I could do that but my mornings are too crowded for that. It happens during naptime now.
I have noticed that since the dryer is venting into the house I am sweating a whole lot more on my work outs. The more you sweat, the more you burn right?
Today Alex has tumbling class, then I have to go to the library and store. Alex has asked if I will "hang the Christmas tree up on the wall" today. I had told him that we would put it up soon, so I guess that means it hangs on the wall. So I am going to attempt to rearrange the living room this morning to try to do that. I won't decorate it yet, except put lights on. That's what he cares about anyway. I also need to try to get some kind of work out in if I can move. Oh and I need to start packing today in case DH calls me tomorrow at noon and says he's getting off early. If he doesn't get off early we'll be leaving for San Antonio Thursday morning.
Loving the holidays boogaloo!

I have an old repetitive stress injury (that seems to be mostly healed) in my right shoulder, if that makes any difference. Thanks for any help you can offer.
The inner elbows rotate forward (they don't reach forward) - this engages the triceps and opens the shoulders - which could be why you feel wobbly. You can also think of rotating the triceps in, but it's usually harder to imagine. The thing to focus on is pressing down with the base of your fingers and feeling that pressure extend up your arms. Also fun to do: imagine different parts of the shoulder blades coming into the back (there are different movements to bring the upper, middle, and lower parts in).
To find out if it's your shoulders or your arms - do dolphin instead (http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/2462 if you don't know what I'm talking about - except keep the hands as far apart as the elbows as shown) - do you feel shaky? Probably your shoulders, if not, probably your arms.0 -
I am thankful for so many things. Everywhere I look, I see something to be thankful for: from the kitty in my lap, to my cup of coffee, to my pebbles right here. I sometimes think about us all getting together too :flowerforyou:
Yesterday: biked to yoga and walked twice.
Today: too cold for me to bike (53 degrees  ) - so I'm going to the gym and then I have hard yoga later - hope my body is up for it.
We are off to big D tomorrow - with everyone else - you have the right idea MM, leaving Thursday morning - but I would miss my workout if we did that
Thankful, boogaloo!0 -
Thanks, Mary. I will definitely experiment with dolphin pose. I do find that my shoulder is much stronger these days (hadn't done that particular DVD in a long while, and used to spend a lot of it in child's pose when I was "supposed" to be in down dog.)
Update on sprint workout: My legs/butt/and hip flexors feel as if I did approximately 1,000 squats and lunges yesterday. I am amazed at what less than five minutes (total) of high speed running can do. Ouchness.0 -
Morning pebbs,
Today's a scheduled day off, but I have to finish the cleaning that I've been putting off, and if there's no rain, walk to the kitchen store for some things (about an hour of walking round trip). If it's raining, I'll have to grab the bus.
Also, new blog post. It's a little "preachier" than usual. . .but I've been getting angry at the boards. (well, angry is a strong word) and needed to reflect on some things.
How did my day off get busier than my day on? Boogaloo!:flowerforyou:
p.s. CP, I have been walking around the house yelling "mukluk" in order to amuse myself.
edited to add:
Today, I am grateful for the fact that I can afford to throw a dinner party without worrying that I will bankrupt myself. I realized that when I was thinking about what to prepare, money anxiety didn't enter in. Our incomes are teeny (actually legally below the poverty line for this city) but I never, ever feel deprived. I think it's because, thank God, I feel like I don't NEED anything. Such a far cry from my twenties, in which I managed money terribly and bought a bunch of shoes and purses thinking they would bring me peace, even at the expense of bouncing the rent cheque. I guess I'm also grateful that I'm no longer twenty. REALLY grateful.0 -
I stepped on the scale again this morning. I figured better to check today than like next Monday! I have lost five pounds so far! I am 2 pounds away from the 140's! I'm so excited! I told hubby and he said to make sure it doesn't come back this weekend. Since AF is coming I'm going to try to get him to hide the scale for at least a week, so I won't get discouraged.
Today is kind of up in the air. Alex has horse therapy, and I'm going to meet with my friend. Then I need to clean house and pack. I don't know if we are leaving tonight or tomorrow morning yet. Depends on when Steve gets off and what he feels like doing. So depending on all that I may try to get a work out in.
Mary, I am assuming you are coming up I-35? We came home from SA over Thanksgiving that way and it took us over 8 hours to get home! We made it from SA to Waco in bumper to bumper traffic and then gave up. We found hwy 6 and went to 281 (We lived in Wichita Falls at the time), and now that's usually the way we go. 281 is a little out of your way though. I hope traffic isn't too horrible for you today!
I'd better get to it. Lots to do!
Gobble gobble boogaloo! That's a turkey, not me eating a lot!)

p.s. CP, I have been walking around the house yelling "mukluk" in order to amuse myself.
I started to post yesterday, but got busy and forgot to finish. Yesterday I was thankful for my family - my parents arrived last night, and I really am thankful for them. They even encouraged me to go to my dance class because they didn't want me to miss it on account of them. And my MIL made dinner. I am lucky. :smooched:
Today is only a half-day at work (yay!) so I'd better get moving. Lots to do. In other news, if this were last week, I would have already had my dessert for the week just in licking the batter from the chocolate mousse pie I made last night. But I am still planning not to overeat or go crazy in general for the week - even though I will end up with more than one dessert serving. And even the pie is tofu-based (shhhh!), so it isn't so bad. (And V, I liked the blog - and don't worry, I made the pie because it's tasty and super easy, and I will enjoy my small piece.)
Good luck to everyone who is driving somewhere - stay safe boogaloo! :flowerforyou:0 -
Congrats, MM! Yeah, I-35. We could take FM 308, but it would really slow us down, I think. We have husband's iphone, so we'll follow that. I remember one weekend we went to Dallas - I couldn't figure out why there was so much traffic - especially young people from UT - well, it was Texas/OU weekend - I think we did that 3 times before we started avoiding going up at that time.
Today, I'm going to yoga class in the morning, having Vegan Thanksgiving at a veggie restaurant for lunch, then donating blood. I figure these are all ways to show gratitude and have fun. I've only tried to donate blood once - my veins wouldn't cooperate, so we'll see how this goes. Then it's up to Big D - and hopefully, dinner with the family tonight. We'll all be on the same road, so we should all get there at the same time.
I'll gone until Saturday, but might get a chance stop by MFP.
Thanksgiving time, boogaloo!0 -
Forgot to post what I am thankful for! I have a hard time thinking of just one! I am thankful that there's food on the table, a roof over my head, the bills are paid, and that God always provides every single thing I need (and some times He gives me things I want to!).
V, I liked your blog. Very moving. Helped me refocus. Thanks for sharing.
Now I really must get off here!
MM0 -
Mary, this is probably too late to be helpful, but I have tricky veins as well. The best thing that I have learned is to donate later in the day after focusing on hydration all day.
I just remembered that I need to do my pushups tonight! And I am thankful that my body can do all the wonderful things it can do - including pushups.0 -
Morning!
I realize that most of you won't be checking in today, but Happy Thanksgiving anyways. . .
For me, it's just Thursday.
I'm about to do a weights workout, then I have about a million other things to do (haircut, grocery shopping for Saturday, food planning [as in when/how to cook what], more cleaning that I keep putting off, lecture planning, a gallery opening and choir practice.) Good gravy, I'm exhausted from writing all of that.
I am thankful today that I'm well enough to even consider doing all of those things.
Gratitude Boogaloo!:flowerforyou:0 -
I posted earlier but it didn't stick. Happy Thanksgiving!
So I ate a little too much but I didn't do as bad as I could have. Planning to go hiking tomorrow so hopefully I can work it off. This trip has been super hard on Alex for some reason, so it hasn't been a very pleasant trip. We are managing though. Check in again soon!
MM0 -
Good morning (barely), pebbles! I am at work today. :grumble: But I had a pretty nice Thanksgiving, and am hoping that they'll let me go a little bit early this afternoon. The food was tasty, and I didn't stuff myself - although I probably had a little more bread than was really required. I managed to get my pushups in on Wednesday, and took a walk with my mom yesterday afternoon. Tonight I hope to do pushups again, and I may sneak in a walk this afternoon if things are quiet around here. The roads sure were empty on the way in this morning!
Because I don't think I mentioned him specifically, I just want to add that I am extremely thankful for my husband. It's hard to believe that I "deserve" as much love and support as much as he gives me, but I certainly am grateful for it. He has always loved me at any size!
Mushy holiday boogaloo. :flowerforyou:0 -
Today is going better for the little guy. My fam watched him so steve and I could go hiking. Hiked 2.5 miles or so. Doesn't sound like much but it was strenuous part of the way. Took about 3 hours with breaks. Ill post on fb at some point. Hope you all are having a good weekend!
MM0 -
Hi pebbs,
Today was a scheduled day off, and I took it. Had a very high-energy teaching day, and have to do a bit of cleaning this eve. Also, I have to make dessert for tomorrow and not eat any of it. Tricky.
Baking boogaloo!:flowerforyou:0 -
Today is the big dinner party. I am excited and a wee bit nervous. It started with a guest list of 5-7. I am now expecting 15 folks. Luckily, I've embraced my southern roots and planned for too much food, plus a potluck.
Today, it's a walk to the liquor store for ingredients for highly alcoholic swedish mulled wine, and a last minute vacuum binge, plus cooking and cleaning the bathroom.
Busy, busy, busy.
And, absolutely no calorie counting.
Wish you all could come. (or, since I'm being southern, Ya'll)
Bounteous Boogaloo!:flowerforyou:0 -
Aw, that would be fun, V! Good luck with your party. I'd be a wee bit nervous myself, but I'm sure it will be great.
Good for you on the hike, MM. I've been really light on exercise this week, but I expected it. (I did do all my pushups, though - yeah!) I've also eaten a fair bit more than usual. My mother-in-law left us this morning with about 4 loafs of bread that she baked, plus a huge pot of soup and some other leftovers from a few nights ago. Oh, and she managed to do a load of laundry this morning before she left. :noway: All good stuff, though. My parents will be here for another couple of days.
Today is hanging out/family time, since I've had to work this week and haven't had as much of a chance. I see games in my future! If it weren't so blowy, we might go for a walk, but it seems rather frigid. Oh well - at least I did my pushups!
Relaxing weekend boogaloo. :flowerforyou:0 -
Yeah the "diet" thingis not happening this weekend. I'm not worried. DH hid the scale for me. It may take me a week to get back on track but I'll do it. My family has had enough leftovers to have 4-5 meals off of. And I have no self control! But it's all good. I'm going to try to get on the treadmill this afternoon and at least walk, maybe jog. I'll have to do it in front of people so I don't know. My sis wants to go get a few things and I hate shopping but I haven't spent much time with her so I will go.
Not much other news here I guess.
V, your party sounds fun! I hope it goes off smoothly for you!
CP, good for you sticking with your push ups!
We're headed back tomorrow so I don't know if I'll get a chance to check in till Monday. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
