SBF2 Reboot Boogaloo! Thanksgiving week

A great success! The turducken took two hours longer to roast than the butcher's directions said it would. . .but people had brought pre-dinner food at my request and I was plying my guests with fortified mulled wine, so everyone was happy.
Also, I think I burned a million calories between cleaning and cooking. When I finally stopped moving, I thought of my old restaurant worker days. . .my feet were sore and my muscles were sore and I was stinky sweaty and exhausted. No wonder that was my skinniest time period. The next party I throw, I'm ordering in. (I had a great time cooking, but got to spend almost no time with the guests. . .) Also, I didn't like dessert! (again, who is this person?) Even though I reduced the sugar in my recipe by one half, it was still almost sickeningly sweet to me. I consider this a massive victory! So, next week's dessert will have to be something I make myself with agave or honey or maple, I guess. There's one bakery in town that concentrates on the butter more than the sugar, so it might be something from there. . .or I could roll it over again, and save up for Christmas. I'm not really missing it.
Also, while trying to run to catch the bus yesterday, I pulled a quad muscle. Dang. They've been sore since the sprints, and I did squats on Thursday while they were still a bit sore. So, I've been doing some hobbling. I'm going to try a stretchy yoga practice today to try to loosen it up. Also, there will be two walks to church and back today, as there's an advent service with carols this eve. (it's my favorite service of the year. .. candlelit and entirely sung)
I'm grateful that I'm not really craving the foods I'm trying to restrict right now. (even though Thanksgiving's over. . .I'm going to try to keep being grateful for a thing every day)

I'm back. Had 4.5 desserts total - 3.5 worth while. The point five is a cookie after the less than stellar dessert. The chocolate goo from the hotel was divine - so much so, I considered staying for lunch just to order more dessert. Also in the awesome category were: the mint cupcake last night, the dark, dark, chocolate after dinner bonus at the hotel (the first night when we didn't order dessert), and the chocolate chip cookies sent up to the room (my .5 dessert, only had one + a bite). The crap dessert was at a Vegas looking hotel called the Gaylord Resort - I thought it was the only dessert I was going to have, so I ate 1/2 of it. Silly me. I think it was because it was Thanksgiving and I turned down all other sweets that day. Well, sort of - lunch at in-laws is almost all sweet, for those that haven't had southern cooking - a salad has coconut, canned oranges and pineapple - sweet potatoes are made with brown sugar - you get the idea.
So that's my novel on food. Watched "King Baby" - Jim Gaffigan last night - if you like food humor, rent it today.
Got exercise everyday, but it was on the light side. Today: 2.5 hour yoga class with hard teacher - scary stuff. A short bike ride as well.

Yep, I pulled out my grandma's old chess cake recipe, and the gooey topping called for 1.5 POUNDS of powdered sugar. I used half of that. . .and it was still crazy sweet. I have all her old, handwritten recipes (I love these) and everything (including vegetable dishes. . .) calls for sugar, molasses or sugar and molasses! And yep, she specialized in "ambrosia fruit salad" with coconut, canned oranges, pineapple and some (a lot) of sugar. Also, pralines, which are almost all sugar and "divinity fudge" which is essentially like eating powdered sugar by the spoonful. I was an overstimulated child in the sweets department. . .

Back home now, trying to recover and get back into better eating. I pretty much broke every rule in the diet book. :ohwell: I know I can get back on track pretty quickly, but the next few days are going to be tough. Once I have junk, I crave it for awhile. It doesn't help (but it's an excuse for my fat) that AF is taking her sweet little time getting here. I hope once it's gone I will be back to at least where I was before the weekend, weight wise. Thankfully I won't be at my parents as long during Christmas, so I won't be tempted as much. I have NO self control! I did manage to get on the treadmill a couple of times, even ran. That was kind of fun. Made me want a treadmill. :frown: No room and we can't afford it. DH said he wants to go walking (I'll have to jog. I'm like a Chihuahua next to a Golden Retriever, trying to keep up) every night this week. He wants to help me so bad. I need to buy Alex a winter hat since it's going to be cold all week. I'd like to go walk/jog every night. That would be great!
Trying to make cheap healthy foods over the next couple of days. Money is tight. Tomorrow is a trip to the store and a guy is coming out to price replacing the kitchen window. I will also try to get Taebo in and some cleaning.
It's good to be back. I need to get off here. See you tomorrow! Hope you all had a good weekend!

Yeah, I pretty much went dessert crazy this weekend. Two pieces of my tofu chocolate pie, two servings of apple crumble (basically apples bakes with a brown sugar and pecan topping) with ice cream, a couple of cookies, and a couple of random pieces of candy. It was all really good, though - except for the cookies and the candy, which weren't really worth it. Yikes - I think I should be pretty good until Christmas!
I used to love that fruit salad - my mom always used to make it. I'm not so sure that sour cream and pineapple and mandarin oranges and coconut constitute a "salad", though. Pralines really are too sweet, but I liked them for the nuts. I can't remember if I ever had divinity, though we have a family fudge recipe. Almost all of us have huge sweet tooths (teeth?). Never have tried sweet potatoes with brown sugar, though - that just seems unnecessary. They're so sweet already!
Back to the gym tomorrow boogaloo!0
