Green Smoothies

So a few weeks a go my wonderful husband bought me a Blendtec (super blender) and I love it. The idea that I can just push a button and it blends it all is amazing to me! That thing blends everything. My favorite smoothie by far is banana, blueberry and spinach. YUM!!!

Other then that though, I have no ideas for Green smoothies, or other smoothies for that matter.

If you have some great smoothie recipes please let me know. I love the idea of the green ones because they are so healthy, not to mention, they curve my huge sweet tooth :0).

    I use....

    2 banana's
    2 Kiwi's
    2 pears
    1 cup blueberries
    1 Tablespoon honey
15ml aloe vera juice ( optional, changes the flavour instantly so upto you if you can't handle it )
    1 - 2 cups spinach
    pinch of cinnamon
    1-2 cups ICE
    1-2 cups cold water

Lasts me 2 days, really refreshing and great for detoxifying your body & muscle recovery. :)

To be honest, just try different things add a mango inside instead of kiwi's etc.

my favorite is spinach bluberries bananna and pinapple. I have that one 3 or 4 days a week and then mix it up the other days. I buy fresh fruit once a month and then frezze it all. Using the frozen fruit makes it icey cold and gives it the smoothie consistency I love.
  • I use
    2-3 handfuls of spinach
    half an apple
1 scoop of protein powder (I use strawberry or vanillia)
    Pumpkin seeds
    water/ ice
    (sometimes I add greek yoghurt)

    130g spinach
    85g broccoli
    2 scoops of protein
    2 tbsp ground flax seeds
1 cup (8oz) unsweetened almond milk
    2 cups water
    140g frozen blueberries

Makes a really really really big breakfast. No, I cant taste the broccoli (that's why I put it in there, I hate broccoli).
I tried eating half one day and half the next, but the spinach (and maybe the broccoli?) starts smelling and tasting weird after 1 day in the fridge

    I've been making kale smoothies..
    1 cup chopped kale
1 tbsp peanut butter (or .5 cup frozen berries)
    .5 cup greek yogurt
    .5 banana
    water/ice as needed
  • I change my smoothies every day depending on what's in my fridge! But, generally I'll use:

    1 banana
1/4 -1/2 avocado (depending on size)
    1/4 mango
Handful of kale or spinach or any salad leaves I have
    2 tablespoons natural plain yoghurt
Enough water to make your desired consistency

I sometimes add berries, kiwi, melon and/or pineapple if I have any. I've even tried cucumber with great results! I'm going to try grated carrot next...

I find that adding the avocado prevents that mid-morning snack craving, so I can hold out until lunch better.

Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Natural Casein, French Vanilla- scoop
Trader Joe's Non-fat Plan Greek Yogurt- 1/2 cup
    2-3 handfuls spinach
Frozen Fruit (either blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, or raspberries)- 1/4 cup
    Banana- whole
Trader Joe's Chia Seeds- 1 Tbsp
Trader Joe's Rolled Oats- 1/2 cup (optional, I rarely use these)
  • Usually I do the fruity thing but my favorite is:

    2 oz. kale
    1 large banana
    1 tbsp peanut butter

I like to have this on Friday mornings as a reward for getting through the week. Haha.

Swiss Chard, Dandelion Greens, Parsley, Cabbage, bok choy, beet greens/Berries, Banana, Mango, Pear, Peaches, nectarines/water, coconut water

Mix n Match! Green smoothies are delicious. Any green mixed with banana for the most part will taste like a banana.

Raw kale is very nutritious but a tad bitter so you have to pick your fruits well to balance it.

Not to sound stupid but can you use a regular blender and get good results or must you use a smoothie mixer?

With a regular blender, you just need to watch your frozen to liquid proportions. For instance, with my recipe, in a regular blender just use fresh strawberries and spinach and really cold water. Should still work fine.

I use my regular cheapie blender that they were giving away at the casino one day. Works fine for my frozen berries and frozen broccoli, and or the occasional couple of ice cubes.

BTW, frozen spinach is cheap and good to have a bag in the freezer on hand in case you run out of the fresh
  • bump. going to buy a smoothie maker on the weekend, cant wait to get blending now :P

    Hello from Chicago!

Just started drinking GREEN SMOOTHIES this week after my "Magic Bullet" arrived.
Is there a Group in MFP for drinkers of Green Smoothies?

    1 C soy milk
1/2 C frozen no sugar added strawberries
1 banana (I freeze mine so the smoothie is extra thick)
    1 handfull of spinach
    1 tbsp creamy peanut butter

This is my favorite :) The peanut butter adds a lot of calories but soooo worth it!!! I make the same thing for my 20 month old son except with lactaid and he loves it too!

I use a regular blender... it just needs a little encouragement from time to time lol! I have to let it blend for a few minutes untill it gets creamy but it works :)

If your veggies are frozen too, you get a better result. I work at at a vegan cafe and we make green smoothies. When I process the kale frozen, it gets uber creamy, even in a regular blender.

    1 teaspoon coconut oil
1 1/2 teaspoon dark cocoa powder
    1 1/2 teaspoon chia seeds
