Skinny Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck?!?!?

But hey, if that's you're definition of beauty, rock on.
not sure where you picked that up from my post? ..
Anyways, my point is I am confident that my 4 year old daughter isn't going to look at this image and think this is how humans are supposed to look. She's a bright kid, she knows the difference between ducks and humans, cartoons and real life, etc. She would just say something like "Mommy, why does Daisy look so weird".
Saying "these images disgust me I think they're going to speak to children in a very unhealthy way" is a huge overreaction.0 -
Goofy's outfit is definitely weird. The jacket say "matador." The pants and boots say Firefly captain <--- reference to the short lived SciFi TV show. I can't remember the captain's name.
Mal his name was Mal *sigh*0 -
I just don't like the mixed messages sent out to billions of children out there who adore the Disney characters. So they're cute + fun before but NOW they are gorgeous and stylish because they're toothpicks? Ridiculous. I was surprised that Disney partook in this.0
-
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm OK I'll say it.
I can't believe anyone EVER thought of Mickey, Minnie or Goofy as physical role models.
Are you f 'n kidding me?
Did you consider Scrooge McDuck an example for investment strategy?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
@ ki4yxo
I scrolled all the way back up just to confirm that I completely agree lol0 -
I prefer the original versions. These don't appeal to me. But some of the reactions here are funny!0
-
Ew. That's not them, that's anorexic them!
Those are not the characters I hug at Disney!0 -
Goofy looks like Howard Wolowitz...
WHAT A GREAT SHOW!!!!0 -
Seriously? Why did they feel the need to re-invent beloved Disney cartoon characters into skinnier (unhealthy looking) versions? To sell a few dresses and ascots? These images disgust me I think they're going to speak to children in a very unhealthy way. I'm going to tell my girls that they don't need to have toothpick legs to be beautiful. They're already beautiful just the way they are.
Does anyone else find this disgusting?
ohhhhh my freaking god. are you serious? They're CARTOONS. It's ART.
While I understand your point (and your apparent frustration) I think it's a bit more than just art. I love alternative art. I think taking something and reinventing it is wonderful.
However, if it's used in a marketing way (as this is) it's supposed to influence you.
When you use childrens characters and change them in such a way, it's certainly carries a bit of weight with those children when they see it.
It's very subtle, however, so it just may not seem like a big deal.
And as someone with little girls, I believe OP has a valid point in his distaste for this form of advertisement.
I have 100% confidence that if my daughter saw these pictures it would have zero effect on her body image. I think it's so petty for people to come to that conclusion.
I think if I saw this with my daughter and then explained to her "these are unrealistic bodies and you're beautiful the way you are" she would be so confused as to why I would even have to tell her that.0 -

Agreed. And for all the people freaking out, this is NOT the NEW, PERMANENT version of these characters. They are still their old selves. It's just one artist's take on high fashion crossed with Disney toons. Chill out.0 -
Mickey/Minnie mouses ears have always freaked me out, if these new stylised characters ears stay in the same place during front and profile views i'm all for it.0

Hmm.... I just realized that I quoted the wrong person. My bad.
Anyways, my point was that art is supposed to solicit a feeling or response. I feel that the art is disgusting and sends the wrong message. That's ingrained into who I am. It's not like I'm advocating to burn down the store. So how am I OVER reacting?0 -
The same thing happened to friends Pooh Bear tattoo, only it took like 20 years. FYI: don't tattoo Pooh Bear on your boob.0

That's just....weird.0

How stupid do people think kids are? I watched Looney Toons as a child, and not once did I drop an anvil off a cliff, purchase a flying bat costume or giant sling-shot from Acme, or try to protect myself from falling rocks with a tiny umbrella.0

I LOVE THE OLD DISNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0

Daisy is hot!!!:blushing:0

D-bag Goofy.

eh my only problem is that these are characters kids look up to and its as if they didn't look good enough to begin with so they had to "change" to fit in or wear certain looks. It is just sending a bad message IMO. I am aware this is just a campaign for barneys but still it is seen by children and they are going to notice they are much skinnier. As far as the art itself, not a fan, goofy totally looks like a d-bag -.-0

Umm....who here has ever "looked up" to Disney characters? Am I the only one that just watched these shows for entertainment purposes? Why would you want to look like ANY version of Minnie Mouse :noway:
That being said, these are ugly.0 -

I looked up to Disney princesses when I was like 5 and know a lot of other children who also do or have idealized some form of Disney character.... kids have very active imaginations (thank god). It's not that far-fetched. Minnie mouse I am not so sure of but the point is it can and will effect Some children. Not every kid out there will have parents that care enough to explain that it's just for marketing and minnie didnt go on a diet lol. Sadly some parents or peers tell them they are fat and should strive to be more "princess" like.
To whoever said wallowitz to goofy, LMAO. I totally see that now!0 -
I actually like this. Reminds me of something you'd see in a Tim Burton film.
I don't really see why people are offended by this. To me it art, promoting clothes. The only time I'd worry is if stuff like this ACTUALLY ended up on disney channel.0 -
To me they just look like 'grown up' versions of the cartoon. I dunno, it's a little weird but it's artistic. I don't think they're trying to say that Minnie Mouse is fat and needs to lose weight, that's a little ridiculous to assume. People are so sensitive.0

I don't mind reinterpreting a character in a different style, but I read an article somewhere about this same thing where the artist was quoted as saying that he HAD to change their bodies because Minnie's standard shape wouldn't look good in the type of dress he wanted her to wear. Ugh.0
-
Minus the boots and slightly longer shirt, i would rock Goofy's outfit any day!
I guess they could have made Jack Skelington too, so people wouldn't freak out about how the disney characters look lol.0 -

Minnie must have been so offended when she heard this comment.0 -
D-bag Goofy.

I was thinking more Mick Jagger....0 -
Laaaaaaaaammeeee.
I think Daisy looks kinda cute but seriously, keep them the way they were.
Actually, can we just go back to Steamboat Willy times?0
