Do you have a grocery store home???

Okay so I went grocery shopping at Shoppers for the first time last night! I can't believe that I've never been there before! I think I've found my grocery store match!

You know what I mean, right? I can't be the only one that desires a grocery store "home." I felt comfortable. It was easy to navigate. They're open relatively late compared to most stores around here. The staff was great (and the guy at the register had dark hair and the most amazing blue eyes!) and the selection was pretty amazing...

They had 2 complete World Food aisles and international food spread throughout the store! They also had great produce prices for locally grown food...

Yup, found my grocery store... I can stop bouncing back and forth between Food Lion, Giant and Wal-Mart. I've been doing that since I moved here 2 years ago.

Feels great, ya know?

So, what about you, do you have your own grocery store? A rotation? Go where the sales are? I'm really curious!

Mine is our Safeway Store... and Target... I just like how Safeway is always clean, stocked (without having to get in the way of stockers) and willing to help. And of course, the be all and end all... their produce isn't in overabundance that it takes forever to sell that it is practically rotting on the shelves.

I usually stop at one of the two Publix stores nearby depending on whether I'm on my way home from work or just running there from my house. They just opened a big new fancy one about 3 miles from my house; but the aisles are narrow and I can't find where anything is located.

I go to Walmart for the basics like Milk, TP, Yogurt, Cheese. I go to BigM for meat. I go to Farmer's Market for fruits and veggies.

We don't have any Safeways around here... and our Target has a tiny grocery department... that's probably because it's right by a huge Giant store.

I think the produce section is the best indicator of what you'll think about the rest of the store though!

Is it odd that I've never been in a Publix?

It's probably just that there aren't any close to here or where I lived before I moved here.

We have a SuperTarget, that's why I can go there to shop... and even their produce department isn't bad... I don't buy meat there because pound for pound it's more expensive than Safeway here. But I agree... everywhere I went where the produce department was seriously lacking... there were other things about the store that just didn't "feel" right to me.

    Sounds a lot like me...

I go to Walmart for basics (mostly those that don't need refrigerated and yogurt), Food Lion for meat and anything I may need in a pinch, and Giant mostly for produce.

I'll still go to Walmart for non-grocery items I'm sure (TP, plastic bags, cat food, dog food, pull-ups, etc) but I think Shoppers will probably be my store for the rest now.

When I was with my daughter's father, he worked at a SuperTarget so we went there a lot so we could use his discount... It was nice but their generic brand is a lot more expensive than other at other stores.

I can't say I'm bothered. Tesco and Sainsbury's both near me and I use both. I live in a very ethnically diverse area so world foods are never to problem to get. In fact I get confused then moody when I have to use a shop outside of my area and can't get callaloo/lassi/eddoes/polish cheese etc.

Publix is predominantly here in Florida although there are some in a few other southern states. Im in Central Florida and we usually shop at Walmart for most things. Although getting some bulk items at Costco is good too.

Some of the other chains here in FL are Winn Dixie, Save-a-lot, Target. I dont know if Kash n Karry is still around or not.

I do know of a store like yours that is down here and its called World Market. They have a vast array of items from different cuisines but tend to be on the pricy end and are usually only in the cities. There are several in Orlando.

I Love Trader Joe's,Target and the local Italian market near me.

Good selection, staff is friendly enough, and it's easy to navigate and easy on the wallet.

I Could basically survive of those 3 given the choice.

Mine is PriceSmart because for the staples we always buy it's the cheapest but still good quality.
at 10$ for 6-7 chicken breasts (not frozen, I can't have frozen because of the soy) it's the cheapest I've found it.

Plus it's 2 min from our house, I know where everything is, they have good produce if I can't make it to the farmers market, and they have self checkout.
  • I used to...

then Walmart opened a super center and all the small homie stores got put out of business...

I loved going to the grocery store and getting service. They knew my name. They knew my kids. They carried the groceries to the car for me.

Now? I shop wherever... no grocery store home...

When I lived in TX I absolutely LOVED shopping at HEB...unfortunately, we don't have those here in NC (or even anything that compares), so I end up bouncing around between 3 stores.

I Read PriceSmart as PetsSmart at first and gave quite the raised eyebrow. lol

Yeah... that is true... That's probably why I shop at both... Their generic diapers are pretty decent.

I'm a grocery store slut. I shop at Wegmans, Price Chopper and Shur Save (not as frequently, but they're closest to home and have a liquor store attached), with some stuff from Target and occasionally from Ollie's Bargain Outlet, which is kind of like Big Lots.

Mostly Price Chopper and Wegmans, depending on what I need and what's on sale.

There are plenty of smaller ethnically owned shops near where I live but I'm the type that likes to try everything so I quickly get overwhelmed in them... Plus I tend to feel out of place so going to them is a bit much for me.

By the way, you can now come visit me and I'll show you the perfect place to get everything :P

We have... Costco for our big purchases, shampoo, cheeses, yogurt, meats, fish and pre-cut veggies/fruits like broccoli, baby carrots, pineapple, mango, and we also buy our avocado there. Then there is Real Canadian Superstore for small essentials like pasta, vegan/vegetarian things, milk and late nights when we want something we go to Sobey's because they are 24/7 :D

Wow, does anyone in the US grocery shop online?
I've started to do it here in the uk and find it so much easier.
E come up with a meal plan, and just add all he stuff we need.
I find it alot easier to resist extra stuff, so it works out cheaper, i dont need to put up with ppl randomly stopping in front of what i need to get, no queues, and best of all i dont need to lug everything from the car.

Publix is my main store because it's just 1/2 mile down the road, but I go to Costco every few weeks to stock up on meats, eggs, Greek yogurt, and other things I eat a lot of. I'll also go to Wal-Mart for the prices and if I want anything late at night since Publix closes at 10 pm, Asian market for prices and specialty items I can't get at regular grocery stores, and farmer's markets when I have the time but the best ones aren't close to me. There's a Latino market that I like for meats and produce (great prices) but just not convenient to get to.

I think there are a few major cities that have that... But I don't think that's the case for my area...
