I also need low carb - I try not to exceed 35g in a day (vegetables, an occasional apple, but that is about it). It is the way my body works...

My fat and proteins work themselves out to be about equal each day and that is fine with my body - my total cholesteral dropped over 100 points after 2 months of low carb/high fat and my good cholesterol came up to the healthy level during that time. At least for me, the fatty foods do not harm my body as much as the carbs. I do try to eat more of the healthy fats like salmon and tuna versus fried foods. :)

yeah that is a ton of protein

I agree! As is with any macro, if it's not being used... its being stored as fat :frown:

Why do people think low carb diets are the answer?

because some people have metabolic issues that force them to eat low carb. I cut carbs the first time at the direction of my doctor--I had been diagnosed as insulin resistant. it reversed my IR. I had to stop due to pregnancy and nursing.

I am doing it again 8 years later because I gained a bunch of weight over 8 years, and I tried to get it off with normal macros and exercising like a maniac...and lost 7lbs in 3 months. I cut carbs in half, ate more, exercised less, and the weight has almost melted off. I don't deprive myself at all...and in 5 months I have lost 21 lbs. Should hear this week if my blood work shows any signs of IR again...
  • quite simply, ketogenic diets help a lot of people eliminate junk food. For some people, thinking low carb is easier than thinking "no junk food."

And you can still have bacon.

To anyone out there fiddling with macros, this site has some handy calculations built in and is a very nice format.
