Dear Designers of Shorts

A letter to the evil pants men.

Dear Designers of Shorts,

I would like to begin by stating that I am not huge. I would suggest I could lose 5-10 lbs but I could also stay this size and never be judged. I am just a pear. Your average fruit! Fat booty, slim, if you will excuse the colloquialism.

But here I am, 8 stores later, and somehow not a single pair of shorts has fit my frame. I threw pride out the window- chose sizes from a 6-10 and yet somehow, nothing fits! My butt is flattened in its effort to fit within the fabric, the waist band is 6 inches too big and hanging out the back of my pants to reveal my panties for the day.

How is this possible, you inconsiderate jerks?! I will fully admit that I have a big butt and thick thighs, but it's a butt from genetics and running hills, thighs from deadlifts and squats. How about you take your shorts off the hanger and put them on a woman for once?

Sincerely,

34-26-41

I finally gave up and bought men's shorts.
  • AMEN! I always have to go up a few sized because I have muscular thighs and a big booty, but everything gaps in the waste! FYI, I have found that the Almost Famous brand of shorts works well, and I don't wear a lot of denim shorts, I find that helps

The only thing I want for shorts is for them to NOT only be made for people with thigh gaps. There are times I wish I could glue the inseam to my leg so it doesn't ride up!

I am hourglass and have the same problem - the gap between my waist and the back of any pants is ridiculous. I have spent money having it taken in - but it never looks quite right...I want women to start designing clothes for woman -

If that isn't a business opportunity staring you in the face, I don't know what is. I can fit in regular store sizes, but if I didn't, look out Macy's!

I'm with you. I went shorts shopping. Went into almost every store in the mall. Came out with nothing.

    Word! :drinker:

I found a few pair that fit this summer, but for the most part, I had to stick with Bermuda length because anything shorter cut into my thighs. I have a bit of mush on my legs, but not so much that I should resemble a partially opened can of Pillsbury biscuits. If I get a size that fits my legs and bum, I look like I'm wearing a funnel around my waist.

I actually found a few great pairs of shorts at Target this year, which never happens...I usually hate all bottoms at Target :) Stuff on clearance for $5 to $10 right now!

ERMAHGERD!!! I have the exact same problem! Whatever fits the booty is HUGE in the waist, whatever fits the waist makes the booty feel like it's even HUGEer. :grumble:

I totally hear you! They're all made for prepubescent kids--- Not women. I find myself wearing running shorts all the time cuz no other shorts seem to fit. I will say I have found a few pairs of cute denim ones at Maurices that fit. Good luck! :)

You hit the nail on the head. I am by no means over-weight and actually get compliments on my legs quite frequently, but find it nearly impossible to find shorts or jeans that fit my thighs and butt, but also fit in the waist. I've switched almost exclusively to skirts. I have one pair of cute jeans shorts but after 3 summers of wear, they are about ready to be retired. Been looking for another pair for three years and haven't been able to find one that fits nearly as well.

I believe the solution is to go out sans shorts.

I used to think I was an apple, but since losing weight, I think I might be more hourglass. I've always had a problem finding clothes because my stomach was a bit larger than my legs. In high school when I would go clothes shopping with my mom, she finally understood why I wore baggy pants. The pants would fit great around my waist, but would be baggy around my legs. When she had me squeeze into a smaller size, they fit great around my legs, but I couldn'g zip up the pants. Nothing has ever fit me right. Clothes are not made for people with shape. Since I've been losing weight and gaining muscle, clothes are starting to fit better, but it still sucks.

The Loft has great shorts. I have the same problem as you, booty, thighs and tiny waist. I bought 3 different styles at Ann Taylor loft and they all fit nice. Some short, some long. Also believe it or not, the Limited.

I totally agree! It sucks because I have narrow hips and a thin frame, but a very muscular butt. I wear a size 0 in jeans in the legs and a 3 in my butt alone! come on!

Also, not sure about you guys... but when I have to dress all nice for a wedding/party and wear a dress, it fits me perfectly! Except I have about 2-3 inches of loose fabric on my back scrunched up above my butt. WTF!!??!?!?!?

same problem here...gappy backs and not a good fit...tried old navy stretch shorts...seem to be better but still gap in the back of waist. I have just resorted back to stretch pants and shorts...it's very annoying :(

I LOVE Target shorts! (actually wearing a pair right now!) I do have to get either the bermuda length (which is great for golf) or the cargo shorts or I have the issue Lorenalynn has. And I am a full on pear and always have the waist issue.

I'll tell you some good jeans to get though if you want to spend the money.

Joe's Jeans has a pair that fit just right. They are not low-rise but not mom jeans and they are designed for women with a butt. Bought another pair at the outlet mall so I didn't wince quite so much.

As big as I am...........I have no hips and no booty..but legs that go forever (Im 6') My legs are well muscled..thigh and calf so "skinny" jeans look like crap. Now if I could shed this belly issue I think Id have it made.

    ~sigh
  • Its not just shorts!! I have the same problem with shorts, trousers and even some fitted skirts and dresses. If they fit over my currrrvaceous hips, you can fit 2 of my waist in the waistband!

I just plain don't wear shorts. Some people just shouldn't wear them. I'm one of them.

Hourglass figure. Same flipping problem! The only thing that I have found that remotely combats this problem are low cuts/hip huggers, not my favorite style, not the most comfie to me, but ok with a long shirt. The Lane Bryant color dot system works out, but *sobs* in another couple of sizes I'll be too small for Lane Bryant, and I have no idea what I'm going to do then!

Exactly...I will never have the thigh gap... I too have a big booty/thighs and a smaller waist...

ive been looking for some gym shorts for weeks

turns out, if youre a girl you want them super short and tight, or really long and unflattering.

i got a pair of nike womans basketball shorts while in america, how i wish i bought another 4 or 5 pairs. just above the knee, not tight and look good on.

i wear mens bike shorts in a size larger. crazy, huh?
  • Have you tried looking for anything from the Apple Bottom brand? They are designed with that body type in mind. I don't know the size range, but you might take a look.

This!!!!! Why????? Dress looks great turn around and WTH???? Also agree with shorts and pants issues....I have big thighs....so major waist/butt gap. I like the Loft for pants....I have a pair of juniors "Angels" jeans from Kohls that fit ok too.....Shorts? pfffttt gym shorts only, otherwise they squish my inner thigh mush. Gross.
