I've heard of it before. Not uncommon. But weird you have to do three in person interviews. I've done one phone and two in persons before.

Yep. Especially if there is a lot of competition!
  • For a high level job, I'd expect two or three.

I had four, a luncheon, and a dinner. If you're going for a professional job, it's a good sign that they're looking for the right candidate.

Depends on the company, but it's definitely not uncommon.

It obviously depends on the job.
Flipping burgers at mcDonalds? One should do.

Running food distributions for all SouthEast McDonalds franchises? Expect three interviews.

I don't think so, not for a higher up job. I had 2 interviews for my 1st job out of university, and it wasn't a particularly high level job.

I'm a teacher now, and our interviews last an entire day! (in the UK)

    I wouldn't say common.
But I can understand if it's an important position and they're trying to find the best possible fit.

That being said, I applied at Sears a few years ago for a cashier position and they had 2 interviews and if you passed both you had to go in for computer testing before they'd hire you. For a job like that, I felt it was stupid to go through so much. Especially with such a high turnover rate. Waste of time.

I had a phone interview then 2 in person interviews, an in depth background check, then 2 drug tests, a physical (and I don't even do any manual labor on a regular basis) and then FINALLY got an offer letter for my job. They are NOT playin' around with who they have selling beer here!

    Yes.

One to interview everyone and narrow the selection.
2nd--selected candidates to interview with manager and subordinates
3rd -- two or three to interview with VP/SVP of the company to check potential for upward promotion.

You can do this :) !!!!

When I was interviewing for my current position I interviewed six times. It's pretty specialized and I interface with a lot of different groups within the company so there were a lot of different kinds of people I needed to meet with.

I used to do copier sales 20 years ago, had 3 interviews. one at the office with the sales manager... one at my house (that was wierd) and one more at the office with the company pres. The one at my house was probably the strangest thing I've done for a job.

Yea. It's a good thing. The companies that spend a long time looking for the right candidate are the companies that (generally) value long-term employees and will therefore work harder to keep you happy. My current job is awful and I had a phone interview and one in-person interview.
  • I did 5 for the job I have now. Exhausting, but worth it

Not really. I had a group interview. We each gave a 5 minute presentation to the interview panel, and rotated through 5, different topic, individual interviews.

    I had:
    -A phone interview
    -Online assessments
-a phone call to tell me I passed and invite me to the info session
-An hour long info session about the company
    -A face to face interview
-a final phone call to discuss hours and pay, during which we came to an agreement so I was offered the position
-a piss test and fingerprinting for background check...
-Once they confirmed I was a drug free non-felon I was in....

YES. I had to go through 3 interviews for my job. There was a whole board for my first interview (about 10 ppl) who were the search committee. I then met with an HR associate and then I had my last interview with my two bosses that are directly above me. I work on the website & do graphic design at a university.

I had a headache when I was done.

I had to do that when I was getting hired at Lowes. A bit excessive I thought....

Yes especially if its a large company. I interviewed with a large non profit. First interview was with the head of the dept. 2nd was with all dept. heads and 3rd was with the board. In the end they decided I was over qualified and that they couldn't afford me. They said I was more qualified than the person who would have been my boss.

It's not uncommon. I have interviewed with 2 different companies where Day 1 interviews include giving a presentation in the morning to about 5-10 people, and then interviewing with at least 5 people. Day 2 is usually a lunch with the manager and group you would be working with, and Day 3 is with Management. So really 7-8 separate interviews over the course of 3 interviewing days. If you make it to Day 3, you should be good.

It's not uncommon. I've been through as many as three and didn't even get in the door. On the flip side, I got my current job over the phone.

Very common. Also having to do a presentation, and/or a written test.
