It's a New Year and our 6-week challenge ends. Onto the next one: Valentine's Day!

I just wanted to set this up tonight before I go to bed. I'll submit my weight/measurements tomorrow morning/afternoon/when i haul my fat butt out of bed, but in case there are some early birds, wanted to have the thread all ready!

Go team! You're all fabulous and I'm looking forward to the new challenge. Anyone interested in joining our small group, this is a great time to do so. Today, post your current weight, and your goal weight for our Valentine's Day Challenge. You can optionally put in an ultimate goal weight or any measurements. We weigh-in weekly on Fridays, with a new thread starting that morning. Everyone is fabulous and I couldn't imagine doing it without them! Good luck all!

Here's a start... as she already commented on the old thread:
Blombie:
CW: 242 (pounds lost for New Year's Challenge: 4 (I looked it up))
GW: 232 (Valentine's Day)

Happy New Years. I hope everyone survived the evening. I was very bad and went 1000 calories over :blushing: . But had some great family time. I will just have to workout harder the next few days to get back on track (and hope that DH and my bro both eat the left over pizza soon)...

I ended the challenge at 211. I lost 6 of my 10 pound goal and had a great time sharing my ups and downs with this group. Thanks for being there :flowerforyou: Once everyone has their numbers in, I will post a chart.

For the next challenge - my heart says set 199 as the goal but my mind knows realistically I should set 201. Slow and steady wins the race and I haven't meet my goal for the last 2 challenges so my mind wins :grumble: I just can't wait to get under 200 :noway: It has been 10 years since I been that light.

Okay, I have to ask about New Years Resolutions/Goals. Here are mine, what are yours?

    1) to finish a 5K in less than 40 min....
    2) to spend an hour a week reading/listening to The Bible (I have always wanted to read the whole thing but stop after several weeks of trying)
    3) to try eating like a vegan for 1 week - not sure when I will start this.
    4) to start volunteering somewhere - I am leaning towards a food pantry or animal shelter but it could be anything
    5) to learn something new every month

PS Blombie - drink lots of water - it will help with any headaches from last night. Hope you had a great time, you deserved it.

Valentines GW: 202......gosh, wouldn't that be nice!!!

    New Years Resolutions for me....
take better care of my skin
Run 3 miles and maybe enter a 5K....we'll see!!

love to all! Here's to a skinny new year!!!

    Congrats gals!!!

Weighed in this morning at 213.4. That's down 6.6 for this challenge, 16.6 since we started in October. Considering Christmas ran right through the middle of it, I will take that number like no one's business! As for measurements, I'm down 1" in waist, 1.5" in the hips, 0.5" in the upper thighs, and 0.5" in the calfs. Woot!

Valentine's goal: 203 (so close to under 200!). pinbot, cds- we will smash through that number next challenge!

As for New Year's resolutions, I tend not to make very many because I don't stick to them, but here are a couple:
    - Start running outside once it gets warmer
    - Read at least 30 books
    - Continue my healthy eating and exercising
    - Get settled in a new place to live

Good luck everyone. I'm all pumped up again about a new challenge starting. You all have been so fabulous and such a big support to me!

Congrats on everyone's weight loss :drinker: :drinker: (yes, its water in the cups)... I will give Heather a day or so to post and then make the chart. By the way - I did week 5 day 3 of C25K and am proud to say that I ran all 20 min at 5.0 mph. It's a record for me. I can't wait for spring and garage sales - want to buy an elliptical. You make it sound fun.

I had an absolutely FABULOUS TIME LAST NIGHT. It was so much fun! And I even though I was DRUUUUUUNK, I am not hungover at all today!! Of course, I probably just slept through the headache/bad feeling. Went to bed around 3am, got up at 11:30. Laid in bed for an hour or so to make sure I didn't over exert myself too quickly. I feel great!

There were 2 comedians last night, everyone counted down to midnight, and then they moved tables and opened up a dance floor. My friends and I got on the dance floor for a couple songs and then YMCA came on. Everyone knows what to do when they sing the YMCA part in the song, but I started doing a dance during the verses and everyone was watching me and joined in. It was FABULOUS. this was my dance moves....right arm, point to the left and bring it around to the right (kinda like what they do in Greased Lightning) and bounce my hand to the beat, then do the same thing with the left arm in the opposite direction, pose pose pose pose pose, its fun to stay at the YMCA.....yeah, I had a BLAST

And then there was a guy there from my high school days (didn't go to my school, hung out at the pool hall that I went to all the time...my friend's uncle owned it). Back in the day, we talked and flirted but never really "dated." My friend saw him first and was like "I think that's Russell" and I kept looking at him going "nah...that ain't him. Is that him? I don't think thats him" and then he was dancing with his girl and he looked RIGHT at me and I was like "ok, yeah that's him." It was funny. He had seen me do the YMCA dance and everything.

I don't really do resolutions. I tried to give up Diet Mtn Dew last year and lasted about 3 months. I think my resolution is to lose at least 30 pounds this year. I'm hoping to lose a lot more, but I figure that will be my minimum. Also, when the house sells, I want to take two weeks and go camping in Maine by myself. I love photography and think I could get some BEAUTIFUL pictures up there. I would be so happy.

If you want to see some of my pictures, friend me on facebook!! Send me an email on mfp and I'll tell you my full name (don't really want to just post it on a public board here).

Blombie- Sounds like you had an absolute blast last night! I'm so happy for you. And camping in Maine sounds fabulous. My parents went camping in Acadia a couple of years ago and they said it was gorgeous. We of course will expect to see lots of pictures (btw, sent you a message re: facebook friending)! I'd love to go camping again... perhaps if the family is going again this year, I might attend after taking many years off.

Blombie - glad you had a great time. I will send a e-mail request as well. I would love to see your pictures. I vacationed in Maine 10 years ago and always said, if I didn't live in the wilds of northern Michigan, I would choose Maine. What brand HRM did you buy? How do cal burned compare to MFP estimates?

akasullengal - have you been using the Woot heart rate monitor? How do calories burned compare to MFP? I am getting from 1/3 to 1/2.

I have the Reebok Precision XT hrm. I like it a lot. For some reason, I can't find the right spot to put it on the elliptical at work cause it never receives the signal from the chest strap. But when I go to the gym, I have no problem getting it to receive a signal. I was using the calorie burned readings from the elliptical instead of what mfp said and it was a LOT lower than what my hrm says. Although I have to admit I always hit the Quickstart button and never put in my age/weight.

I think I've decided to stop going to the gym at work and just start going at night. Now that I left Joey, I have nothing else to do when I get home (well, I come home and play my facebook games but then as my stuff is growing I can go to the gym). Plus I get to work out as long as I want to if I wait till after work. 30 minutes just isn't enough anymore.

I did make it to the gym for an hour yesterday. I didn't weigh myself this morning. I'll give it another day or two before I get on the scale again. I'm not sure if my gym is even open today.

Pinbot, I haven't used the HRM recently. The cardio machines were reading it weird and the calories it said I was burning was super low. Then, I couldn't get it to read again, so I'm not sure what's up. I've been entering what the machines say I've burned (after accounting for my age/weight).

Blombie- sounds like going to the gym in the evening is a good choice for you in many ways.

Ladies... I ate pizza tonight. Lots of pizza. I feel horrible a)because i so didn't need it b)my tummy no likey.

the gym was SUPER crowded today. Not a surprise with all the new year's resolution folks, i'm sure it'll die down again in a few weeks. Wasn't able to get an elliptical right away or a bike (can't think of the name... the ones where you sit back and pedal forward), so i had to do a regular bike for 30. didn't have a problem, other than the fact that my lady parts didn't enjoy it very much. my bum might be aching tomorrow. did elliptical for 30 afterwards, so less than the normal caloric burn, but still put in 60 min of cardio. I'm hoping to go again tomorrow.

after yesterday's pizza fiasco, i'm pretty much back on track today. i tell you though... i'm having a lot more naughty food cravings this past week than I have in several weeks. I think eating all that crap over the holidays caused it. i need to get my body completely back in the healthy eating routine, cause i wasn't really craving lots of bad food prior to the holidays.

I have noticed a lot more people posting on the boards here too since the New Year began. I wonder how many will stick with it into Feb? At least I know you guys will stick with me :flowerforyou:

We are thinking about a trip to Ypsilanti next weekend. We have a friend there going though a divorce and my husband's birthday is the 10th. Weather and work will being our deciding factors. I guess I will offer to be the DD - less calories from drinks but I am sure we will have deep fried pickles and other bar food. I am really going to have to workout hard this week to make up for the trip.

akasullengal - glad you were able to get the workout in despite the crowd. Don't worry I had a pizza fiasco too this week - but boy did it taste great.

blombie - waiting to weigh yourself is a good idea.

Here's to a great week for all of us :drinker:

PS I will try to post the chart tomorrow...

Pinbot, hey Ypsi is right down the road from me. Have a blast! Good luck with the working out to compensate. That'll certainly help!

No one's heard from the other gals, eh? I sent Nikki a message, but no response. Anyone hear anything from Heather?

ETA: Pinbot, you're doing the c25k, right? How do you like it? I really would like to start running and I think it would be a good way to ease myself into it. The problem: it's effin' cold outside, and I find myself not too coordinated on the treadmill. I'm never sure what speed to go on to walk v. jog v. run, and always end up super uncoordinated about ready to pull a faceplant.

yes, I am faithfully doing the C25K. I started outside and it was much more fun. As the weather got cold, I turned to the treadmill. I started out at speed of 3.0 mph (20 min mile) for walk and jog (aka run at 5.0 mph - 12 min mile). By week 4, I was doing 4 mph walk and 6.0 mph jog. Week 5 was more intensive so I took it back down to 3 mph walk and 5.0 mph jog... I plan to start week 6 today. I haven't decided what speed to go yet. I like how slow and gradual you increase and it really felt great to get that 20 min run in (okay, I admit I was a tad scared to do it - fear of failure and all)... Now, I feel like I can conquer the world  Robert Ulery (?sp) has free podcasts with good music to help you through it. Some people use it on the elliptical to increase speed. The first week is 8 60 sec runs with 90 sec walks between - I remember how SOB (short of breath) I was that first week. You should try it - I will be here to encourage you. If you need a goal - there is a 5K run in Sault Saint Marie in April. My Yspi friend is planning to start the training so that she can run it with me and I have other friends going up for the race.

I haven't heard from Nikki or Heather.

Thanks for the feedback. I already downloaded the podcasts. I'm not a huge fan of techno, but I found some other mixes people have done with music I like more, so I'm going to use those. Thanks for letting me know the speeds on the treadmill you used. I'm going to give that a try. As long as one is open today at the rec center, I'll try day 1. Already loaded one of the mixes onto my shuffle! I'll certainly let you know how it goes! I really would like to start running more. I think it's a great activity to get into. I know people who love to do it, and I just never got it. I feel like now that i've actually been working out for a couple of months, I feel like I have a bit more energy/stamina (not to mention less weight) to do it. Thanks for the heads up on the run in April. I'll have to think about that. It would be a nice goal!

you may want to try this website as well for more hip music. People on another site were talking about it.

    http://www.kissmyblackass.org

If you have an iphone, there was talk about an app that will cue you over your own music. I am thinking about trying it. I have trouble running to music - so I have been having 2 ipods running - one on low with music/cues and 1with my book on tape...

    Good luck today.

Well, I did week 1 of c25k. And I didn't fall off the treadmill! Success! I didn't feel as uncoordinated. The music cues helped (I'l check out the site you linked to as well), plus the treadmill has a speed interval button that I can easily jump from the 3mph to 5mph. Only one minor side crampage issue which went away pretty quickly. I was sweating up a storm though. Also, my uncoordination came from the fact I was wearing my looser gym pants and while they don't give me a problem on the elliptical or bike, with my tummy bopping up and down, they started migrating further and further south, causing me to keep yanking them up while I was running. note to self: wear tighter pants when doing c25k. Though there could certainly be worse things than your gym clothes getting too big. I'm glad I didn't try to do it right away, cause it would have been super difficult. Looking forward to continuing with the challenge.

I have the iPhone app. I haven't used it yet, but it sounds like a good idea. The issue is that I normally run with my shuffly cause it's tiny. I would fine my iPhone to be bulky. We'll see though.

Made some corn chowder soup from a vegan cookbook I got for Christmas. Took forever to chop all the veggies, but it looks and smells yummy. Hope it tastes as good!

the soup was yummy. good thing as i have a ton of it now.

i attempted to make my own c25k mix for week 1. it doesn't have the audio cues... just the song changes when the time is up. it's pretty rudimentary, but at least it's songs that i really like to work out to. perhaps as I go along, I'll get better at sound editing. hrm.

Me too Blombie! Took me FOREVER to fall asleep last night, causing this morning to be extra painful. I was lucky that I was able to sleep in an hour with the new responsibilities around work. Same job, but completely different location and lots of new responsibilities. Exciting, but I also don't have much of a clue as to what's going on, so it's going to take a while. Could be a stressful couple of weeks, but I think things will even out.

No working out today. Thought about it, but my legs are a bit sore... but in area they aren't normally. I don't think it's the running from yesterday. I think it's that damn sit up bike I did on Saturday. I plan on doing day 2 of week 1 of c2k tomorrow. Food wasn't the best today, but not horrid.

    Happy Monday to all!

no worries pinbotchick! we know your busy. I'm more concerned with our little group hanging in there :) I like the support here.
Anyhow, today went good. Ran another two miles on the treadmill....yeah me! I was doing the C25K, but once I got my ipod nano, I just felt like running more with the music, so here I am . Going to gradually now speed things up weekly and get to 3 miles. But for now, im happy with two.
hope ya all had a good monday!
I picked up my held copy of "biggest loser simple swaps" today at the library. if there is anything decent I will try to post here for you all.

cds, congrats on all the running your doing!

pinbot, great job on working out!

I spend a really busy day at the office. I was able to give away some of my christmas candy/chocolate which was good. I really wanted to just go home after I got off, but I went to the gym like a good girl. Did day 2 of week 1 of c2k. Not any easier, but not harder. My ankles and shins were hurting a bit after day 1, but we'll see how I feel after this one. the 5.0mph for the run is good for me. The guy next to me was running at 6.0, but looked about at the same pace. This is what happens when one is 5'3".... with a much longer torso than legs. Bummer!

Plan is to go to the gym tomorrow and elliptical it, and do day 3 of c2k on thursday.

    keep it up gals!!

When we become the Fab 4, I say we should all take pictures of ourselves in different super hero costumes and use it as our profile pictures!! hahaha

Hopefully it'll be right around the time of Halloween (or maybe after halloween so we can get the costumes discounted!)
