The myth that women shouldn't lift heavy is only perpetuated by women who fear work and men who fear women.
That's what's up.

Signed. I would also add that it's further perpetuated by the misunderstanding that heavy lifting with make you bulky.0 -
Exactly. That's why I believe in buying cast iron pots and pans....they are heavier.0

While I agree women lifting heavy is perfectly fine, I disagree with your reasoning behind people believing that it will bulk them up.
Old beliefs about fitness (or anything) die hard.0 -
The only heavy lifting women should do is dinner into the oven! JK0

Hi tonto.0 -
I am always the only women in the "advanced free weights" room in my gym. I've literally never seen another woman there. E first day I was there, a guy suggested I would be more comfortable in the main area, which is all cardio and a few cable circuit type machines. I told him I was fine. He said he thought I was making some of the guys uncomfortable. I said, "they'll get used to me eventually."
Now that he sees me in there a few times a week, we're pals. Apparently they're not uncomfortable anymore... I think they were just scared of a girl showing them up. Which, btw - I totally kill them on. The leg press! :laugh:0 -

Gawd, is THAT where that came from?0 -
There's a myth?0

No need to generalize. There are plenty of reasons why a woman may choose not to lift heavy weights that have nothing to do with fear of hard work (seriously?!) or bulking up. There are plenty of fit men who don't lift heavy weights either.0

So, I can love you now
finally we can consummate our love in a completely hetero way0 -
Just like homophobes are terrified that a gay man will treat them the way they treat women.0

I have been doing BodyPump 2x per week at 24Fitness for 6 months now. That class averages 800reps per hour! I lift as heavy as I can and as heavy as the instructor. It has made my arms look soo much better and i believe it is helping to smooth my legs out. The only downside is that you don't lose weight as fast- but you look like you have lost more than you have since you are building muscle.0

What about women who fear other women? I don't want all my female friends to get bulky and go on testosterone-driven rampages.0
