I plan on having a little bit of everything. But not overdoing it. And enjoying each thing. And logging it. That is what I did last year.

Its a holiday..I will eat. I do plan to do a 5 K the morning of thanksgiving..and as far as christmas..probably will go for a run between opening presents and dinner..

But then the greatest moments in life usually include food...I do not look at these moments as bad things but good things..and will eat what I want. totally binging 3 even 5 days out of the year...in the long run will not hinder anything I have done over the past year...

My husband an I were talking about this yesterday and the only thing I really came up with is to prepare the meals myself so I'll be able to figure out the calories in my portion, limited sweets, and ensure I continue with my exercise program throughout.

What are you going to do to not fall completely off the wagon but not seem like a 'miserable dieter' at the same time?
    Im planning on:
Not buying such huge joints of meat (who really needs to eat leftovers for a week anyway)
Only having one sweet treat a day after dinner (because we all know its a month long food fest, not just 2 days!)
Definitely wont be sitting in front of the tv with a tin of Celebrations or Roses in my lap like last year.
Buying the kids sweet treats for their stockings on Christmas Eve so I dont get a chance to 'eat and replace'
Keeping up with the workouts and generally not beating myself up if I do cheat a little... it is Christmas afterall, who wants a sad mummy?

Im hoping to reach my goal by Christmas, it will be the best present I could ever treat myself (and my husband) to!!

I have to say I'm super lucky because Chrismas always means losing weight for me ;) I'm a vegetarian and a picky eater so big family dinners are usually not difficult for me. I don't like pies and cream and stuff like that so I always end up eating litchi for desert and I don't eat meat during the meal. Plus, Xmas always means running last-minute errands and visit the capital with the family that comes from other areas. Anyway, I'm not worried about Xmas ;)

too many people are concerned about what they should eat between thanksgiving and christmas, when they should really be concerned about what they are eating between christmas and thanksgiving.

I plan on eating whatever my heart desires on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Christmas Eve.

There is no way that those days will make a difference in the long run. I would just rather enjoy the food and spending time with my family on the holidays rather than worry about calories.

^^This! It's what I do the rest of the year that really matters...not just a couple days!
  • I am going to quit recording food between Nov. 10 and January 2.

I really only have to worry about those 2 days...and maybe 2 more parties. I am pretty sure I can enjoy them all not go crazy. But I can also allow myself to splurge a little. I have worked TOO hard these past several months to mess up now. :)

I would generally agree with this, but goddamn, the holiday season really is a *****.

I am divorced and my ex and I split our holidays by year, this year is NOT my year to have my kids :(... so, I am just planning on ignoring the holiday meals completely.

My mother-in-law always sends us home with tons of leftovers and loads of Christmas cookies. I plan on freezing whatever leftovers I can into individual portions. I also plan on making my dear hubby keep the cookies at his office so he can eat them there to his heart's content!

I'm also going to remember that Thanksgiving and Christmas are two days and avoid splurging for the entire season.

In UK so no Thanksgiving but at Christmas I plan to eat and enjoy it! :D

Last year I put on 7lbs but it was mostly water weight that came straight off when I got back into my routine so judging by that I'm just going to go with the flow and enjoy my holidays! :D

I don't take plates of food home. If any, I just take enough for ONE more meal. Also, get a little of everything. It'll look like you have a ton of food on your plate so no one asks but you aren't overdoing it. With that said, try to make most of that vegetables but don't go overboard because holiday vegetables are usually not that great.

If you're hosting Christmas, you could do what we do sometimes! Since we get sick of the same food for Thanksgiving and Christmas, we'll have SeaFood Christmas. It's great! Everyone gets to eat great, NEW food without feeling bloated :D

All honesty ~ I'm hoping to keep my teeth chewing, lips smacking, and tongue licking and have as much yummy food enter in my mouth as possible...I just don't have will power during these two holidays and the friends and family and all the cheer makes my healthier eating habits not so much a priority. I will probably eat better the week before Thanksgiving. Put after Thanksgiving I'm eating that food up to a week before Christmas and we always start cooking/prep a week prior to Christmas. My healthy eating usually halts about the week before Thanksgiving and resumes January 3rd.
  • You know, I eat whatever I want on Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I've kind of gotten to the point where, if I over indulge WAY too much, I feel completely sick and it's just not worth it.

My main strategy is to avoid food I make several other times a year: rolls, mashed potatoes, cheesy potatoes, deviled egss, macaroni salad and green bean casserole are skipped in favor of stuffing, homemade noodles, corn casserole, and cranberry sauce. Same thing with dessert, I focus on the seasonal ones like pumpkin pie, maple bread pudding, fudge and skip things like cupcakes, cheesecake and sugar/chocolate chip cookies. In addition, I always make a healthier dish that I really enjoy - even if it is non-traditional.

I also beef up workouts a little -- usually adding an extra day or 10 minutes to each session.
  • eating mostly veggies and meat. no potatoes or rice or noodles... clean as possible during Thanksgiving. By Christmas I want to have reached my goal of losing 15 pounds and 2 - 3 inches off my waist! :)

I'll probably be staying off the forums more because I get so freaking sick of all the threads like this. It's ridiculous to think you're going to ruin your diet in one or two days. Get over it and enjoy the damn holiday.

Lol, I have to agree. I plan on ENJOYING myself and not feeling guilty about it!!! There will be food and booze!! Yahooooo:)))

I've been so worried about Christmas and Thanksgiving. The holidays always cause me to gain, so it has been stressing me out because I don't want that this year. Thanks for posting this, it's awesome to read people's plans!

I personally plan to cut myself a break on Thanksgiving and Christmas (and Christmas Eve...My family has a Christmas Eve tradition of making home made nachos, because "Santa is probably sick of cookies" according to my parents when I was young. I'm not passing that up). The difference this year is that I'm leaving my "slack" days to JUST those three days...Not two whole weeks. Leftovers are my weakness, but this year I'm not going down that road. My take on it is, there's no reason not to enjoy yummy food on the holidays, I just have to get right back on the wagon instead of saying "I'll start at the New Year".

My gym's transformation challenge ends the day after Thanksgiving, so I plan on winning. (What? Vegetarian. There's got to be SOMEthing good about Thanksgiving.)

This year is all messed up anyway because we're going to be home for Thanksgiving and with the in-laws for Christmas, so none of the normal stuff is happening - no 10lb box of Mom's Christmas Fudge, no MIL's 50-course T-day dinner. Not even a Texas A&M vs. UT football game. Kind of thinking about signing up for the Turkey Trot, if I can get my foot better in time.

As far as eating goes, though? I'm gonna eat whatever I want, and not eat anything I don't want to. Everyday eating habits > one unusual day.

NO NO NO....for me personally I know I'm going to be over. Why stress out over it. Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are just 2 days. And 2 days is not going to ruin a year of hard work!

Nope... and honestly I most likely won't log while I am out of town for Christmas at all. We will be gone December 21(or 22) through January 2 (depending on weather since we travel several states away). I mean, one night will be Maggiano's with my cousin, Christmas Eve will be Olive Garden Take Out, Christmas Day will be Cinnamon Rolls and a huge dinner, and New Years Eve will be Onion Soup and other Snacks.... and booze. And I will be making cookies to bring with... and maybe some sweet bread. I don't know yet!

Yep, I have to, Im one of the ones who can actually convince myself that a cookie here, a splodge of ice-cream there and then a bit of brownie with fresh cream later followed by a smidge of cheesecake with a couple of mince pies on the side can SURELY only be about 250cals... right?
I will eat, dont get me wrong but then Ill see the damage in my log and rectify it. Its been a lifetime of kidding myself that got me here in the first place!
