Lean ground beef (95% or 96%) vs. ground Turkey

also use turkey 9/10 or more. Venison is the other ground meat I'll use over beef. No matter how low fat (97/3% is the lowest I can find) venison and turkey win for lower fat and calories. I have fed both to ppl in many dishes and they swore it was beef.
I prefer venison or if I can find it, buffalo. I'm out of venison for the next 2 months, so will make due with ground chuck. I'm not a fan of ground turkey, although I do like the pre-made 95/5 pattties.0 -
I never it beef, so ground turkey for me. Everything can taste horrible at first skim milk, whole wheat bread, sweetener, etc. But once you get used to eating healthier you don't have to worry about your weight fluctuating! My health is more important "to me" than the taste of food!0

turkey, Once you go super lean with beef to mean it just tastes BLAH0

I actually did some label-reading and found that my store's extra-lean ground chicken is nutritionally better than turkey. So I go with that. Then again, the only beef I really like is steak.0

my husband can't tolerate red meat so it's ground turkey for us0

We made the choice about 2-3 years ago to switch from using ground turkey instead of ground beef. It takes some getting used to initially, same wit any major change, but we would never go back. I use it in place of ground beef in any situation. Meatloaf, burgers, tacos, spaghetti, sloppy joes, even the occasional kid-requested hamburger helper. Our family now prefers this so much that we often find the same meals unnapealing when made with red meat. It also gives my husband terrible stomach issues for days afterwards.0

ground turkey is usually 85/15 I believe.
so i'd go with the beef.0 -
96% beef is a staple in my diet. I need the iron. When choosing a ground poultry, I go for ground chicken. There is something funky about ground turkey that I just don't like.0
-
I use 96/4 ground beef and its only 150 calories. I think it taste better than turkey.0

To each his own taste wise and if someone doesn't feel so great eating either than they should be all means avoid it but I don't think one is far better than the other.
I use lean ground beef. Beef has gotten such a bad reputation but there are a lot of health benefits to red meat. There are a lot of nutrients in beef. Of course you don't want to eat a whole pound at one time but eaten in moderation with other healthy foods is just fine!
There is a massive difference between eating a fast food hamburger and eating homemade lean burgers with grilled veggies!0 -
Sometimes I use turkey, sometimes I use beef but usually I do a half/half blend of them.0

MY HUSBAND HAS INFORMED ME I CAN'T NOT MESS WITH HIS MEAT. SO TURKEY ANYTHING IS OUT OF THE QUESTION... BUT I DO USE THE LEANEST I CAN FIND!!0
-
There is no great reason to choose turkey over beef every single time. Red meat is a valuable source of iron and other minerals. If you know how to eat in moderation, and you eat a wide variety of foods, you're not doing yourself any favors by constantly replacing everything with turkey. Yeah it's "leaner" but getting some animal fat is actually good.
I don't mind turkey meatballs or the occasional turkey burger. Turkey chili has a gummy, weird texture that I hate. Most of the time I will choose beef instead.0 -
Mostly beef. Turkey on occaision. We have a freezer full of homegrown beef, lots and lots of hamburger around 90% so why spend money I don't have to
We also have pounds of burger that are a mix b/t venison and pork. Also lean and works in chilli, there's some at home in the crock pot right now.0 -
i use ground turkey in everything, its easier for me to digest.0
-
Turkey for me except if I'm grilling and sometimes there's just nothing like a good lean hamburger!0
-
turkey is better but i like to mix lean beef in there also. like on taco night!0
-
73/13 beef and dark meat chicken with the skin. I'm not fat-phobic.0
-
Really think ground turkey tastes worse than dirt, so I go for the ground beef. Tastes much better!0

I went to the Kosher Kroger the other day, and may I just say, the kosher ground beef just looked so much more REAL & healthier than the ground beef I usually buy at the regular supermarket. It looked leaner and just plain BETTER than the usual ground beef. I'm not Jewish, but the next time I buy any kind of beef, I think I'll be heading to the Kosher Kroger (also, it's WAY cheaper than Whole Foods!).
As for turkey burgers, I'm just not a fan.0 -
neither. I read a study once that said DNA from 400 different animals were found in just 1 pound of ground beef, and that kind of turned me off to it. I used veggie patties now and I prefer those way more to the alternative. I get different flavors with veggie burgers and they have less calories and fat than meat patties. If I ever do decide to eat ground beef again it will probably be when I can afford to buy one of those machines to ground my own beef, that way I know it will be from a single animal and I don't have to wonder about the process.0

WHERE an animal comes from is very important. Grass-fed beef is just amazing.
I'd love to see the study though, can you link it?0 -

This isn't the study I read but it says something similar:

Come to think of it I believe I heard that from a story on NPR, they were telling a man that they were glad he ground his own meat because of that DNA study that was done. I don't remember what their source was or if there are specific brands, but NPR usually gives accurate information.0 -

If you read the rest of the site, it's about aliens and conspiracy theories and an "article" about how AIDS was created by humans to cull undesirables from the gene pool.0 -

So it's info he got from somewhere else, not a great example but that doesn't mean it's not true. Like I said, that is not where I heard it originally, I heard it on NPR, which is a credible source that unfortunately I can't link to. It was mentioned in a cooking segment and I couldn't find any articles on their site specifically about that. It's enough to make me skeptical.0
