0........
but meal calorie intakes are going to vary from person to person.0 -
I stop eating breakfast because I wanted to have more food in the evening than in the morning. I don't get hungry until 11-12 anyway. It's working for me.0
-
Not at all true - just a personal opinion of the OP0
-
Eating breakfast spikes your insulin and puts your body in fat storing mode for the day..........
Only if you have a carbs in your breakfast.
I don't. But then I don't have many carbs all day. But you are correct about carbs triggering fat storage in many people. Obesity started rising when bureaucrats first published the food pyramid and telling people to eat less meat and eat more grains.
But most in the establishment "nutrition/diet" profession pretend that the carb / fat storage link doesn't exist. Slowly this is starting to change.0 -
No single approach, formula, or plan for weight loss can work perfectly for every person. We all need to do what works for us, not for others.
I believe that there is nothing wrong with sharing of what works. I posted what worked for me. Eating breakfast the way I described helped me lose weight without exercise and without feeling hungry.
The method that I share has helped me lose weight fast. This method grew out of my experience, my struggle with my weight and my frustration with the previous lack of success.
My post was not about just “eating breakfast” only. It was supposed to be about specific food that I eat for breakfast that made me successful. And of course there in no “a lot of protein” in the way I eat. I stated:”1 slice of 99% fat free turkey breast”.
I could have phrased the post title a bit different. I probably would be better understood if I used “for me it is very important to eat breakfast” instead of “must eat breakfast”.
It might be BS or inflammatory nonsense to some, who explicitly stated so here. But for others, especially for those who tried almost everything and nothing seems to have worked, it may be an option worth trying.
And yes. 91 pounds gone, in what appears to have been a relatively “easy” way, with no hunger and no exercise.
Breakfast is fine, and if it helps you hit your cals and macros then it is working. For some, they cannot eat early in the morning, yet still do a great job losing.0 -

So, respectfully, you are not aware that protein also significantly spike insulin?
OP, you said "you must". Giving advice as gospel from your personal experience is BS. Eating Breakfast is good for some, not for others. All preference. No metabolic or any other kind of advantage with the exception of compliance if that is what you prefer.0 -
Wrong. Just wrong.0
-
So, respectfully, you are not aware that protein also significantly spike insulin?
depends on the quantities.
Yes if you slam large amounts of whey. Or eat a dozen eggs.
But if you're eating a small meal in the mornings like a couple of eggs with bacon, you aren't gonna see a huge rise in insulin.....0 -

I'm afraid I've lost 6lbs by eating breakfast. Well in my case drinking mine.
I have a protein shake every morning to kick start my metabolism.
I can't face the thought of having to eat in the morning.
I've lost my 6lbs in just over a month.
It's caused me to stop craving for sugary junk at 11am.
I don't think eating breakfast is the be all and end all but it does make a difference on the metabolism.
sorry, but eating breakfast at any certain time does not change your metabolism. I usually eat my first meal at 1 or 2pm just because i am really not all that hungry until then.0 -
You must eat breakfast if you want to lose weight, and make sure it includes lean protein. Eating lean protein at breakfast is one of the most important things you can do to fell less hungry.
Even if you don’t feel hungry in the morning, eat breakfast anyway. It may be a challenge, but this is something you can do. Breakfast will help you prevent hunger later on. It will reduce your appetite and cravings and help you stick with your eating plan all day long.
I start my day off with good breakfast. For me it means non-starchy vegetable, fresh low-sugar fruit, lean protein, whole grain bread, and healthy fats (I take Omega 3 supplement).
This is my average day, but I generally eat the same things from day to day:
blueberries, blackberries, or apple,
1 slice of dry, 100% whole-grain toasted bread with
1 slice of 99% fat free turkey breast,
1 fresh tomato hot tea (no milk, no sugar).
As you can see it is not a typical "breakfast foods". The protein consumption, when eaten as part of the daily first meal reduces my appetite throughout the day. I also believe that it jump-starts my metabolism and sets my body in the optimal fat-burning state.
Eating like this was initially a little challenging, but I got used to it. It has become a part of my eating strategy that caused me to lose 91 pounds without feeling hungry.
I eat breakfast every day
Guess I'm going to have to gain the 40+ pounds I lost and start over again :grumble:0 -
If I wake up hungry I eat breakfast. If I'm not hungry, I don't. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to weight loss and healthy living.0

Not nessesarily true. See the attached links. http://weightology.net/weightologyweekly/?page_id=319

Insulin spike from protein in normal doses is pretty comparable to insulin spike from carbs.0 -
so you're telling me the 35 pounds i've lost while skipping breakfast but getting my daily caloric intake is fake? oh my god.0
-
I usually eat two breakfasts, does that mean I lose twice as much weight?0

Meal timing is crucial to health. You may lose weight when not eating breakfast, but your brain suffers and so do your organs. Look at the word: "Break - fast". In other words, you have not provided nourishment to your body for an average of 8-10 hours. To go even longer without food, especially once you are out of bed and active, is punishing to your body. The body will go into starvation mode and begin to break down muscle rather than fat, so it's more harmful than eating just about anything.0
-
I eat when I'm hungry. Sometimes this includes breakfast but very rare.0
-
I disagree. To each his own. I personally eat breakfast daily because I'm always hungry in the morning. I say if you're not hungry you don't have to eat.0
-
I'm disappointed that you are proud of losing 91 lbs. with no exercise. Unfortunately, without exercise you are losing muscle as well as fat, and if you relax your diet, you will regain weight faster, and gain unhealthy fat instead of muscle. Yes, weight loss is wonderful and good for you, but avoiding exercise in the long run will be detrimental.0

I eat a hard-boiled egg and a piece of fruit every morning and find it wards off hunger pangs. Not sure if I beleive this leads to greater weight loss but certainly helps me avoid snacking before lunch. Eating breakfast suits my lifestyle but I do know plenty of folks who have lost a significant amount of weight by skipping it and adding snacks throughout the day. Bottomline: to each their own! Go with what works best for you!0

Not nessesarily true. See the attached links.
Insulin spike from protein in normal doses is pretty comparable to insulin spike from carbs.
"75 grams of protein and 75 grams of carbohydrate" in the first study.
"11 grams of carbohydrate, and 51 grams of protein"
Not quite the "normal" dose if you're eating a small protein/fat meal later in the morning. Plus the studies included carbs with protein......granted they used varying amounts and still saw a rise in insulin, you have to account for the fact that 75 grams of carbs and 75 grams of protein is a ****ton of food to be eating early in the morning.
A small meal in the morning would be 2-3 eggs and a couple strips of bacon........0 -
No. You don't.
Thanks for the long boring speech about what works for you, but it doesn't mean it suits everyone0 -

This is so wrong, I don't even know where to begin.
The only thing I will point out is that it takes days, if not more, for the body to enact the famine response you are calling "starvation mode", which happens very gradually.0 -

My apologies for mis-interpreting... Like bcattoes, I stopped reading after the first few lines, so I only got as far as needing to include lean protein!
I don't disagree that your experience might be helpful to some, but the broad mandate, "you MUST", tends to ruffle feathers since there's no cookie cutter recipe for weight loss.
Your rephrasing is much better! :flowerforyou:0 -
I eat breakfast every day
So do I.... because I cant take my meds on an empty stomach.
Having said that, however, I get physically hungry if I don't eat a morning meal...I get hunger pain and nausea. So I eat breakfast because if my body says EAT, I eat.0 -
I hate breakfast.0

This post couldn't be further from the truth.
Skipping breakfast actually leads to optimal hormone levels. About 2 hours after waking, GH levels will peak if you haven't eaten.
Eating breakfast spikes your insulin and puts your body in fat storing mode for the day..........
This is also complete BS. As everyone has just stated, its about calories in VS calories out. However, I'm a huge advocate of eating breakfast, not because I believe it spikes metabolism, but because I believe it sets the tone for my entire day of eating. If I eat a ****ty breakfast or skip it completely, my body will either crave more crappy foods or will push me toward a dense calorie source for energy & satiation while looking for nutrients.
For this reason, I think its important for people who are trying to lose weight to eat breakfast. It is a great way to develop a healthy mindset & eating schedule...and when you consider the fact that there are plenty of studies to back up that naturally thin people eat breakfast, then why deprive yourself of something small in the morning upon wakening, or if you're like me, something substantial? I stop eating a few hours before bed so I do be starving when I wake up.
And I've lost over 50lbs, nearly at goal.0 -

this doesn't happen...........
the body is able to function fine without breakfast. I can provide the link to a study where they withheld breakfast from 1 group of kids and they actually performed better in school than the group that had breakfast.
It doesn't go into "starvation mode". Pick up a book before you tell people things like that.0 -
