Protein shakes are dangerous because people automatically assume they are healthy, but most of the pre-made ones have a bunch of other crap added in. It's a matter of personal preference really. I like to eat meat and prefer not to chug down whey powder, so that's how I get my protein. Just make sure the protein powder you use is from a good source and that it fits within your calories.0

It's ok if you go over 200 grams of protein if you get it from bacon. Bacon contains enough awesome to offset any other issues.
You contain a ton of awesome0 -
I'm still wondering why the hell anyone would go to John Tesh for diet advice.
Kenny G or Zamfir would be my top picks.0 -

I was half-heartedly reading this thread, but your profile picture cracked me up. I may need to steal that one. Thanks for the wake up!0 -

I'd deny it, but that would be false modesty. :-)0 -
I've read everyone’s reply's saying that the information is not true or bunk. BUT I have to disagree . . . . I have never in my life had kidney issues and went into acute renal failure because of to much protein in my system. My doctor was not surprised because this happens to athletes often especially when they are trying to push themselves to hard. The best thing for anyone to do is consult your doctor. Thank God that there was no permanent damage but my doctor told me that protein shakes are not the fix for losing weight or getting healthy especially if you are using them to replace meals.0

So...you have to watch your carbs, your fat, and your protein.
There is nothing left. (:p jk)
I have a lot of protein in my diet and it seems to be really helping me. True you can't have five protein shakes a day...(You won't be moving anything out (Sorry TMI))
But you shouldn't want to to begin with. I have one a day after my workout to help my body rebuild.
Everything in moderation is my best advice.
Don't try to eat a whole tub in a week and I think you will be fine.
Course this is just my opinion.0 -
Thats the great thing about being an omnivore you can eat any combination of macros and a healthy body will handle it appropriately.0

I don't think anyone should automatically discount John Tesh. I get information from all kinds of sources and usually the information he provides is quite interesting and seems accurate enough. Often he does not quote his sources though. I mainly like his survey information. Of course survey can always be skewed to the results you want to find. I consider John Tesh.
All media has bias. Neither CNN or Fox News get it right and how they report the stories and what they report on creates bias.0 -
John Tesh? Would would listen to him anyway? He's just some washed-up, talent less musician.

Is it better to drink a protein shake before or after a workout? Right now I prefer after and I've heard some do both.0

this article says right after a workout. makes sense.

I always have a protein shake right after I'm finished working out, I don't know the complete idea behind it, but I know it does indeed keep my appetite full just enough for a late dinner, and of course if I don't have one I don't meet my daily quota of protein, so It's a double win for me. This guy isn't convincing me.0

I think it boils down to another article to put down dietary supplements.
People laugh when I say it, but I would not be surprised if the next fad diet will be a "low protein" diet designed specifically for the cubicle employees and otherwise sedentary. :smokin:0
