How much did you have to lose before you went down a dress size? ?

Starting at 5'8" 170, every 5 was a pant size. As far as dress sizes go, maybe its similar?1

for me it was 7-8 lbs and i dropped a size.0

I had a lot of butt and belly so it took a good 10lbs per size. As I got closer to goal that changed to 5-7lbs.1

Ive lost 18lbs so far and not changed in size,
My jeans don't even feel loose let alone needing a size smaller.6 -

I am 5'8" , starting weight 174, and I had a very similar experience - after the first 15 pounds, I dropped to a 12, then about the next 20 pounds dropped me to a 10, then about 5 dropped me to an 8... i hover between and 8 and a 6 size jeans. As I am maintaining my weight and exercising / staying active / moving more, everything seems roomier, but not "baggy".
Dresses are a totally different story. I have size 6,8, and 10. None are baggy, all are fitted, so who knows. I may be a dress size 10 and all jeans are now "vanity" sized. ebony___ it may just be the style of jeans you wear have more stretch or "easy fit" than other styles. If they are easier to zip up, take it as a NSV!2 -
I was told that it equates to 10lbs is a dress size BUT from personal experience (having lost 30lbs and only 1 dress size) it all depends on where you carry your weight and subsequently where you lose it from..
I'm hoping that when I'm 20lbs lighter at the end of the year I'll be in a size 161 -

I have always heard 10 pounds lost brings you down 1 clothing size. However, if you are "plus sized" you have to loose more weight to drop a size. I think some of it depends on how your weight is distributed, as well.0

It's definitely a lot more weight between sizes in the plus size world. I've lost 20 and my pants are barely looser in the waist, I'm guessing I won't get into a smaller size for another 20 at least. I don't expect anyone will notice I'm losing weight until I hit 50 off3

I've lost 25 lbs and dropped two dress sizes.
this time last year I was about 195 and a size 12
I'm about 170 now and wore a size 8 dress last week! (and in my current profile picture )
edit: if you want to lose inches stop thinking about the number on the scale and start lifting weights.
strength training will help to build muscle, burn more fat which will then take up less space and your clothes will fit better.1 -

I'm 5'5. I started as a size 18/20 and am now comfortably 16 or 16/18 depending on the brand. (uk sizes) and I've lost 46lbs so far. It's only recently I've been getting more 16s than 18s so I'd say I'd dropped a size at around 30/40lbs lost?2

it really depends on where you start. It took about 25 lbs per size from above a 20 US sizes. Then about 15lbs from 20-18 and another 15lbs for me to get into a 16. The smaller my size gets, the less weight I have to drop to get into a smaller one0

For me, I started at 247 and was a size 20. Once I got down to about 225-230 I was in an 18 comfortably, and once I got to 210 I was in a 16 comfortably.... I am now 199, and my 16s are still fitting, but at the end of the day are really loose... I think once I get to 185/190 I will be squeezing into a 14... So for me, I average about every 15-20 pounds.... It's somewhat frustrating, but I have been told as I get smaller I will drop sizes with less pounds lost1

I've lost almost 50lb, and so far only gone down 1 dress size. It seemed that I was losing weight and not inches.
That combined with the bloating from a suspected gluten allergy, I would have thought I'd gone down two instead.2 -

Wow it’s so interesting to see how it differs for everyone I’ve lost 18lbs and am yet to drop a dress size. I’m finding it quite disheartening to be honest but in the nicest possible way I’m glad to see it’s not just me4

I already have some jeans that are a size smaller but I always have, even on my high weight of 230, fit into a 14 of some styles. Right now I am 213 and still in the same size, from experience it took till 180 for my jeans to be too big at that point once I was on vacation and had to buy new pants because they were falling off me, haha.2

Don’t feel discouraged, you might of lost the weight in other places like your thighs and arms and water weight so don’t stress if you haven’t went down, just keep working at it and you’ll get there. Went from a size 12 to a size 5. In bridal dresses (which are smaller than normal dresses) I’m in a size 8 currently. I’m 124 pounds and started at 158!1 -
I'm 5'1" so it tends to be more drastic for me even if I don't lose a lot. Dropping about 20 pounds took me from a size 12 to a size 6. I'm 154 currently and a size 10 but my upper body is more like a size 8 since I lose weight there first.0

I'm in the lost weight but still wearing the same size boat although my jeans are loser in the butt/thigh area if I try to wear a size down my stomach still rebels0

I have a weird body shape since I store all my fat in my hip and thighs and I'm slim up top. I'm short at 5'2". Unfortunately I lose weight from my top first and last from my butt/hips/things. At 175-180lb I wore size medium shirts and very stretchy small tops. I would say I was a size 6/8 for tops with a 30 inch waist and 8/10 for dress depending on the material and the style. My hips at 48 inches I could wear stretchy size 12/13 pants. When I lost 25 pounds I dropped to size 4-6 in tops and 10/12 in pants depending on the material. I've lost 36 pounds and currently wear size 2/4 for tops and 8/10 for pants. im curious what my size will be when I reach 130. I hope my body works with me and fat comes off my hips.1

I lost 30lbs and same dress size. Though I feel like clothes fit me more comfortably, but I reckon it'll be 40-50lbs before I drop a size and then less after that.1

I am still wearing the same jeans today that I was at 40lbs higher, but I do wear a belt with them and they are a little loose, I am maybe 1-1.5 size smaller on the bottom depending on the cut of the clothes but have wide set hips so not a lot I can do about that, about 3 sizes smaller on top.
Since where we lose fat from is pretty much genetics and we all have different builds, you probably aren't going to get a definitive answer.0 -
I’m 5’4.5, I dropped 30lbs before (to 120lb) and only went down one UK dress size! I was probably only a few pounds away from dropping another size though.0

I once read somewhere that the first 10-15 lbs you lose will help you fit into your current clothes more comfortably, because a lot of us wear clothes that might be too small. I started at 240ish and was wearing a size 20 and XL clothing. I am now at 217 and I think I can comfortably squeeze into an 18 and my XL tops are pretty baggy. We'll see how it goes from here, lol1

I agree that it depends where you're starting from. Plus size clothes are made roomier so you can wear them in a bigger weight range. I've lost 8 lbs and my size 16/XL clothes still fit but they fit much better. If memory serves I'll have to lose about 10 lbs before I can get into my size 14 clothes. I carry most of my weigh in my waist, belly, hips, and love handles and I refuse to have a muffin top so I buy my clothes to fit that area best. Also, IIRC, once I lose that next 10 lbs and my body is more proportioned I will drop sizes with a more reasonable loss - about 10-12lbs per size.
It's hard to not be impatient, isn't it?0
