Okay I finally purchased a box of organic Quinoa and need some recipes. I have been told to make sure I cook it properly and that it is really good for me so I've taken the first step. Thanks in advance for any help!

Boil 2 cups of water for every cup of quinoa.
When water is boiling put in quinoa

    Put on low

    Wait for deliciousness.
I've been throwing all sorts of stuff in it.
LOVE it with some baba ghanoush.

Search on Pinterest. I love cooking with quinoa and have found all of my recipes there! Some I love so much I tend to make them over and over and over. Make sure you buy the pre-washed quinoa. It can be a pain in the butt to rinse it otherwise. Good luck!

Use it as you would with couscous and rice. With a salad or an accompaniment to meal rather than potatoes. It can taste a little bland so it is a good idea to cook it in a stock rather than just water and season it well. you can add spices and vegetables, like roast vegetables. Experiment and find what you like best.

    Enjoy

I just discovered Quinoa. My first try on it cooking in water, it was blah. I saw a comment here about cooking it in chicken broth. So I tried that, then added spicy fresh cut salsa after it was cooked. It is my husband and I's new favorite side. I keep craving it now! We have already had it as a side twice this week haha. Love it!

  • I seriously love Quinoa and it is amazingly healthy... This is my favourite recipe and I love having it for breakfast (make a few serves, keep in the fridge and heat up).

Honey Coconut Quinoa with Pomegranate (I use whatever fruit I have available - usually apples) http://edenkitchen.com/honey-coconut-quinoa-with-pomegranate/

The Savvy Vegetarian website has some good recipes. I like this one: http://www.savvyvegetarian.com/vegetarian-recipes/spanish-quinoa.php

Also, I just kind of open the fridge and start throwing stuff in. I've done diced roasted eggplant, peppers, and asparagus along with some pesto; mixing it up with goat cheese and chicken; adding it to a wrap I was making. It really works with just about anything!

I use it just like I would oatmeal or rice. I cook a big batch and then separate it out for the week.

I found that if I cook the dry quinoa with a tablespoon of vegetable/canola oil (or the smart stuff) for a few minutes until lightly toasted, then I add in the water, it brings out a nuttier flavor. Then I just use it like rice by piling on sauteed vegetables.

    About This Recipe

"I came across this recipe in a book called Quinoa 365: The Everyday Superfood, and it was a hit at a family BBQ, using the original cheese; Bocconcini. Bummed out that I didn't take the leftovers home for lunches, I made it again, this time using Herb & Garlic crumbled feta that I had in the fridge - holy bananas, feta took this salad to rock star status! I have two parrots, Merlin and Arwen (featured in some of my pics), and I had to put out two treat dishes for them, as neither would let the other near it! Try it with any good, tasty, cheese, and you'll love it - and if you don't do cheese, marinated tofu would be stellar as well. Use your imagination! One thing I can say is that when I made the salad with Bocconcini, maybe it was because I didn't marinate it, I served it immediately, but somehow, that very mild cheese just didn't do the dish justice. I sure hope you enjoy this as much as we did!"
    Ingredients

    Quinoa
3/4 cup quinoa ( white, red, black, or a combination)
    1 1/2 cups water
    Dressing
    3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard or 1 tablespoon coarse grain mustard
2 tablespoons fresh oregano, finely chopped or 2 teaspoons dried oregano

Page 2 of 3Feta & Oregano Quinoa Salad (cont.)
    Ingredients

    1 teaspoon fresh garlic, minced
    salt, to taste
    pepper, freshly ground, to taste
    Salad
    1 cup zucchini, diced
    1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
    1/2 cup red onions, diced
1/2 cup baby green peas, frozen
1 cup red bell peppers, diced
1 cup yellow bell peppers, diced
1 cup feta cheese, Herb & Garlic, crumbled or 1 cup bocconcini, Pearl or 1 cup bocconcini, Mini, halved

    Directions

Rinse and strain the quinoa to remove the bitter coating. Most quinoa today are pre-rinsed, so check the package, but even so, I prefer to give it one more rinse. Bring the quinoa and water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Cover, reduce to a simmer, and cook for 10 minutes. Turn the heat off and leave the covered saucepan on the burner for another 4 minutes. Remove the lid and fluff the cooked quinoa with a fork. Set aside to cool.
Whisk the vinegar, olive oil, mustard, oregano, garlic, salt, and pepper together in a small bowl.
Combine the salad ingredients in a large bowl; pour the dressing over the vegetables and thoroughly mix. Add the quinoa, and mix until evenly combined.
Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 3 days.

I love to mix red and white quinoa. I cook it in water then add olive oil, garbanzo beans, halved cherry tomatoes, cilantro or parley, lime juice and salt. It is good cold and warm. I eat it with grilled chicken breast or just by itself. LOVE IT!

I don’t know the recipe, but an upscale restaurant chain here in the Houston area called America’s serves quinoa with their swordfish dish. The waiter said it had cream cheese, cheese, and some other ingredients. It was delicious compared to when I tried to cook it plain, but I have yet to experiment to try to reproduce it. If anyone else has a recipe similar to this, message me please! (Since we can’t subscribe to threads for responses here)

When I googled quinoa recipes, I found several. Some of the ones listed above I will be trying as well.
