      That's a pretty big reason :P But his companions are his companions because they love the danger.
      And most of them point out that, for what the danger provides, it is so, so worth it. I would happen to share that opinion. On top of that, Doctor #10 is the first one to go out of his way to save all of his companions from a horrible fate. He even gives up Rose to his double, quite on purpose, because he knows his double can stay with her as a human, and he can't.
