I've got a rare blood type so donate whenever I'm called up - last gave my armful on Monday. Staying hydrated beforehand is the main thing, to keep your blood pressure normal and make the donation process quicker and easier. Have whatever snack and drink you're offered afterwards then eat normally. 600 calories is a frequently quoted number but no need to eat it all back on the day you donate.
Don't do what I did on Monday and attempt to resanguinate with a glass of red wine with dinner - I got up too quickly afterwards and keeled over :blushing:0
